Hotel Mares

This one’s a great all-rounder, with fantastic Med views, waterfront restaurants and plenty of bars.

This hotel is blessed with good looks, all the way from the bougainvillea-draped buildings to the mountain backdrop. The Med is mere footsteps away, while both Marmaris and Icmeler are just 5 to 10 minutes’ drive from here.

The sea views aren’t wasted here – the buffet restaurant drinks them in, while the seafood à la carte nudges the waterfront. There’s a great choice of bars, while the pool set-up includes one that comes with slides.

Truly a stunning location filled with gardens and spectacular cleanliness around the hotel. The staff were all super friendly, and the animation team was great with children. Some days the team would get a bit fed up. The rooms are spotless and the maid is lovely! Overall the hotel was lovely and the staff was all caring! The reception staff was a bit stupid and ever so young, how would they manage if people had an complaint! Couldn't even speak English. The kids cocktails were just orange juice with a straw but innapropiate cocktail straws and decoration😶👀 Not very family friendly. Other than that, truly a beautiful place shame that the original hotel owner has now passed away.R.I.PMore

lovely hotel entertainment poor

we stayed here may 2014, this was my first ever abroad holiday so i didnt know what to expect, the hotel was lovely,we stayed in one fo the bungalows which had not long been modernised, there was a leak in both our bathrooms so we would get up to a flood each morning, we did report it and waited 2 days for repair but once repaired all was well, the maids came in every day and changed our beds and tidied up, the food was lovely, and lots of choice my onky negative was not much english selection unless you are under 6 and fancy chicken nuggets, i know it is turkey but i thought even an english breakfast would have been enough to satisfy the brits, although the week we went alot of Russians where there so this seemed to be their main clientele, maybe more brits travel in later months. the entertainment team work tirelessly 15 hour days to keep you entertained it is very repetitive but fun, the evening entertainment was rubbish, just a live band that played same songs day in day out, we met a lovelt couple and their daughter here and we joked one night saying if we heard this particular song again we would slit our own wrists , the band shuffled positions and changed appearance every night making it seem like they where trying to make it look like the band changed nightly, the 2 restarants on site where fab you can use ya AL in this through the day but need to book in advance if want to try it for the evening. the drinks selection on AL was pretty basic, cocktails where awful but refreshing change from efes !! they have an icrecream kiosk that sells icecream for 5 lira each, they give free icream at meal times that has a que a slong as the great wall of china and had selfish russias pushing in! one (adult ) even snatched and icecream from a baby coz they didnt want to wait, all in all a comfortable stay but i wouldnt go here again unlesss they gave better entertainmentMore

Misplaced rings

On our last visit to the Mares my friend left 2 expensive rings in our bedroom, these were not noticed until we arrived at the airport, after a frantic search of her luggage we contacted the rep for jet 2 holidays, who immediately rang the hotel and informed them, as we had kept the room on until nearly our flight time and the maids were cleaning as we departed we were both very worried. I also emailed the hotel from my phone, we then caught our flight home. I received an email first thing next morning from the Mares stating they had the rings and were in their safe. The Mares arranged for these to be given to the jet 2 rep. sending me pictures of him accepting the rings and signing for them. My friend had left the rings on the bed not in the safe, these rings were valued at approximately £6,000.00 we sent the valuation certificates with pictures to both jet 2 and the hotel. Jet 2 flew the rings to Leeds Bradford and were collected by my friend and here husband. I have found both management and staff go out of their way to be helpful and nothing is too much trouble, and I cannot understand the problems that Ray D encountered.More

Stolen ring from room safe, we couldn't believe it either.

Our one week all inclusive for £800 each seemed reasonable and the reviews were better than others so we booked our first holiday as husband and wife without the kids looking forward to our freedom. We were not disappointed on almost all counts. The fantastic view from our 4th floor, the great pool entertainment team sumptuous choice at meal times. Until the day we were leaving. it all clicked into place we had been robbed but not just once, twice. The first was a trial run just removing 100 of the local currency from our money in the safe. This happened on the first day. We knew the money was taken because we had not had chance to spend anything and we were down exactly 100 when we counted it out on our first visit to the local town. Just like phishing. (Which my bank successfully stopped on my visa cards this week) the thief first takes a little to see if it's noticed, then comes back for a large amount. Because we knew it would ruin our holiday and there was a 1% chance we had lost it else where we did not report it. Then the second robbery was my wife's diamond engagement ring. The stone was loose so she had not worn it all week and instead left it in the safe. We had plans to get the stone reset later in the week but out of sight meant out of mind and we forgot. Probably distracted with all the other expensive gifts we bought ourselves (white gold necklace/ring/real leather fur coat & boots). It was only on the morning of our departure that my wife remembered her ring and started to search. After exhausting our search we informed the reception. They accused us of telling lies, saying the only people able to enter the locked safe was site maintenance team. We had seen these maintenance staff in orange work clothes climbing down off the roof onto our floor and assumed they were innocent workers. We asked for an incident report number to claim on the insurance. They told us that the police would need to be involved. They would not call the police to the hotel but instead warned us if we took a taxi ride to marmaris police station and told the police they would keep us in jail for telling lies against their staff. (Midnight express came to mind) We couldn't take the risk of missing our transfer and flights so left it at that. With no proof or incident number and no support. (we were angrily rebuked by a holiday rep from a different travel company when we enquired about how to contact the police.) We felt so frustrated and helpless. We didnt talk about it when we got home so not to dwell on the negative. instead we chalked it up as a bad person from a good hotel and checked the reviews again to see if any other incidents had occurred. As we have no chance of getting our money or ring the least we thought we could do was warn other visitors to be careful or book another hotel. I leave others to decide what to do.More

Ray D,

Wow what a location

Stayed here for a week in September with my wife and our eldest daughter staying in one of the chalet rooms. The room was basic but clean and comfortable with a safe, air conditioning and fridge stocked daily with drinking water. The food was tasty and plentiful and although not aimed at the British pallet there was always something for everyone. The staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We are returning September 2015 with the whole family and we are all looking forward to it. More
