You’ll spend your days sipping cocktails at swim-up bars and sunbathing on the beach when you stay at the ClubHotel Riu Bambu.
Although the ClubHotel Riu Bambu is in a popular part of Punta Cana’s coast, it’s shrouded in 46,000 square metres of tropical gardens, so it feels pretty private.
There’s a beach right on the doorstep of this hotel. And not just any beach. The name of Arena Gorda translates as ‘fat sand’ and it’s a kilometre long.

Stayed three weeks in this hotel and didn't get bored at all. Super food catering for every taste from hot dogs to caviar. 4 other themed restaurants, all excellent. Three main pools, one very lively with games and music and one quiet pool with loads of sunbeds. The beach is fantastic and you can walk for miles. The sea is clear and clean. The room was a good size with 2 bottles of water every 2 days and the bed comfy. There is a shopping street within a few minutes walk. All in all a great hotel and location. I would definitely return.More

Went for a week as a family 11th April to celebrate 40th wedding anniversary. Was not told by First Choice that on the day we were leaving, the hotel was closing down for 3 months for a major refurbishment. Hotel itself was ok but obviously not as good as the Riu Palace Macao and Riu Palace Bavaro where we had stayed before. It seemed that they were trying to use up all the food before they closed down as we all found the choice of food not very good to say the least. My daughter was ill for 2 days with bad stomach and my wife and I were violently ill which started 1 day before we were due to leave. My illness lasted just over 2 weeks when we got home and visited hospital accident and emergency and doctors 3 times. Would not have booked this hotel if First Choice had informed us it was closing down for 3 months. We have all been to Punta Cana 4 times and never before had any food poisoning.More
Was just ok
We visited RIU Bambu from April 7-14 with our teenage kids and two other couples for a total of 12 of us, the check in went really well our keys and bands were waiting for us when we arrived. The room was ok bit of a walk to buffet and pool but that was ok, called for towels said they would send someone right up!! I'm still waiting. The buffet had lots of choices but it seemed like the same things every day that gets old quick. We ate at the steak house and the Italian and they were both really good. The pool was always busy but there were chairs available, the bar service was ok, you had to go get your own though no service around pool or around the entertainment at night. The beach is beautiful as was the ocean but that's not because of the Rui. This resort was closing a few days after we were there for renovations and I'm assuming so they can bring it up to the standards of the other 5 star Rui that are on the same grounds because this resort does not look or get the service of a 5 star resort. I would probably not return to this resort, we as a group made the most of it and had fun but it was not what we were expecting. We went to the Grand Bahia Principe in Nov and that property blew the Rui out of the water for service, rooms food and overall friendliness More
we loved it here ... (but ...)
Perhaps there are things about the Riu Bambu that make a rating of 5/5 a little generous, but we had such a wonderful time here that it seems churlish to look for flaws. We like Riu's ClubHotel formula very much. Low-rise properties with some attention to local flavour rather than characterless international luxurious uniformity. Punta Cana is a lovely place. The weather was lovely, most of the people were really lovely, and all this was accessible within our budget. We had been here nine years ago, and were a little nervous about repeating a wonderful experience, and even though there were some small disappointments, we hope very much that we will be able to go back at least once. Staff such as Jose in Technical Services, Celestino on the front desk, Ramon in the bar, Juana who looked after our room, Issa at breakfast time and all the staff in the Mexican restaurant - (they didn't all have name tags) - and "smoothie guy" were people made looking after us seem effortless and we will remember them with affection. It is impossible to name-check or even accurately remember names of everyone who contributed to our happy stay. but we are grateful to all of the cheerful, helpful people we met. I'd be wary of persuading any undecided reader that this is a real 5-star hotel experience, but we enjoyed our stay so very much that I am reluctant to make any criticisms. We enjoyed the charm and excitement of the tropics in spring for a price not much different than we'd pay for destinations close to home. Not opulence, but not to be missed, either.More
Visited during Easter weekend which was very crowded. Would not go during Easter again. This was also preceding the day the entire resort closed for major renovations. Overall friendly staff, decent food-not great, and gorgeous beach. This resort was a mid range resort so it lacked many amenities but I knew this when I booked. Overall good stay and would return at a quieter time. More
