Cyprus’ Beaches Best In Med

Move over Spain. Step aside Turkey. Stand back Greece. When it comes to the best beaches in Europe, the bragging rights belong to Cyprus.

That’s according to this year’s Bathing Water Report, produced by the European Environment Agency and the European Commission. More than 21,000 designated bathing waters across Europe were put to the test, and every single one of Cyprus’ swimming spots passed with flying colours. In fact, Aphrodite’s Isle was the only destination on the continent to score full marks for its water quality. It means wherever you decide to lay your towel – Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa and Fig Tree Bay in Protaras are both popular with Brits – you know you’re getting nothing less than the best.

Croatia clinched the runner-up spot, with 97.3% of its bathing waters meeting the survey’s strict guidelines. And the bronze medal went to Malta, which scored a respectable 95.4%.
