It's safer to carry most of your holiday money using a Travel Money Card or in travellers' cheques.
Travel Money Card is a prepaid MasterCard® and is the latest way to take your spending money abroad. There are no commission charges or purchase fees when you buy or reload your card. Cards can be pre-loaded with your spending money and then used at millions of Retailers and ATMs worldwide where you see the MasterCard® Acceptance Mark giving you complete flexibility.
Travellers cheques can be replaced quickly and easily if lost or stolen – as long as you have a record of the cheque numbers. A small amount of foreign money can be very useful when you arrive abroad, as is some sterling when you return to the UK. Please note that unfortunately Scottish bank notes occasionally cause confusion outside UK – should you wish to take any sterling abroad, it's probably best to take English notes. Personal cheques usually cannot be used overseas unless as an equipment deposit.
MasterCard, Visa and other major credit cards are widely accepted abroad and can often be used in automated cash dispensers with your PIN number. Most European countries also accept Cirrus and Maestro debit cards.

Please note that as this is a prepaid card balance, checking is not available from ATM machines.
Unfortunately the ATM networks do not support balance checking of a prepaid card, however you can check your balance by accessing My Account, by calling Customer Services on +44(0)203 130 0153, via SMS text message or in-store at a First Choice or Thomson shop.
To utilise the SMS balance enquiry function you must first register your card and personal information online. Once you have done this, go to the Change details section and enter the mobile phone number that you intend to use.

You have a few options. Your card is a fully branded MasterCard® therefore any remaining funds can be spent in any merchant or withdrawn from any UK ATM machine that displays the MasterCard® Acceptance Mark.
Alternatively, visit your local First Choice or Thomson store, who will purchase back any remaining balance. Please note that by doing this your card will be cancelled.
Due the unique way our Travel Money Card has been developed simply contact someone in the UK and provide them with the 10 digit serial number printed on the back of the card. They then visit any First Choice or Thomson bureaux, provide the number and how much is to be loaded and your new funds will be instantly available.
