Hotel Calypso

A good pool scene and a handy setting close to the beach – just a couple of reasons this big, bright hotel wins the vote.

This place is just a 10-minute walk from Salou’s beach, one of the best sandy stretches on the Costa Dorada. It’s in a lively little sea port, with a raft of shops, bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

The Calypso comes with lots of activities. There are 2 main pools for starters. The 10-pin bowling alley wins plaudits on TripAdvisor, too.

Brilliant week

Was anxious of going here as some reviews are a little concerning. My family and I consisting of 2 children had a fab time. We were all inclusive which I believe is the best way. We all had our monies worth of drinks, water and alcohol, the all inclusive option should be explained though as food alcohol and snacks included however asking for a slushy,I had to pay for,it's the cheapest kids drink going. Clean hotel rooms, cleaned everyday with a change of towels. Food was ok. Could have done to possibly do a little more variety of foods but it was freshly cooked and replenished when empty. Small kids food bar for them to help themselves. Lots of fruit and snack bar offers snacks all day, crisps and icecream. The shows are fabulous and the staff work really hard. We'll defiantly visit again.More

Lucy F,

Nice hotel good location

Stayed here with my fiance for a week in july and have to say the hotel was lovely. It is located about 10mins walk from the main strip so it is quiet but still within walking distance to all shops and restaurants. We did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the food. Overall we were very pleased with what we got for the price we paid. More

Dirty and outdated

The beds are like bunker beds, rooms are dirty and small and the food is not good. I would not bring young kids because of the dirtyness and noise between rooms. The garden is ok and swimming pool is good. Staff at the front desk is good but cleaning staff are grumpy. More

Decent place, better than ex[ected

Arrived Saturday evening late, easy check in, booked all inclusive. Rooms are decent size I was in the main block (2 I think) over the pool, nice rooms, good size balcony, lots of storage flat screen TV, bed was comfy, air con good, bathroom ok, all in all happy. All inclusive is good, not much info from girls in reception so took a day to work out everything, san miguel on draft always cold and served in pint glasses until 10pm and then 1/2 pint classes afterwards (assume to keep queue times down) always 6-7 bar staff on at the pool bar of a night so never queued much. Spanish vodka etc all ok, and well worth taking the AI option. There is another Bar on the reception level which is also all inclusive. Entertainment went from the good to the awful, grease and the broadway show were good, a good laugh and some talented people, but the comedy show was dire, pretty busy of an evening and the entertainment starts between 10pm and 10.30pm once the kids disco is done. Drinks are reasonable (after AI finished) or if you are half board, 5 euro for a beer and vodka diet coke. Huge vodka measures. really good selection of drinks. Food is decent, after working it out for ourselves there is a the restaurant but also la terraza which does snacks (apart from evening meal time) found the food to be of a decent quality with lots of choice, bit lukewarm at times but all edible, breakfast was decent as well. the snack bar is great with burgers, chicken cooked in front of you. Pool area is ok, main pool has limited space, sun beds are ok, pool opens @ 9.15am when the unchain the sunbeds, no real rush for them but all taken by @ 10am. 2 main pool and a couple of kids pools, lots of entertainment in the day. Hotel is generally cleanish!!!! the pool areas appear to be jetwashed every day, but they could do a much better job cleaning the areas in front of the stage (may be stacking up the chairs and tables each night) and jet washing next day, It's by no means dirty though. Rooms and inside the hotel are fine. loads going on all day with the animation team who work hard, as do the cleaners, bar staff, restaurant staff etc I would say it's predominantly Brits on holiday here , but there is a good number of russian guests as well (salou seems to have become a popular destination for them), some Spanish and dutch as well, no issues or bad behaviour in any guests. 5 min walk in to town, 10mins to the centre beach area. Much better than expected it to be, and would recommend the all inclusive option if you like to spend time in the hotel. Allowed to use AI on last day (travelling home day) even though check out at 10am, nice touch. I would return here and it's fab for kids.More

Good hotel for the price.

(Young couple aged 22) Came here for a week with my girlfriend on the 10th July. Overall we found the hotel was very good, rooms are very clean towels changed (if needed) and beds made every day. The hotel has 2 big pools, one is a family pool and the other is more of a relaxing pool and does has a no lilo policy as people have mentioned but there is a family pool for that. As for the food, we found that the food during the day was better than at night, Breakfast was good standard fried buffet style, with cereal and fruit etc, then we usually ate at the upstairs snack bar during the day, there is a buffet and also a grill where you can order other things such as burgers, hotdogs and kebabs etc. Night time downstairs we felt that the food was quite basic and was often be similar each night and could sometimes be quite random. There are two sides to the downstairs buffet that made it seem like there was a big choice however it was the same on both sides. When we booked we read about theme nights we only saw one of these while here and not much changed and we wasn't informed on arrival about the days this is on or anytime apart from when we noticed on the day. The all inclusive drinks was nice and relaxed compared to most hotels as you could get a couple of drinks at once rather than just one per person etc. Although we found that they made the drinks very strong, sometimes filling more than half with vodka. (had to get another soft drink and self mix to compensate.) The al inclusive did end at 11 and entertainment could sometimes go on until 12 so you had to pay after 11. Most of the bar and kitchen staff where really polite and helpful. Also there in no fridge in the room which was bad for needing a drink in the room as water we had went warm quickly. Ignore a lot of the reviews as it seems people are just being very picky, this is a 3 star hotel not a 4/5.More
