Hotel Barcelo Fuerteventura Thalasso Spa

This beachside hotel comes with a duo of pools and restaurants, and it’s big on activities, too.

There are 2 lagoon pools and 2 restaurants – 1 does buffets, the other is a speciality grill. You’ve also got an A to Z of activities, while in the evening there’s entertainment in the theatre.

Busy hotel, clean, nice pools

Mixed feelings about this hotel, check in was very organised but busy, all the people on the coach were for this hotel! Reception staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is large but is well kept. Our room was on the ground floor, was of a good size and had the added benefit of a hydro tub outside. House keeping was good. Food and restaurant.... Good choices but repetitive, quality was of an ok standard. The restaurant was very noisy in the main area, could have done with more staff, when clearing the tables in between they wiped any crumbs etc onto the floor, not the best really. We went half board and therefore purchased wine in the evening but they had a rule you couldn't take it out of the restaurant to your room etc but had to keep it for the next night. When we said we were taking it we were told by a waitress " good luck with that" we did take it to our room! The pool bar served food and drinks and there was an all inclusive section, felt if you were half board there was something lacking in the service, eg when ordering tea it came in a cup, no teapot, and the bar staff slopped the milk in from a big jug, not pleasant. Entertainment..... A lot going on throughout the day and evening. Good entertainment for the children. Has a kids club, didn't use but looked good. Entertainment room needs a revamp, pool table has missing balls and is on a slope!! The pools are nice, shallow kids pool, heated pool and a very cold pool. Lots of sunbeds available. Please note.. Safe and pool towels are at an additional charge as is the spa and gym. I think the spa was €27 a day to use. The beach is sandy and very close. The surrounding area had some shops and cafés and had a market twice a week, however I didn't find it very inspiring. I can recommend a visit to Pierros music cafe though, just by the hotel. Good live evening entertainment and good priced drinks. The hotel is only 10 minutes from the airport so do expect aircraft noise. Would we return? As a couple no but perhaps if we took children and wanted a hotel based holiday.More

Good apart from the weather

We stayed for one week at right at the end of March arriving to very cool in settled weather. Apparently it was the coldest and wettest winter for many years which meant a rather cold early season. The majority of guests appear to be retired folk or couples with very young babies. Normally we travel during high season in the school holidays so this was quite a change for us. We stayed in room 2222 which appeared to be perfectly placed and was deluxe. We found the hotel staff pleasant although still stretched to clear tables quickly enough at breakfast and at dinner. The bar also seemed under some pressure during the evening entertainment program. That said everywhere was immaculately clean and when the sun did come out the pool area was much busier. Daniel on reception was extremely helpful on our last day as we were unable to get a late room check out so had to use the shared facilities which were oversubscribed. We found the food plentiful however rather repetitive which seems harsh to say when you would have to be a very picky eater if you could not find something from the hot or cold buffet. The only evening we did struggle was one of the themed nights which was just purely not to our taste. The snack bar nearest the pool was rather poor and the self service drinks again not really five star.I did approach the bar for soft drinks during the day but was directed back to the self service option the only service we did achieve were the lovely cappuccinos. We played mini golf when the weather was cloudy where a small discount was given for all-inclusive guests. There are lots of lovely promenades to walk around the bay although this early we did have to wear jumpers to combat the strong wind. Newspapers are available from the kiosk a short walk from the hotel. There is adequate Wi-Fi connection in the lobby area and throughout the day guests could often be seen tapping away on various electronic devices. Overall a good quality hotel offering the usual all-inclusive fare.More

nice week, very busy, great rooms, food and staff - a few niggles

Stayed (2 adults & one 15yr old) first week of April 2015. Check in was slow but not unexpected with the amount of people. The room was very nice, large, clean, well appointed and well set-out, in fact all of the the hotel is very clean and well looked-after. The restaurant is a little chaotic, especially at breakfast, but this is totally to do with how it is set out rather than the staff of facilities and really needs just re-arranging. The food is generally very good and if you really can't find something to eat then you are being very picky. Be warned that all men need to have long trousers for the evening sitting - I had very long, but '3-quarter' length ones on and had to change them as they were not acceptable. This seemed a bit picky but I accepted the ruling and I know several men in the same situation as me and so were sat in denim jeans for each evening meal, which rather defeated the object of the rule. Outside boasts two large swimming pools - one heated and well used and the other not and empty. I used the latter which was great after a few mins but for children I can see why the other pool was used more. The sunbeds were plentiful and of good quality and the grounds were very well maintained. The poolside Aloe bar/grill was well stocked and you can help yourself all day long to freshly cooked food and all types of drink. This was exceptional really. The animation do their best but I'm afraid I thought that their evening shows where they mimed and danced were pretty amateurish which is a shame as the stage & lighting facilities are superb. The free Wi-fi is totally terrible and even the staff agreed. Slow, constantly dropping out and with a lot of dead areas resulting in lots of people congregating in the Reception area where the signal was best. We enquired about upgrading to the paid service but were told by reception that this was poor also and wasn't recommended. This is easily fixed and so unacceptable really. Big plus points go for the unexpected complimentary bottle of sparkling wine left in our room for our anniversary, unnecessary, unexpected but very welcome. So on the whole a really nice hotel, good staff, clean and with very good facilities that with a few improvements could be exceptionalMore
