Hotel Bitacora

The Hotel Bitacora is a family favourite thanks to its A-star location and pool scene. Plus, it’s only minutes away from the shops, bars and restaurants of Playa de las Americas.

The Hotel Bitacora’s main selling point is its location – the hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the beach and only a bit further from central Playa de las Americas.

Families have it made at this hotel. A new adventure playground opened its doors in 2013, and there are two pools and a buffet restaurant.

Second visit in 2 years - still high standards and some improvements

Married couple, early sixties, staying on half board, travelling with TUI. We last visited in this hotel in December 2012, we like this area of Las Americas and have stayed in some of the other hotels nearby; we tried the Bitacora again this year because we enjoyed our last visit. Very handy for all shops and beaches without being too close for noise. Reception staff, dining room and bar staff and cleaners were always happy to help and were always friendly. We called the maintenance team twice and both problems were fixed within 10 minutes. the building renovation work that was going on during our last visit is now complete and we were impressed by the quality of the room upgrades. We were on the 7th floor facing the mountains, no sun at all but much better views than looking at the pool all day - but only if you keep your head up (see photos), lower floors will not have quite the same panoramic view. Safe deposit box hire was cheap, as was pool towel hire, our fridge was on, and free, with a relatively cheap mini-bar option too. Our room was large and well decorated, large screen TV with 100+ channels including BBC1 & ITV1 plus three other TRUE movie channels in English. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard; clean towels every day too. Public areas, including toilets, were also kept very clean. Loads of places to sit and relax. Dining areas - always a great variety of food available for breakfast and dinner and the overall quality is good too, service was excellent. The only issue for me was that I believe hot food should be served hot, not warm or cool. Unfortunately, much of the 'hot' food was always just warm: fortunately, there is a microwave oven on the servery counter and I made good use of that to reheat all of my hot meals. We also took up the option to have one meal in the Spring Vulcano hotel just over the road - it was worth a visit just to compare and contrast both the food and service - and the Vulcano serves my favourite drink (Strongbow) which, oddly, the Bitacora does not (it's probably the only the bar in the area that doesn't based on my experience). Evening entertainment was usually OK - a local musician for an hour or so until dinner finishes, followed by the show act, a mix of good quality performers during our week there. Our room was also far enough away from the lounge not to be troubled by the late night entertainment. Pool area was always clean and tidy and we had no problems at all in getting loungers - especially just outside the, upper patio/bar area which is secluded and gets the sun for longer and where there was never any children. There was never any of the 'early morning booking loungers with towels' as described by other reviewers - but this was winter season. Very large and well maintained children's play area (see photo). Negatives? The emptying of previous night's empty bottles to outside waste bins woke us daily at 08:00. Would we go back? Maybe, but perhaps two visits is enough for us; next time we'll give the Spring Vulcano Hotel a try.More

10 Days holiday

We arrived at the hotel on the 29th November for 10 nights. Had a good room on the sixth floor.Room very clean and food good.On checking in noticed a sign saying the pool would be closed due to broken tiles for health and safety. It was not just an inconvenience it was totally unacceptable. How people could sit there with the sthul saw going, the noise and dust was awfulness. This would be a health and safety issue breathing in all that dust. We were told the volcano pool could be used which was very cramped and the children's pool area at Bitacora was noisy. We did we did see Monica she said if we had been half board we would have been put on all inclusive but as we were on AI she could offer us either some trips or a discount off another holiday. She said she had lots of loyal customers apparently these people were happy with the dust and noise. We don't do trips and a reduction on another holiday did not solve our problem. We were going to the beach each day paying for beds and lunches each day, which added about £250 to our holiday. We came just to relax by the pool but this did not happenMore

Excellent hotel, fantastic entertainment team ever!!!

Very sad to be going home tomorrow from The Bitacora. Here's my story! This is the second time at this hotel and we are hoping to come back in February 2015. The rooms are very big, hotel very clean, staff wonderful, pool warm (even in December!), food good, great location. This hotel is newly refurbished and it shows. We've been coming to Tenerife for 20 years and it's the best hotel by far that we've stayed in (and we've stayed in a few!). We have a 4 year old and the best thing about the hotel is the entertainment team. They are THE BEST! We have made great friendships and would like to thank Javi, Pinky, Carlos (not forgetting Fabio!) who made our holiday the best it could be. Our daughter LOVES them....thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! Also, thanks to our friend Mohammed, the bingo master! We will not go anywhere else in Tenerife. The entertainment team work really hard all through the day and put on fantastic cabaret shows. The best mini-club ever, run by Javi (who we love!!!) and the best park in Tenerife (Springlyworld). Thank you so much. We love you all!!! Lisa, Phil & Jasmine xxxMore

Hotel gets better and better

We have just returned from our fifth visit to the hotel since our first stay in 2009. During this time there have been constant improvements and upgrades including the dining room, hotel exterior, refurbishment of all the rooms, new flat screen televisions etc . This year the cracked tiles in and around the pool area were replaced. This meant we did not have use of the main pool for several days which turned out to be only a minor inconvenience as we had use of the pool in the sister hotel Vulcano and in a way I was glad to see the management were putting customer safety first. Upon arrival we had what I would describe as an administrative glitch in our booking and had occasion to speak with Monica the hotel public relations officer. She was fantastic and had our problem resolved immediately. I would urge anyone with concerns or problems during their stay to speak with her as she is keen to help and really wants the hotel to be the best available. I have found the hotel to be spotlessly clean, the staff to be friendly and helpful and the food to be of excellent quality with great variety (my bathroom scales are testament to that). What can I say about the animation team other than that they are absolutely fabulous, hard working and exceptionally talented. Pinky and Carlos you made my holiday really special. I cannot remember having so much fun or laughing so loud, Great therapy for anyone. A final tip if you are planning a trip to the Bitacora, apply for a Spring Club card it is free and not only gives generous discount to bar bills but free wifi throughout the hotel.More

Enjoyable Stay

We looked at booking a package one week holiday for around November/December time. After looking at various tour operators websites we decided on Tenerife a place we had never visited before and chose the “Bitacora” to base our holiday. On arrival we found the room to be very comfortable and spacious and well fitted out with plenty of wardrobe and storage space for our personal effects. The room was very clean with the room being serviced every day. We stopped on a half board basis with plenty of variety at the evening meals from a buffet selection with cooks freshly preparing some of the dishes. Breakfast was again a buffet giving a good selection being served from 7am which we found helpful on some mornings when we had tours booked with fairly early starts. We found the restaurant staff to be very polite, friendly and efficient during our meals. A few things which I think the management should consider: • Offering free WiFi throughout the hotel rather than in just public areas • The shower screen in the bathroom wasn’t very efficient allowing water to spray onto the floor towards the rear of the bath • Looking at making the bedrooms more soundproofed as we could hear vehicles outside the hotel (before 5am one morning). We was on the second floor at the front of the hotel. • Some of the hot food at breakfast wasn’t as hot as it should have been. (a guest we was talking to advised that he had reported this on a previous visit)More
