Hotel Calypso

A good pool scene and a handy setting close to the beach – just a couple of reasons this big, bright hotel wins the vote.

This place is just a 10-minute walk from Salou’s beach, one of the best sandy stretches on the Costa Dorada. It’s in a lively little sea port, with a raft of shops, bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

The Calypso comes with lots of activities. There are 2 main pools for starters. The 10-pin bowling alley wins plaudits on TripAdvisor, too.

Don't go here in the Spring.

Arrived after a group of pensioners from Granada, only one person at reception to check in queue of people ,so took about 40 minutes. Room basic but clean. Stayed at front of hotel 5th floor above entrance. From about 8am every morning coaches sat with engines idling, not very environmentally friendly, never mind the disturbing noise.Food choice passable but lukewarm. No snacks available for all inclusive, out with meal times.Staff in restaurant friendly. Bar staff, especially old Manuel ,very grumpy.NO entertainment unless you wanted dance lessons with a group of pensioners. Evening the same, music to suit old pensioners to dance to.Worst thing about hotel, I felt like I was staying at a youth hostel, constant flow of Spanish and Irish teenagers on some sort of school trip. My own son was so intimidated he did not enter pool throughout stay. Paid extra for WiFi in room, buffers. No UK tv .Game room has only some working games, very run down. Will I return, NO. All the people who have given great reviews and returned I can only think place must be better in the Summer ?More

Caroline W,

Still an excellent hotel but evening meal gone down hill

We visited the hotel calypso in September 2014 for the 3rd time in 4 yrs this hotel usually ticks all the boxes for us and for the most part it still does. The hotel is well situated close to all amenities and a short walk to the beach and shops with some fabulous cocktail bars close by. The hotel is very clean, fresh towels daily and room cleaned everyday. The staff are friendly and welcoming and work really hard given this is a very busy hotel. We were recognised by the restraunt staff which was a nice touch. The entertainment is the primary reason we have continued to return to this hotel, fantastic nightly shows put on by the entertainment team, mini west end shows outside on the terrace are superb, however this year the hotel brought in some pretty poor acts flamenco dancers ect that were pretty dire, please get rid of them they really do not fit in with the usual high standard of entertainment this hotel offers. There is a mixed group of clientele at this hotel and usually something for everyone throughout the day and night. The atmosphere at the hotel is amazing and relaxed and perfect for meeting people of all nationalities. We were all inclusive and the drinks menu is pretty varied and generous. The food at breakfast is plentiful with a huge choice to suit all tastes from full English to continental taste. By far the biggest plus is the outdoor barbecue that serves meats freshly cooked with an amazing choice of extra,s. Me to the evening meal, I feel the menu and quality of the evening meal has really gone down hill since we started going to this hotel, the food was repetitive, Luke warm, lacked any flavour and didn't look very appetising. For the 2 weeks we were there the main meal consisted of mainly fish dishes which is ok if this is your taste but for the first time we ate out more in the evening than we have ever done before. There was the usual themed nights Mexican, Chinese and this was ok but again the food was luke warm and lacked any real flavour. I should add we are not fussy we book three star expecting three star but the food on this occasion was not to the usual standard Whilst we were on holiday I had my bag stolen from outside a fast food restraunt in the resort, containing both mine and my partners mobile phones NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOTEL , however for the purpose of the insurance we were required to call our insures to report this, the hotel public phone was not working and we were told we could not use the reception phone , following a really traumatic experience we were sent by the hotel reception staff down to the main resort to use a public pay phone this was really unhelpful and made us feel as though the hotel staff really did not care I really did not want to write anything negative about this hotel as we have previously enjoyed fabulous holidays there. We will not be returning in 2015 and hope the management take on board my honest review to prevent the standard slipping any furtherMore

Great Family Holiday

Hotel is excellent, very clean. Is well suited for family's. Great shows at night , could be doing with more during the day , but there is plenty to explore in Salou . All inclusive was good. Not alot to complain at apart from the beach being a good walk away .More

Best holiday......EVER!!!!!!!

Have stayed here many times over the years and have to say the calypso never fails! We are returning again (party of 7) in September and we are already counting the days. Entertainment is by far the best we have ever seen, always a very talented crew. (hoping its up to its usual high standard this year) Staff are all very friendly especially the lady in the shop. Reception staff very helpful. Restaurant staff very welcoming. Usually stay June/July/august hoping everything still the same in September......can't wait!!!:-)More
