Hotel Mares

This one’s a great all-rounder, with fantastic Med views, waterfront restaurants and plenty of bars.

This hotel is blessed with good looks, all the way from the bougainvillea-draped buildings to the mountain backdrop. The Med is mere footsteps away, while both Marmaris and Icmeler are just 5 to 10 minutes’ drive from here.

The sea views aren’t wasted here – the buffet restaurant drinks them in, while the seafood à la carte nudges the waterfront. There’s a great choice of bars, while the pool set-up includes one that comes with slides.

Not what i was expecting

Where do I start? Myself, husband and 2 girls(12 &10), 10 nights AI £1600. Wish I had saved my money and not gone! Rooms: we booked a seafront villa, fab location, bad décor, kitchen falling to bits(no tea&coffee facilities or food to be taken back to your room so not sure why they need kitchens?!?!)curtains that didn't fit and were broken so didn't pull anyway, enough mastic for 5 bathrooms around the bath to cover the mould, writings on the walls, master bedroom smelt like damp wood. Restaurants were filthy! Dirty chairs, dirty tables, dirty plates, dirty cutlery. It was a good job if the filth put you off your food as the food was bad! It was as though we were fed the dregs from the bottom of the freezer. Chicken casserole, lamb casserole, veal casserole, seafood casserole. Ok if you like casserole I suppose! My kids lived on bread and chips and even that became difficult when the restaurant ran out of butter and ketchup! We ate in the Italian/Pizzeria and watched the 'chef' put our pasta in the microwave!! The staff were too busy on their mobiles to give good customer service. We felt like we were a nuisance to them. The porter seemed unhappy with the tip we gave him when we arrived and the 10 days got no better in relation to the staff. I must say though that the animation team were fab and tried hard to keep everyone happy. Well done animation!! The location of the hotel was pretty amazing - looking from the beach over to the mountains, the view was stunning. We spent the days that it didn't rain laying on the jetty listening to the waves and taking in the view. 5* for location!! We had spent 18 months looking forward to our family holiday. We had to go cheap as mortgage deposits are not small!! but I do feel that even the £1600 we paid was far too much for this hotel and we will definitely not be returning to the Mares.More

Super location

We stayed in the main hotel (room 1122), our booking was listed as land view and we were amazed that from our huge balcony we had a magnificent view of Marmaris bay if we moved our chairs by 10%, in any other hotel I have stayed in this would count as premium sea view.Room spacious, bed HUGE, large french windows with insect screen, mini fridge with cold water (replaced daily) free, easily operated, safe.Separate room for cases etc. bathroom fine. Overall the room was great, a pleasure to relax in, only downside was that the sofa was a bit shabby but the bed was so huge we didn't use it!Maid service absolutely charming, flowers left in room,, towels arranged as butterflies and a lovely happy smiley face to greet you each morning. The food Breakfast- Amazing selection of bread, beautifully fresh loved it. Yoghurt of all varieties, honey and jams, also a whole honeycomb, cheeses, salads, pastries. On the hot side - omelettes and eggs cooked to order, and a variety of dishes on hotplates - scrambled eggs, beans, frankfurters sometimes spicy mushrooms scotch pancakes and once bizarrely dauphinois potatoes! Coffee lousy, orange juice not good I paid the extra 5TL one morning for freshly squeezed and the quality of the oranges was poor but perhaps I was just unlucky. Lunch - Salads amazing, fresh, colourful and lots of different types, plenty of dips ,aubergines etc. The hot food not really my thing, a bit like schooldinners but always a lady making crepes and a variety of pastas and sauces. If you have a sweet tooth the variety of desserts is astounding. Dinner- Salads posher! Wonderful anchovies and chefs have prepared various savoury mousses and titbits served on fancy spoons. Hot food much the same as lunch. Wine really horrible - chilled is the only way to drink it. Service lovely especially from Sibel(excuse spelling) but she brightened up your day and nothing was too much trouble. The bars in main hotel - lovely to sit outside, panoramic views of Marmaris Bay kids running around can be a pain. They really need to sort out the music, hits from the movies 60s hits and all too loud - sometimes there were only 6 of us in bar and none of us wanted this ghastly repetitive music - this also applies to the restaurant, Sultan Bar - much more atmosphere, can sit in sun or under advocado trees , again I cannot stress enough the veiws from just about anywhere in the hotel are breathtaking. The pool- Not for us ,having heard the animation team from the bar I checked to see when there was a quiet time to swim and the only time there is not some activity or other was midday but I am sure if you have kids it would be great. Pizzeria Oh dear Pizza bases sensational toppings utterly tasteless, Starters spinich with cold hard poached egg awful Fish restaurant- Lovely setting right by the sea very romantic- fish(Bass and Bream) cooked to perfection - Live Turkish music which we loved- a wonderful evening with great service worth the supplement , less than £10 each Superb Overall if you like all inclusive this place is great, a bit too big for us but nipping clean, great service and good valueMore

