Not sure what the bad reviews are all about?
We have just spent a lovely week at the Pestana Delfin. Yes it's busy but it is summer. Yes most guests are Portuguese but as an English family I like that as the food is not all "English" Yes it's a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner but there is so much to choose from it matters not. Lunchtime can get very busy for some reason so try to avoid 1-2 for lunch. There are always plenty of sunbeds and as there are very few Germans they don't get reserved early. Towels are provided by the hotel so save some suitcase space and leave yours at home. The pool is very cold and saltwater. Why I don't know in this day and age? The rooms are basic and need updating but who goes on holiday to sit in their room? Most English seem to be put on the 16th floor which gives excellent views of the beach. Beach is a very short walk away which is a massive plus. The staff at reception and buffet are excellent. The barman seem to be very grumpy for some reason. I would definitely go back. Any questions please ask More
A little bit disappointed...
My family and I have been staying in Alvor at either the pestana hotel dom Joao or the Delfim for the last 19 years. We love Alvor and pestana but felt a bit let down this time. The hotel appeared to be a bit rundown and the cleanliness wasn't up to scratch as it has been in previous years. The hotel seemed extremely busy which caused queues at meal times which wasn't a pleasant experience either. We just felt the usual warm and friendly atmosphere has been lost and the staff didn't seem to be as personal or friendly as before. However, we were really impressed with the evening musicians. Especially Paulo the guitarist and coffee & strings. We was well looked after by Mitelo the barman. It was also great to see the daytime entertainment team member Paulo bringing some fun and laughter with the aqua aerobics.More
