Disappointing return stay!
We stayed at the Arinara last year, same time last week Jan/beginning Feb and had such a lovely time we decided to return again. It is difficult to know where to start because the hotel has changed so much in a year: 1. This year the hotel has an independent part called The Lux which is not part of the hotel and is separate with separate bar, restaurant (all payable) and not part of the all inclusive, but you have to go through The Lux to get to the beach. Also last year as part of the all inclusive you could have your al la carte meal on beach. There are NO facilities for all inclusive guests on the beach. No sun beds unless you pay and no comfortable seating in the evening as there was last year unless you purchase drinks from The Lux bar! Also at least twice weekly the main walk way to the beach is closed because of special evenings at The Lux. To summarise: 1. If you want a fully all inclusive beach hotel this hotel may not be for you 2. If you are looking for good service - waiter and bar staff - this hotel may not be for you. Poorly trained staff, difficulties with understanding simple bar requests, insufficient staff on duty in both restaurant and the only bar (small) open in evening 3. If you are looking for good quality hot and varied food this hotel may not be for you unless you like to eat when the restaurant opens at 6pm! We usually ate around 7.30/8pm and found food not replenished, cold or had run out. On one evening they also ran out of Rose wine! 4. If you are hoping for a nice dinner at the al la carte restaurant (our package included 1 dinner each week) this hotel may not be for you. The service was very poor. The food was cold so was sent back. The orders were wrong and when we returned the following evening as compensation for the previous evening, again the food orders were wrong. This did not just happen to us but to other guests as well 5. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday this holiday may not be for you. We were surprised at the number of children on holiday in mid January. Very few children last year but this year approx. 90% of hotel and beach were young families. I know the Arinara is a family hotel but we were very surprised at the increase of approx. 90% in the number of children at this time of the year compared to last year 6. If you like to relax with a drink in the evening near the beach this hotel may not be for you. There is 1 small bar open in the evening with approx. 5-6 tables with 4 chairs so it can seat 24 guests only in the evening and that is if it doesn't rain, because there is no indoor/covered area when it rains, as there was last year 7. If you don't mind waiting up to 30 mins for a drink, this hotel could be for you. Bar staff slow but then it is asking a lot of 1 bar person to manage all orders. Consequently guests were making double orders which then took even longer! One one evening the barman could not cope and so disappeared leaving no one to serve! On a more positive note we went with Thomson and the rep Tom Griffiths could not have done more for us. He was an excellent rep who had a very difficult time listening to guests complaints and trying to discuss and liaise with the hotel management ways to improve on the common themes of poor service, cold food, running out of food and drink but most of the issues outlined above were out of his control It was a very disappointing stay compared to last year. Would we recommend this hotel? No. Would we return to the hotel? NoMore
Booked very last minute with Tui, wanted somewhere hot, beach/pool just to relax and do absolutely nothing, very little choice so we ended up at the Arinara with a room with a dip pool. Glad there wasn't a lot of choice as the hotel was ideal for our needs. Check in was very efficient, cold drink and damp cloth upon arrival, no sooner had we drank up then we were on our way to our room. Room was big and spacious, very clean, bathroom was also decent size and clean, both areas were cleaned daily, towels and bedding were also done. Location of room was also ideal, overall no complaints at all about the room. Staff across all areas of the hotel were lovely, very friendly. There was a wide range of nationalities, from my point of view everyone was friendly and there were large groups of families but they were all respectful of the other holiday makers and none were boisterous or loud. The hotel is ideal for families, even though we are a middle aged couple we did comment that the hotel would be a great place for our grand daughter. Beach is lovely, going for a walk at the crack of dawn was fantastic, during the day it would get busy but vendors would not harass you to buy stuff, which was nice as some places put you of going out the resort because of the pushy traders. Did get a massage on the beach, very reasonable price, the massage was okay had better, just not the right atmosphere that you are just in the zone when someone shouts "massage" from one of the other tables to someone on the beach. Food and drink, we were on A/I, like a lot of places nowadays not everything is A/I. research first and find out as the poor rep for TUI was bombarded with complaints about it. Reading a few reviews before we went I did pick up on the fact that some things had to be paid for. The food did get a bit repetitive, but you could always get something to eat, we enjoyed eating out in the evening, it gave us a chance to try some places round about so it wasn't really an issue with us, the