Friday Book Club: The Perfect Location, by Kate Forster
The Perfect Location follows 3 Hollywood actresses – big screen veteran Rose Nightingale, sex symbol Sapphira De Mont, and sweet, up-and-comer Calypso Gable. When they’re thrown together on a movie set in the glamorous Italian hills, each woman is forced to deal with a turbulent past and a dark secret.
The chapters flip between the characters, focusing first on Rose, then Sapphira, then Calypso, and so on. It gave the book a nice flow and pace, making it easy to dip in and out of.
I do, however, have some complaints. I found the constant references to designer labels very dull. There were lengthy, in-depth descriptions every time someone in the novel got dressed, and the continuous name-dropping was irritating.
The ending, unfortunately, also ruined the whole book for me. It was a happy-ever-after affair that came to a close with several weddings. The whole thing felt rushed and unrealistic, which was a shame, as there were some dark, gritty bits in the story that both impressed and surprised me.
Putting the ending and the name-dropping to one side, I did enjoy reading most of it. It’s a light, easy-to-digest book that needs zero concentration. If you’re looking for something to entertain you in between Cosmopolitans and tanning on holiday (like I was), it’s perfect. But War and Peace, this certainly is not.
