A good pool scene and a handy setting close to the beach – just a couple of reasons this big, bright hotel wins the vote.
This place is just a 10-minute walk from Salou’s beach, one of the best sandy stretches on the Costa Dorada. It’s in a lively little sea port, with a raft of shops, bars and restaurants on the doorstep.
The Calypso comes with lots of activities. There are 2 main pools for starters. The 10-pin bowling alley wins plaudits on TripAdvisor, too.

Brilliant family hotel
I stayed at the calypso from 14th to 21st August and I have to say I am not disappointed at all that I booked here. It was an amazing week and I already want to go back! When we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed by the staff who were generally friendly, but sometimes they were rude and favoured the Spanish, which was the only down side. There are two buildings: Calypso 1 and 2; we stayed in Calypso 1. We stayed in a double bed room which was quite spacious. There isn't much in terms of kitchen appliances so you need to bring your own. The beds are typical thin sheets. The balcony is of a good enough size to sit outside. The bathroom was clean and showers were powerful. The maids are excellent and will clean your rooms and provide you with fresh towels nearly every day. The air conditioning is free but incredibly noisy, it kept me awake at night, rumbling away. The walls are paper thin and you can hear people snoring/talking next door as well as sounds outside, which was a real downside. You can buy a wifi pass for your stay to access wifi but the connection is still slow - don't get it unless you really need it. The hotel is in a good location, situated 10-15 mins walk from the beautiful beach and beachfront area. Lots of shops and amenities around the hotel if you want to do shopping. Pool is a decent size but absolutely packed with kids so you can't move. We went all inclusive and overall I was impressed by the food considering the hotel is just 3 stars. The breakfasts are ok but bacon streaky. There is a snack bar open every day which does things like hotdogs, chips and chicken burgers, and more healthy options. The evening meals are good with plenty of choice for fussy eaters, it's certainly not perfect but you get what you pay for. We chose this hotel for it's appeal to children as we travelled as a family, and the hotel's entertainment factor is it's strength. Entertainers organise activities during the day for adults/kids alike so everybody is occupied. During the night there is a kids disco at 9pm which the kids love. Entertainment shows starts around 10.30pm and includes classics such as dirty dancing, michael jackson and mamma mia. The shows were brilliant with talented singers/dancers/performers every night. Overall, I would definitely recommend families to stay in the Calypso for an unforgettable time. The positives: great entertainment and location The negatives: Difficult to sleep due to noisy distractions, rudeness of the staff, average foodMore

Great family holiday
Great family hotel, just back after spending a week with my husband, daughter, her husband and two granddaughters (aged 7 and 4). The hotel staff work extremely hard to keep the hotel clean, provide good food, great family entertainment etc. We were all inclusive, which suited with the children for ice cream, drinks etc...and the beer and wine was very acceptable as well. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel.More

Great in some many ways but some downsides
We stayed in two rooms on the 4th floor overlooking the pool. Arrival was excellent, quick friendly check in and told that we could get food on the outside terrace when we were ready. Rooms very clean and well maintained during our visit. ALL staff were excellent, very friendly, many smiles - tip be friendly and smile and they will respond so well. Food was excellent, always plenty to choose from, the restaurant could be busy but we always got a table - tip, avoid the queue at opening time and go a bit later. We preferred breakfast on the outside terrace, freshly made omelettes were worth queueing for and so nice to eat outside. We received two vouchers for the a la carte restaurant on the outside terrace in the evening. Once again very good food and nice to be served on a couple of occasions. The hotel is well located to walk into Salou and is close to a couple of great beaches, particularly the one if you turn right out of the hotel, keep going straight down then turn left at the end. There are a lot of steps but also a windy road if you don't fancy the steps. Downsides - the pools are both very busy and beds are taken straight away. This wasn't a problem to us as we love the beach and could always get beds later in the day. From our room watching the wait for beds was always entertaining. Sunbeds are unlocked at about 9 so people place chairs in their chosen positions and then sit there for an hour waiting for the beds. I have no issues if this is what people want but it is frustrating when the beds aren't used for hours and despite the signs management don't remove towels from unused sunbeds. All in all far more positives than negatives.More