breakfasts were very good though. people complain about birds and flies it is the tropics so we ate indoors, so they weren't a problem, as for flies on the food a lot of the food was covered but the amount of people that just walked along, lifted the lid, left it up and moved on only to do the same with the next lid, so really the hotel can try to take as many precautions possible with the food, they cant be held accountable for the idiot that is to lazy to put a lid back down. Drink, wasn't impressed with the local drink, first hotel I have been to and not liked it. There was entertainment on, a couple of theme nights, and 2 female singers on every night, they were okay, but we didn't go for the entertainment so as I didn't sit and listen to them all night it would be unfair to comment. Used the laundry service, it is not expensive and the stuff was usually back the next day. There was only 1 really annoying thing with the hotel and that was the ALL INCLUSIVE. If we wanted anything not included in the A/I it was a battle every time to get it, even to the extent of waving money at them to let them know that I already knew it wasn't included, Malibu I wanted to drink but I couldn't have one because it wasn't included, yet they were using the Malibu in the pina colada that was free on A/I, so some nights it was easier to go out the hotel for a drink. I would recommend this hotel, would I go back probably not, only because if in Thailand again it would be to a different part, but I rarely go back to a country again, to many places I want to see.More
Holiday in Paradise
Hotel is in a lovely location on the beach. Rooms spacious well equipped with Wifi, fridge, safe hairdryer and TV. Pay a bit extra and get a pool view. The pools are beautiful clean, warm and not out of your depth deep. There is a nice kidâs pool with slide and fountain. The usual reserving by towel seams to apply but there is always a free bed available. Daytime entertainments run by 2 great young men to include beach and pool volley ball darts, table tennis, pool and boules. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the vicinity we went to see the Lady Boys at Nok and Joes bar a 10 minute walk away. The food in the restaurant is very good and varied and some meals cooked for you while you wait. There are 2 main nights of entertainment other nights there is a quiz night and 2 young girl singers are on I think every night. The young Thai girls serving in the restaurants and reception are always smiling and so very pleasant. There is only one bar open in the evening which can get busy with orders coming from waiters in the restaurant so service can be a bit slow at peak times. The all inclusive is fine with only one drawback you have to pay for sun beds on the beach 300tbh about £7 as they are run by a 3rd party section of the Hotel next to the beach called Lux you do get a free drink but if you are all inclusive that doesn't matter . We hired a mini bus taxi from next door return trip with 2 other couples that took us to the Big Buddha and the Temples in Chalong bay about an hour away left at 9.00am back at 1.00pm cost 800tbh per couple about £19 a very interesting trip and such good value. We also did the elephant trip to Khoa Lak with Thompson booked with the very helpful rep Tom a full day about £78 each. Weather was lovely and hot and we had a great time.More
We like to stay in this hotel. Hello! The hotel is excellent! Breakfasts are good, to the sea 5 minutes walk, the rooms are clean and pleasant. The restaurants and bars near the hotel is not much, but enough. We took a rental motorbike and went to dinner at the other beaches. More
We stayed here for 14 nights during the mid point through January. First of all, I'd like to stress that if you are looking for a well run, family hotel in a quiet location the Arinara may suit your needs. We traveled as a 4, 3 adults and a child (3yrs). The pools are excellent but only for gentle paddling and relaxing, the hotel would benefit from a separate pool for a quieter experience. Don't worry about sunbeds, there are plenty available. The rooms are kept very clean and the housekeeping staff are excellent. However decor is dated and the overall finish of the rooms are what I would consider a 2 star quality. Many complain about the wifi. God knows why you want to sit on your smart phone whilst on holiday, saying this we found it suitable for quick jumps onto the net for reviews and planning places to eat. Regarding the food. We were all inclusive by Thomson. The food I found average and a little repetitive. But if I was going to give a tip aim for the freshly prepared food on the grilling area. Breakfasts are great. Staff; I would say excellent. Many spoke great English and they were always helpful and polite. Overall the Arinara is a 2/3 star property but with some investment it could be excellent. The facilities are clean and staff excellent. It just falls short of the luxuries you expect from hotels in Thailand. My negative experience and points now relate to the tour operator (Thomson) and are here for anyone when checking in the support was dreadful, a hello from the rep and then abandoned for the front of desk staff to assist. As there was no communication we were left standing around until an Arinara front of desk member took initiative and helped. No welcome drink or cold towel upon arrival which is generally a standard offering when checking in. Not good for my mother who was a newbie to Thailand and travelling abroad. More
