Food and drink
Typically Costa Rican meals are often based around the classic rice and beans, but a variety of dishes are available. Try spicy coconut milk stews, garlic potatoes and tasty fried chicken. Fresh exotic fruit smoothies are delicious, and locally produced coffee is very popular. Adventurous drinkers can try the potent national drink 'guaro', a clear alcoholic drink derived from sugar cane.