Great place to stay

Firstly i cannot understand all the negative comments about this hotel but the star ratings in Turkey are not the same as uk and some of europe, maybe it is looking a bit tired but much better than we expected, for the price we paid. We only stayed for one night but would have liked longer maybe next time, rooms were nice and spacious and clean we were in the main reception building and had a lovely sea veiw(room 1317)but maybe this side could be noisy because of the pool and music. The food was lovely but please remember it mostly leans to Turkish so dont expect English food if you want that dont go all inclusive!!Grounds and gardens lovely right by the sea but no beach to speak of. Only downside really was it was noisy especially inside and children running around unsupervisedGrrr!. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful although they work long hours and must be getting tired and glad they are coming to the end of the season. We would be happy to stay here againMore

Lovely location

I have just returned from a 7 day break at this hotel. This is not a 5* resort but it is clean and the staff are (mostly) very nice. A word of warning for those travelling out of season the pool is not heated, the air con ...should you need it.... Is not on towards the end of the season. The main restaurant and the pizza restaurant are the only places you can get food at the end of the season although there is a snack bar advertised and we were told it was open was very much closed. There is a pastry/coffee bar but they only provide bread rolls and occasionally there is cake, this is not much use if you cannot eat wheat or gluten but there is an onsite shop where you can buy crisps and other snacks. Ice cream is not included in the all inclusive option which is a bit strange given how many children they have at the hotel. The food available at the main restaurant was ok, just very bland. If you want to eat stew every day then your on to a winner. My advice would be to eat out in the town area. Breakfast was good, omelettes cooked to order and there was a lot of fresh salad at every meal. Rooms. - this was a bit of an issue for us as we booked a 1 bedroom villa and were told that we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom villa by the company we booked through.....we were put into a room with three single beds in. Apparently this was organised because they close the villas in the off season, there was no point attempting to speak to the manager as we were advised that they would charge us a lot of money to move a family room. Our room was clean just not what we paid for, the balconies are big and spacious, housekeeping are very friendly and helpful. Most of the staff re very nice and friendly there was only one exception a member of staff at the pool area who was rude. The staff were very patient with some of the children who were running wild around the hotel, they were literally stampeding up and down the corridors creating a racket. They also had to deal with some very rude behaviour from the teenagers who were whistling and clicking their fingers at staff. The pool was always mobbed with screeching kids so we went down to the beach area, it is a man made beach area, there is not a lot of sand but there are plenty of sun breeds and it is very beautiful, the scenery is gorgeous but this was an off season trip, I think it would be a little noisier in the peak of the season. Catch the bus into Marmaris ....the orange and White bus, there is a bus stop at the top of the drive down to the hotel. The buses come every 10 mins and it is 2.50L a person to get to town. There are lots of restaurants there the food is good, fresh and relatively cheap.More

Fabulous staff make this hotel stand out

I stayed at this hotel for the last week of October as a 'last minute' break (no children or husband with me - yay!!). The hotel is one of the first 5* hotels built in Marmaris in approx 1995 and so is now quite tired. However, it is clean and the rooms are a good size with everything you need and very comfortable beds. The food (all inclusive) was more than adequate with enough choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner to suit everyone's palate. What made my stay so memorable though was the fantastic staff. Even though it was the last week of the season they were still very smiley and helpful - going out of their way to make sure everyone was happy, comfortable and had everything they needed. I was really impressed and felt very welcome and cared for. The team in the spa - particularly Aydin and Erni were amazing too - superb customer service, listened to what was needed and provided a great extra facility for customers. I would definitely go back and highly recommend this to anyone wanting a relaxing break in good value accommodation with great staff.More
