Hotel Bitacora

The Hotel Bitacora is a family favourite thanks to its A-star location and pool scene. Plus, it’s only minutes away from the shops, bars and restaurants of Playa de las Americas.

The Hotel Bitacora’s main selling point is its location – the hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the beach and only a bit further from central Playa de las Americas.

Families have it made at this hotel. A new adventure playground opened its doors in 2013, and there are two pools and a buffet restaurant.

Good and Bad

We booked this short break to join my husbands father for his 75th Birthday celebrations. So there should have been 3 families in total - sadly my father in law was ill and ended up not coming but his other son and wide and his grandson and girlfriend were all booked here. We were the last to arrive on Thursday lunchtime and were greeted with sorry we are over booked so your room is in another hotel across the road. Not a great start however they offered to upgrade us to all inclusive when we moved back the following day. It was a pain spending the first night in a different hotel and to be fair not a great hotel either and the. Have to half pack again and move back on the Friday morning. Good Points - staff on reception and the main bar hall are good . Friendly efficient and pleasant . THE BAD. - staff at the pool bar leave a lot to be desired. Morose , sullen and sometimes down right rude. Never appears to be enough staff on the bar there and 9 times out of 10 you queue for five or ten minutes . They snatch your all inclusive card from you never say hello and literally talk amongst themselves before nearly throwing your drinks at you. Food - On the whole you cannot complain it is good . Wide choice for all tastes . Staff in here are pleasant and friendly . The worst scenario is the sun beds which are literally a joke. There are not enough beds for everyone and unless you join the ones who get up at god knows what time you don't get one. Ridiculous situation which needs addressing by the management. We wandered down to the pool at 9.30 am and could never get one at all. This needs monitoring as people put their towels on the beds and then don't even use them. They are also so close together there is not a breathing space between them. Really really awful. Rooms are ok spacious and clean however did not appreciated the maid thundering into our room one morning with not even a knock on the door - was only 9 am and we are on our holidays !!!! I would say it is an ideal hotel if you have children as most of the entertainment is directed at them . Mind you the magician on Sunday night was excellent and I don't even like then !!!!More

Overall pretty good

Just got home now after 10 nights at the hotel all inclusive with my wife and 18 month old son. I'm going to start with the negatives if I may. 1. The sunbed situation is ridiculous. By 7:15am most of the sunbeds have been reserved. If you get down after 8am then forget it. Same old story of beds being reserved only for their owners not to turn up until 10:30/11am when the sun makes it over the hotel and they are finally usable. My wife and I were both assured by the hotel that this wouldn't happen.... It does and is very annoying. 2. There is no shop in the hotel. Not a huge issue as there are a couple within a few minutes walk - not an issue, just worth mentioning. 3. There is no gym of any sort. 4. Service at the bar is stupid. You cannot get served at the bar so have to sit and wait to be seen to by a waiter.... We waited on two occasions for more than 15 minutes without being seen to just to get a diet coke. Both times we gave up and didn't bother after that. 5. You have to give your room card over every time you get drinks at the pool bar, again not a big issue but something to remember that seems a little pointless considering you're wearing an all inclusive band. So enough of the moaning... on to the good bits. Hotel standard is very good, lovely sized rooms, very comfortable and very clean. Hotel is great for kids, the play park is a huge asset to the hotel - a really quality area that a lot of places in England would be proud of. Food is great, well cooked and good variety. Drinks service can be slow. Overall we enjoyed the hotel and would go again once our son is older. Just be prepared to play the sunbed game.More

first class holiday

This was our first all inclusive. The experience and all the staff was nothing short of excellent. The kids clubs and entertainment was second to none and with a child who has special needs he fitted in and was looked after and included through out the stay. If you are thinking of going, go. You will not be disappointed Looking at re booking for next year. The Malcolm FamilyMore

Brilliant Hotel

We got back yesterday after 2 weeks in this wonderful hotel. We arrived and were greeted by friendly reception staff. As we arrived late evening the bar staff made us toasties. Our room was on the 8th floor via plenty lifts and you never have to wait long to get one. The rooms were lovely with free wifi if you apply for a free spring card on their website that is waiting for you when you arrive. The whole hotel is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The food is excellent, so good that we never went out to eat while there. Breakfast have the best omelettes and crepes made to order along with a huge choice of cooked and continental, fruit and pastries etc etc etc. lunch and evening dinner again had so much choice with fish and meat freshly cooked as you wait. There was always various potatoes, rice pasta and chips along with plenty variety of veg and stews etc.there was even a buffet area especially for the kids. Deserts were plentiful and too good but there was always fresh fruit and cheeses etc we even enjoyed a chocolate fountain. At the pool bar there was always chips, burgers, hotdogs, make your own toasties etc. You were never hungry and the food was all excellent. The all inclusive drinks package ran from 10am - midnight and there was a huge choice of drinks to choose from with many international brands, cocktails etc. There were 2 pools which were spotlessly clean with a water slide that was always manned by a lifeguard. Pinky Carlos and the animation team worked hard day and night and provided activities and lots of fun for the adults and kids that wanted to join in. They certainly made our holiday fun. Springy world looked great for the younger children. I would recommend a massage from Rob from Healing Hands. There is also a very good beauty salon/hairdressers in the hotel. Reserving of sun beds was a bit of a problem but if you wanted to get up at 6am for a sun bed then that is up to you. We always got beds together as there was plenty of them but I do think if they are not used then the towels should be removed so others can use them. Getting drinks in the evenings when the entertainment area was full was a bit of a problem but they worked a good system and you just had to order them before you finished your previous one to save the wait . The hotel is very central and there are lots of lovely bars and restaurants nearby. The Safari Centre shopping centre and Hard Rock Cafe is a 5 minute walk away with excellent shopping and everywhere around is so clean and tidy with plenty to see and do. I could say so many other good things about this hotel and area but to cut a long story short This is the best all inclusive hotel we have ever been to and we would certainly go back.More

Bitacora Hotel - Bit of Heaven!

Waiting on our transport to leave this wonderful hotel and taking the time to reflect on our 2 weeks here. The rooms were big and spacious, they were cleaned every day. The food was always varied and plentiful with a excellent choice for our son who can be fussy. But what really made this little gem of a hotel sparkle was the animation team. Carlos, Pinky, Adriano, Javi, Yaya, Alva, and not forgetting Sonia who always had hugs and kisses for our son. These guys went out of there way to make sure our PROFOUNDLY deaf child had the most amazing time. He was able to take part in every activity available for his age group because they were willing to take the extra time to explain and include him. Stayed at other hotels in different resorts and never had this level of commitment from the animation team. The evening entertainment was varied and the visiting acts were hit or miss but the animation shows were excellent and always fun to watch. I would recommend this hotel to everyone I know and will definitely be back. Tears are flowing from us all as we write this review, so sad to be going home. More
