Hotel Calypso

A good pool scene and a handy setting close to the beach – just a couple of reasons this big, bright hotel wins the vote.

This place is just a 10-minute walk from Salou’s beach, one of the best sandy stretches on the Costa Dorada. It’s in a lively little sea port, with a raft of shops, bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

The Calypso comes with lots of activities. There are 2 main pools for starters. The 10-pin bowling alley wins plaudits on TripAdvisor, too.

Calypso

Reasonable hotel, good food, plenty of drink AI 9am-11pm , night entertainment average to poor. Location was not too bad few streets back from the beach. Room was ok, , flat screen tv , with a couple of uk channels. Free wifi was crap , took on average 3-5 mins to load a page although you could upgrade for £20 for fast broadband all over the hotel.More

Great 5 night stay

Overall the hotel was great with an excellent all-inclusive service and good food. The rooms were of impeccable hygiene. The bed sheets and towels were changed daily which enforced the hygiene aspect of the rooms. Our balcony had a pleasant view that overlooked one of the two swimming pools contained within the hotel. There was little noise at night as well which provided almost perfect sleeping conditions. Although they didn't offer much variety, the breakfasts and dinners were usually good. One small problem I found while at dinner was that very young children were allowed to help themselves to the trays of food in the buffet which often resulted in some foods being mixed with others. This also caused quite a mess at breakfast time. The lunch was entirely self catered with a 'snack bar' that offered a wide variety of foods for all preferences. I thouroughly enjoyed the snack bar, mainly for its array of different foods. The area surrounding the hotel is very good. Many shops, restaurants and bars are only a ten minute walk away from hotel calypso. This made the leisure aspect of our stay very accessible. Also, portaventura, a theme park, is located only a few miles away from the hotel that can be accessed either by taxi, or the cheaper option of a bus which you can ride to portaventura for three euros. The entertainment in the hotel was excellent. There was a different show every night of our stay that collectively were very enjoyable. The shows ranged from a Michael Jackson tribute act to a film quiz. The entertainment was always full as they always delivered and I would say that it was one of the best aspects of the hotel! I really enjoyed my stay at hotel calypso and any bad reviews should be ignored. Definitely a recommendation for all.More

Fantastic holiday

Stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of September. Absolutely nothing to complain about. The staff were mostly very helpful and pleasant. The food was some of the best food we'd ever had at a Spanish hotel. The al fresco snack bar was to die for! Our room was in the Calypso 2. The room was spacious and cleaned daily to a good standard. We asked for a pool view room and this is what we got. The All Inclusive bar offers a wide variety of soft and alcohol drinks, including cocktails. The pool area is always clean and there is always plenty of sunbeds available, regardless of what time of day you go out. The entertainment in the evening was to a good standard and took place outdoor which made a nice change to sitting in a stuffy room. During the day the entertainment staff offer games and activities. All in all an excellent holiday and we will definitely be returning!More

winter break...

Last minute school october week and back to the calypso. Had booked a cheaper room to save this time but on arrival pleased to be informed that we'd been given the larger family room at no extra cost! :). Tends to be quiet this time of year but we were very lucky with the weather and two kids aged 6 and 9 were still able to go into the pool everyday. Seemed to be an older crowd there this year and many spanish guests as I think around this time there is a spanish holiday. Entertainment team still great and even though theres only a few kids at kids club they keep them entertained. Food: plenty of it all day and something for everyone, Everyone enjoyed the Al Fresco lunch/snack area but i think this is only weather permitting. Rooms cleaned everyday and I recognised a lot of the staff from previous visits which I think is a good sign. I always find the staff to be very helpful and if there are any issues they are dealt with very quickly. Managed the beach again which is only about 10 mins walk downtown so easy to get to and once again visited Portaventura theme park, really quiet at that time of year so able to get on the rides no problem with no waiting time at all. Closes earlier in October although if you purchase a halloween ticket on top of your normal ticket you stay later. The halloween theme is fantastic and they put so much into it. All in all I think this hotel is a great base to visit salou, tarragona etc. and ive no doubt il be returningMore

Pleasent decent stay in Salou

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in half board basis. The room was big and quite better than I expected. Towels were changed every day. My room had a balcony with pool view, quite pleasant to stay there reading a book or smoking a cigarette. The breakfast and dinner were decent, not top quality but for what you pay it´s good. The only thing down was that drinks were not included in dinner, I had to pay for it apart, but I think that t is normal in this kind of hotel in half board basis. The internet was free only in the bar area, but the connection was too slow, I couldn´t use it. It was also available pay internet in the room, but I didn’t try it. The location is good, in a calm area, easy to park the car. The beach and the shops/bars area is about ten minute walk.More
