The Melia Buenavista has snagged a whole trio of white-sand beaches. You won’t have to share them either, thanks to the away-from-it-all location.
The beach is the centre of attention at the adults-only Melia Buenavista. The property’s surrounded by sandy coves, so you’ll have no problem finding your own patch to stretch out on.
The diving is top-notch – don a mask and you can snorkel right off the beach. The highly-polished interiors mean looks is another thing this place has going for it.

We returned to the Buenavista in July 2017 our previous visit was October 2013. Check in was very quick and we were greeted with a "Welcome Back!" from our butler Gerardo. We had an oceanfront main floor room 2411 and it was great - sunrise near the breakfast restaurant, beach, and quiet pool. Our maid Lianney keep our room clean throughout our stay and night turn down service from Javier was excellent, he really goes out of his way to make your stay special. Beds are very comfortable, room AC works great, and who doesn't like showering outside! Beaches and snorkelling are amazing - the activity staff will take you out snorkelling and on a walk to the eagle's nest just ask them. The beach was HOT! Latorre greets you every morning, he cleans off your beach chair and calls the gardeners to get you a coconut when you wish. Andres at the beach bar does an amazing job especially in the heat even providing service right to your chair. Lester at the pool bar is such a nice guy and runs drinks to the quiet pool occasionally. They really need to get the bartenders help with delivering drinks it would improve the level of service greatly, you can sit at the quiet pool for hours and see no one. I recommend taking an insulated cup for your drinks. The food is top notch, especially for Cuba. Navegantes is the same menu every night but it has steak, lobster, octopus, chicken - lots of options to choose from. You will be very lucky to have Ana serve you she is very professional and speaks excellent english. Caribes the menu changes but is also very good - just have a look at the menu before you decide on a restaurant. Dinner service is SLOW we left before dessert on two occasions because it took too long - once again more staff would help. You can also go to the other Melia resorts on the island there is a shuttle every half hour, we tried the Japanese restuarant one night - it was just OK but a nice change. The pool bbq at lunch is a must try, great burgers hot dogs and pizzas. One of the best parts of the resort is the great sunsets every night at the beach. The staff serve wine, and Carlos plays saxophone, I would recommend planning dinner after sunset. There are mosquitoes so wear DEET. In the evening there is no disco or anything, it is a very quiet resort. The lobby bar has music every night. Staff try their best but its hard to keep up with everyone, Julio will chase you down if you order a drink and leave before they come. Alexander makes the best drinks he really cares about the drinks he creates. You can always order room service, and drinks to your room, if you have a problem I recommend talking to Dileen at the front desk she was a real help to us during our visit. It's a great resort to get away and relax, there are plenty of chairs at the pools and beach. Hope this info helps you plan your trip!More
Our most recent stay at the Melia Buenavista affirmed for us why we continue to value this property as our “go to” resort for a sun vacation. Over the past four years, we have stayed at the MBV twenty-five weeks. Rather than reiterate much of what I and other guests have commented on in earlier reviews, I will focus on what we believe is the most critical aspect of the Melia Buenavista experience: our perception that the management and staff of the hotel have successfully instituted a cultural norm of team designed to constantly improve the complete experience of guests: superior service to ALL clients has become a norm at the Melia Buenavista. Client service: how good can it be? At the Melia Buenavista, it is exceptional. How exceptional? The staff of this hotel have the unique ability to make EVERY guest feel as though they are the most important person on the resort. As a result, patrons quickly think of themselves as being special, as part of a “family:” a remarkable achievement considering that when full, the MBV has 200 + guests. How one should ask, has the staff accomplished such a level of professional, yet familial service? Superior training/education is a critical component of the answer to this question … and Cuba is noted for such. Just as important, I would suggest is the role of the strong management team currently in place at the Melia Buenavista. (both foreign and Cuban.) Angel (Miguel), Rafael, Lisandro, Miguel, Leidys, Niurka and Yamil make noticeable and frequent efforts to interact with guests in an attempt to ensure a seamless, positive experience for clients. This style of leadership is an exemplary and effective: Client testimonials to the level of service at the MBV, found in this website and others provide frequent evidence of this. On numerous occasions during our stay, I had the opportunity to engage in conversation with all members of the management team. One conversation in particular remains with me: I was complementing the jefe Angel (Miguel) on what a fine job all staff continue to do on behalf of guests and the hotel and how he deserved a great deal of credit for such. His response: “It's not me, its not any one person … its the “equipo” that is responsible.” In essence, this sums up why the Melia Buenavista provides clients with memorable experiences. The commitment of all staff to “equipo” and clients has allowed the property to elevate itself well above the norm of sun destinations. We remain grateful to have found this gem … and encourage others to discover it for themselves. Hope to meet new and old friends when we return in October.More
Simply the Best
We just returned from yet another excellent stay at Melia Buenavista, this was our 16th stay at the resort so yes we are fans, but fans for a reason. We have travelled multiple times to Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, the DR and Barbados, but Melia Buenavista remains our favourite by far. It has the best combination of all the things we love. First and foremost the staff are the best we've had at any resort, top to bottom, they all want you to be happy and enjoy your vacation. As mentioned in other reviews there are far too many to name them all, but our butlers Daymi and Joel are always great, they now know our routine and make sure everything is taken care of. The pool bar staff can't be beat and the guys at the grill are excellent. The same goes for the lobby bar staff and wait staff. Frankly that goes for every one from management to gardeners. The property has three great beaches, one to chill at, the middle one to do the same but with great snorkelling and the third to chill at, swim at or go for long walks (next resort about 30-35 minutes away). The rooms are great with everything you need including the much loved outdoor shower. People complain about the food in Cuba, we've never had a problem with the food here and this time they upped their game even higher with a new menu at Los Navigates. If you are wanting a quality place to go to for relaxing and enjoying this is the one, if you're wanting party party party, well it's not that type of place. The entertainment is always good and you can have a great time till whenever you wish as the lobby bar never closes. We meet lots of repeat customers who feel as we do, but many first timers express these feelings too.More
Look, the food isn't great and half the staff have a chip on their shoulder, but it's CUBA!! The country isn't for you if you want 5* service. In this context, this hotel is top notch. The rooms were amazing and they do some things very well. The 3 beaches were all nice. None of the beaches ever felt crowded or busy, it was great. Snorkeling from the main beach was very good. We took advantage of being able to eat at one of the other Melia hotels on the island one evening and came back feeling extremely happy we paid a little extra to stay at the Buenavista! They've managed to create a very peaceful and relaxing resort where nothing is too far from your room without the place ever feeling busy. Probably because there are no kids! They lay on classes and activities all day that were great if you fancied it one day. If we ever returned to Santa Maria we would stay here again, without a doubt.More
Always the best resort in Cuba
Have been there 12 times. First issue ever in 8 years, some people trying to get free stuff be complaining that some items were missing. We have never heard of anything so outrageous. Don't let a couple with overachieving daughters spoil the very best resort in all Cuba. Four times this year and back in October. Many new customers said they will be back. Go find out for yourself, small resort, adults only, extremely safe. Best pool barmans anywhere, Orestes, Osmani, Lester, beach bar Andéas. Any problems, the manager is there to help you. Just great people all around, Leidys, Daymi, and too many to mention. Faboulous cook Arley, BBQ cooks, Biti, Yosvany and Pedro. They make around 100+ pizzas at lunch time for a resort of 105 rooms. Paradise, just wish we could live there all year around. Happy, HappyMore
