The Khao Lak Merlin Resort has one of the best postcodes in the area – it’s tucked away in acres of tropical rainforest, and gives you easy access to the town centre.
This place is set in 16 acres of tropical gardens, so it’s got a real away-from-it-all feel. Location-wise, it’s next to a white-sand beach and just a few minutes’ drive from the centre of Khao Lak.
Spread around the gardens are 4 curvy pools and a couple of restaurants. Rooms are tucked among the greenery, too – they’re done out in Thai style, with handcrafted teak and bamboo pieces.

Excellent hotel. Nice rooms (with airco), bed and bathroom. Fresh bed sheets and towels (including pool towels) every single day. Good staff (not everyone speaks perfect English, but what the hack) and perfect swimming pools. Breakfast and food is great, but just book bed and breakfast and dine at one of the restaurants nearby (i.e. Siam Turmeric). Saves a lot of money 😉.More

Very good, could be excellent
Stayed here in May/June 17 fur 2 weeks, really enjoyed our stay. Our room location was very good and away from the construction works of the new hotel being built next door. We had a very nice welcome, Breakfast was good we ate at the restaurant near the beach multiple times and it was nice. A couple of improvements the hotel could make: 1. Wash the net curtains as they made the room smell a little musty. 2. The staff need to challenge other holiday Markers who decide to be selfish and smoke in the non-smoking pool area nearest the beach.More
Fantastic stay at this lovely hotel
We have just returned from 10 nights b&b at Khaolak Merlin. Checking in was swift and welcoming, a lovely cold flannel and cocktail were waiting for us. Rooms all situated around either swim up pools or jungle type streams. Spacious and well furnished with free use of safe, clean pool towels and two free bottles of drinking water every day. Although this hotel is not in the main centre of khao lak it is close to plenty of bars and restaurants. Once we'd eaten at Siam Turmeric we never ate anywhere else. Food was fantastic price and brilliant menus to chose from. Raj the Scottish owner made everyone feel welcome. Great location for bamboo rafting and elephant treking, which we did without tour operator. Phi phi Island we did through local tour operator Mr TukTuk best price whilst we were there. All in all a fabulous holiday although weather was hit and miss based on the fact we visited during rainy season.More
The upside of "low season"
We stayed at the Merlin for 8 nights. The "low season" is the more rainy time of year and tourist numbers are down but here's the upside. It's not all rainy days, we had three days of glorious sun and quite happy to see some rain to cool things down. In low season prices are down, at the Merlin we had a 15% off food and drinks card that effectively cancelled out the tax charged on the bill. We tried restaurants outside the resort but the bill was same and sometimes higher than what we paid at the Merlin and the food quality and atmosphere not even close to what you get at the hotel. Another upside is massage at the hotel at 30% discount so you can get four massages for 3200 bht. That works out at 800 bht per massage, double what you would pay in the town but for the quality of massage at the hotel this is a great deal. Of course with not many other tourists around you don't have a fight for a sun lounge at the pool. The Merlin actually has four main pools, two closer to the beach are popular but if you want a pool to yourself and no kids try the other two. Oh, and did I mention the complimentary upgrade we had from a superior room to a deluxe room! Look I haven't stayed at the other hotels in the area but I am very happy with the Merlin. The only reasons I would gave it a four star is there some suggestions that would make it five star. These are: provide bath robes in room and slippers (thongs are provided but not so nice!) and provide some more movie channels are TV is quite boring.More
The Perfect Honeymoon
My wife and I picked the Merlin Resort for our honeymoon because it looked completely different to any other hotel we had seen before. The hotel was perfect, we felt like we were part of the jungle, so quiet except for the local wildlife which was amazing to hear. The staff are very friendly and the area is always very clean. On arrival we were greeted with a sweet, cool drink and in our room they had decorated the bed with flower petals. The hotel is right on the beach front which is very clean and well maintained by the hotel. There are a few shops nearby and restuarants. We would stay here again in the future.More
