Olympic Lagoon

This hotel pulls out all the stops – it has 7 pools, including a lazy river, plus a quartet of restaurants.

Location-wise, this hotel makes things easy. Just over the road – about 5 minutes’ walk – is a sandy beach with super-shallow water. And less than 10 minutes by cab or bus gets you to lively Ayia Napa.

The hotel is big on pools – 7 in all, including one just for adults, and a family-friendly lazy river. The restaurant scene ticks off 4 places, one of which is a retro-style diner. There’s a great bar for cocktails, too.

Wonderful holiday and fairytale wedding

Went to this hotel as part of a group of family and friends at the end of August for our son's wedding on 3rd September. Everything was perfect. We stayed in the Fisherman's Village with its own pool which was beautiful. The buffet food throughout the week was great and the the staff are lovely. Everyone was so friendly from the welcoming porter on arrival to the wedding planning team. Andronike in the Cinnamon Bar taught me some very special Greek phrases and Tsanke, Lucia, Asta and Myriam were all so helpful in the restaurant. Had a lovely time talking to various members of the friendly Entertainments Team, especially Annabelle, Sam, Lauren and Rob and the bar staff are terrific, especially Mikalis. The wedding itself was absolutely perfect, held in the Gardens with a delightful meal on the Limonaki. As the mother of the groom, I found it was magical, and very personal to my son and his bride. Couldn't recommend it more, both as a lovely holiday and perfect wedding.More

3.5 stars, but no option to do so!

The best place to start any review is on the matter which either concerned or pleased you most. In our case, sadly, it is about our room allocation. My partner and I booked a seven night stay in Fisherman’s Village, and we emailed the hotel in advance of our visit to ask if we may have one of the downstairs rooms, but were told that it wasn’t possible to make requests like this in advance of our stay. So, on checking in, we once again asked the receptionist if it was possible to have a downstairs room, but we were told that this wasn’t possible and that we had been allocated an upstairs room. This was disappointing, but we were philosophical about it as there was a 50% chance of securing a downstairs room. We were told to come back the next day and enquire whether any downstairs rooms would become available during our stay. This, we duly did only to be informed that there were no available downstairs room for the complete duration of our stay. Again, this was disappointing, but at this stage we agreed that this was the luck of the draw and that nothing could be done. Imagine our surprise (and annoyance) when, at the halfway point of our holiday, various parties of newly arrived guests were put into downstairs rooms at Fisherman’s Village. I ask the management now, how is this possible when (apparently) you are not allowed to request these rooms in advance, and there was a list in existence with our names on it, requesting a downstairs room when one became available? I fully accept that there are circumstances where people cannot stay in upstairs rooms for mobility reasons etc. However, I am pretty certain that this is not the case in every single instance. As a result of having a balcony rather than a terrace, it meant that the loungers at the far side of the Fisherman’s Village pool had to be used. This is not exactly an inconvenience. However, it just so happens that the pumps that create the current in the Lazy River are located right behind these loungers, meaning that there is a constant mechanical noise all day whilst the Lazy River is in operation. I realise that in the scheme of things, these factors do not exactly constitute a hardship, but when an area such as Fisherman’s Village is specifically billed as being a quieter environment (with an price tag to match), then it really should live up to its billing, and I don’t believe that it did. Many reviews have mentioned the many wedding parties. We didn’t find the ceremonies obtrusive in and of themselves, but some of the post-wedding parties taking place close to Fisherman’s Village went on well after the all-inclusive ended at 23:30, when the resort was supposedly winding down. Often two parties were in progress simultaneously, meaning that there were two different lots of music clashing. This was not terribly relaxing if, as we do, you like to have a quiet sit out on the balcony at the end of the evening. A word of warning if (like us) you don’t want cats round by your table and under your chair whilst you are having dinner. They are prevalent in the adults-only dining area attached to the main restaurant, and seem to be less-so elsewhere. While we were there, a couple complained about the number of cats in this particular dining area. They were told by a manager that they were only there because the guests feed them, which to my ears sounds like a bit of a cop-out. If you had other, less ‘socially acceptable’ creatures, running around in a dining area, I’m sure something would be done about it very swiftly. The reception, waiting, and kitchen staff were all very pleasant and the staff at the pool bar were particularly good. They were quick, pleasant and always cheerful. Our chambermaid Anna was fantastic and is a great asset to the hotel. The Kanika All-Stars all worked very hard and also very long hours. Their shows were well put together and they were always upbeat and friendly. I hate to single any individuals out in particular for extra praise, but Kyle, Annabel, Annalise and Lauren always said made a point of saying hello, and Kyle in particular enquired how we were, every time he passed our table. Nice touches such as sunglasses cleaning, drinks orders by the pool, cold towels etc., were all welcome during the day, and the staff who provided these services were unfailingly pleasant and efficient, and these touches are certainly the mark of any complex that markets itself as ‘high-end’. Unfortunately, any hotel that caters for multiple wedding party groups at once, some of which number 30-plus, will find that the exclusivity that they describe themselves as having is invariably diluted, and only serves to make couples or small families to sometimes feel a bit like they are there to pad out the numbers.More

Best wedding and holiday ever!

Myself and my husband stayed here for 2 weeks and got married on the 24th September. From start to finish our holiday was amazing. All staff are polite and helpful. They will do anything for you. We had family stay at this hotel and they were very impressed. The rooms: I read some reviews saying that the rooms needed some TLC... Well the rooms myself and my family stayed in were perfect. The beds were the most comfortable beds we have slept in. It was fab to have English channels including MTV and ITV. The shower was lovely and bathroom really clean. The cleaners work hard every day and I could never spot a fault. Food: I was at the hotel for 7 days before I got married so I needed to be sensible with the all inclusive to make sure I could fit in my dress. I was impressed with the healthy selection of foods, fresh fruit in morning, and different salads and vegetables in the lunch and evening. The best meals for us was the Chinese on the Saturday and the sunday roast. Beats Toby carvery, it was delicious. We also liked that there was a food hut by the family pool that had sandwiches, salads and ice cream all day. The captains deck was lovely food. We went twice during our stay and my husband loved the diner. Wedding: I would like to say a huge thank you to the kanika wedding team. They were so helpful with all my questions and queries up to the wedding day. There were 3 weddings including ours on our wedding day but we felt like the only couple getting married which was lovely. The day was perfect and we wouldn't change a thing. I would really recommend anyone thinking of getting married here to do it and dont listen to the stupid reviews about weddings on a conveyer belt... This is not true, u are made to feel like you are the only couple getting married and you can't fault anything. Hair and make up: I had my hair and make up done on my wedding day. My bridesmaids also had theirs done too. Helen and her team for hair are awesome. My hair stayed in place all day, Even on the windy wedding bus. The next morning my hair was still in place and everyone commented on how fab my hair looked the next day when I was around the pool. I was going to do my own make up but changed my mind last minute after I saw how fab the other brides looked. Collette and her team make me and my bridesmaid look beautiful and natural, every thing was perfect. Thank you So gutted to be home. We can't wait to return in the future to celebrate one of our anniversary's. Thank you Olympic Lagoon team for an amazing holiday and a magical wedding that was perfect. More
