Ah, New Year’s Eve. The promise of a new beginning and the celebration of another year gone. For us mere mortals, the night usually plays out with bad party food and drunken slurring of Auld Lang Syne. But that’s not the case when it comes to the celebs. Whether it’s posh nightclubs, spectacular performances or free-flowing Champagne, this lot sure know how to see the New Year in with style. We’ve looked back at some of the biggest A-list bashes from the last couple of years. Feast your eyes on this lot, then decide how you’re going to blag your way in this year…

The Cosmopolitan Hotel Las VegasJay Z, The Cosmopolitan Hotel – Las Vegas

Never one to do things quietly, the King of Rap hosted the best NYE bash of 2010 for the opening of the $3.9 billion Cosmopolitan Hotel in Sin City. The entertainment industry’s biggest stars were out in force, with Beyonce, Chris Martin and Jay Z himself providing the evening entertainment. The star-studded guest list included the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and 50 Cent, all of whom spent the evening guzzling Armand de Brignac Champagne in the hotel’s Marquee nightclub. The top-notch bubbly costs around $300 a bottle.

Miami BeachNicki Minaj, Mansion – Miami Beach

2010 was definitely the year for Nicki Minaj, who burst onto the hip-hop scene with her massive debut album, Pink Friday. To celebrate the end of a fabulous 2010 and welcome 2011 in style, the singer decided to throw an ‘All Pink Everything’ themed soiree at Miami Beach’s hip Mansion nightclub. Lucky guests – or at least, guests who managed to cough up the $200 entry fee – were treated to Harajuku Barbie dancers, an all-pink interior and a midnight light show, not to mention a free bar until the countdown and a live performance from Miss Minaj herself.

Fontainebleau Hotel Miami BeachLady Gaga, Fontainebleau Hotel – Miami Beach

The young Hollywood set welcomed in 2010 with Lady Gaga at a gig in Miami Beach’s Fontainebleau Hotel. The eccentric singer donned her usual crazy attire while performing four of her hits to young stars like Hayden Panettiere and Gossip Girl’s Chase Crawford, and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. Afterwards, the guests munched on Domino’s pizza (who knew?!) at the hotel’s LIV nightclub, before heading back to Gaga’s penthouse to party into the small hours. The room frequented by the Queen of Quirk reportedly costs $15,000 a night.

TAO Las VegasKim Kardashian, TAO – Las Vegas

While no one – not even Kim herself – seems to be particularly sure what she is famous for, there’s no denying KK draws a crowd. The stylish socialite threw a 2010 NYE bash at The Venetian hotel in its 42,000-square-foot Asian-themed TAO nightclub. A cool $200 earned fans a ‘Kim Kardashian Party Pass’, which gave them entry to the venue, an open bar, hors d’oeuvres until 11pm, and access to LAVO nightclub for the after-party. She’s hosting this year, too, and the tickets start at $150. To get yours, visit: http://www.taolasvegas.com/tao.html
