great time at the Lagotel

We have just returned from ten days at the Lagotel.I have to say,we were impressed at the price and value for money this hotel offerred.don,t take any notice of moans about the get what you pay for,as far as we were concerned the food was fine, hot and plenty of variety. There were some strange combinations some nights but you could always find some thing to eat.Our previous holiday was a five star cruise so we are not easliy satisfied! The hotel was clean but basic, the furniture in the lobby could do with an update, and please, please improve the wi-fi.its expected nowadays as we like to check on e-mails etc.we thought the facilites were very good ,pools etc.cheesy entertainment in evenings but o.k.some charges I thought were a bit much,i.e 25 euros for a safe, also no tea making facilites in the room. Please bear in mind that this hotel is at the very back and beyond,it took me fifteen minutes to walk to the beach. There is a courtesy bus but this can be full on return and you then have to walk or wait half an hour for another one.Overall, good hotel, helpful staff, great value, could just do with a little improvement.More

Great Holiday

Just back from a week’s holiday and what a great time we had. Room was basic but clean and had a full sized fridge in it for keeping water etc nice and cool; there was also a TV with a good selection of channels. A bit of advice we were given is that you can select the language on some of the channels and change it from Spanish to English. Staff was pleasant and the entertainment at night was excellent and varied from Chinese acrobats to tribute artists. There was a good selection of food and you could always find something to enjoy. The only slight criticism was that the food could be quite cool at times but there were some microwaves on hand it you needed to heat it up. I used it to heat up the lovely rice pudding at night. As well as the restaurant there were snacks provided during the day at the main bar outside. This included hotdogs, hamburgers and chips. You just helped yourself and added salad etc as required. There were also small tubs of ice cream available from 12noon to 6pm. There was a good selection of drinks and you just helped yourself to soft drinks, including slushies which were so refreshing in the heat. There was also beer on tap and all of this made it so much easier to get your drinks and saved a lot of queuing. Staff was on hand at the main bar inside to serve other alcoholic drinks as needed including cocktails. There are two sets of pools at the hotel, the first has a large pool with varying depths and a children’s pool. This is where the animation team would ask if you wanted to join in any of the activities during the day which included pool, archery and darts. If you wanted a quieter holiday you could just cross over the quiet road to another set of 3 pools again including a children’s pool. Be warned that the pool is extremely cold where you first take a dip but really refreshing once you get used to the temperature. Was quite amusing watching people go into the pool for the first time as some of their expressions were hysterical. I would recommend a visit to the local beach as the sand is lovely and the sea is very clear and you can wade out for some distance before it gets too deep. There are two ways to get to the beach, one is by the free bus which operates from the hotel or you can walk, which takes only about 10 minutes. There are plenty of shops in Playa de Muro and it was very enjoyable going for a stroll at night before going for a late dinner. Be warned that there are mosquitoes about and I think that they would have been a lot more had it been high season. Finally all I can say is that we would certainly go back.More

Potential to be great but a number of issues prevent this

Let me start by saying for what we paid, I think we got a fairly good deal. This hotel is one of the most (if not the most) reasonably priced all inclusive 3 star hotels in the area. On arrival, the staff were very friendly and if you arrive after dinner then they offer you some snacks in the dining room which is a nice touch. When we checked into our double room, the first thing we noticed was how spacious it is. The room is very large with big balcony and it includes a fridge and a flat screen TV with selection of British channels if you need them. The beds (2 singles) were average – a little uncomfortable and they only give you one pillow each. We asked for extras and it took a day for them to be given to us. The thing which I was surprised that other reviews hadn’t mentioned is the lack of cleanliness of the room. At a quick glance at night time the room looked spotless, however when waking up in the morning we noticed that the floors were actually quite dirty – there was dust collected in the corners and hairs all over the floor, particularly in the bathroom. The surfaces were also dusty and there was leftover sand from the previous guests on one surface. I do have quite high standards of cleanliness, but even my partner thought it was a bit disgusting (his standards aren’t quite as high as mine!) We complained to reception about this and were told that the maids would sort it the following day, which meant we had to use the shower with other people’s hairs in it – lovely!! Just to make it clear, I have stayed in plenty of 3 star hotels so I know what to expect and do not in any way expect it to be 5 star perfect standards. However, cleanliness is something that is important in a hotel and this is an issue that is so easy to sort. We saw the maids clean the following day and all they do is bring a dirty mop in (which has been used on god knows how many rooms previously) and briefly wipe round the floors, change towels and make the bed. After they had been in the room, there were even more hairs on the floor that they had bought in. They also did not change the glasses or give us new bedding at all throughout our one week stay. A few other issues we had with the room were the air conditioning and the hot water. It almost felt we were on rations with both. The air con was so temperamental – it would work sometimes and not other times. The hot water would also occasionally just go half way through a shower (like you had used it up and there was no more left!) There were also some days when the sink/bday would start bubbling with water coming up from the drains when one of us was having a shower and this horrendous smell of sewage would come through – not overly pleasant!!! Putting these things aside, the rest of the hotel was very good for a 3 star. The food was plentiful and varied (aside from the deserts which stayed the same almost every night). The all inclusive drinks were also varied; you can get wines and beer on tap and spirits/cocktails from behind the bar. The entertainment was good and there was something for all ages. There are a number of swimming pools and lots of space. As others have said, there is a problem with people littering and as a result there are wasps everywhere. They could do with someone going round and cleaning up once in a while to avoid this happening. The hotel is next to a lovely lake and I would definitely recommend requesting a room with a lake view. The nearby beach is amazing and only a 10min walk away, or you can get a free shuttle. Alcudia port is around an hours walk away or you can get a taxi (approx €8) or bus (approx €2). Alcudia old town is only slightly further than the port. Both are lovely and well worth a visit. Our biggest issue was probably on the final day. We had requested late check out due to having a late night flight and the reception staff had told us that our room was booked but that they had one room available down the road which was not part of the main hotel complex. We didn’t have a problem with this as we assumed it would still be the same standard, so we paid out €35 and went on our way. When we got to the building it genuinely looked derelict. There were windows smashed outside and when we got into the building it was literally infested with ants. They were absolutely everywhere. Our room was also infested with ants, was tiny, had an unsecure window and had no air conditioning. Now, I know we only needed it for half a day, however to charge a guest €35 for what I wouldn’t even rate a 2 star room is a bit unfair. I just think we could have at least had a warning beforehand. We decided we wouldn’t accept the room and would instead use the luggage room and communal showers. When we went back to reception and explained the situation they didn’t even apologise! Therefore I feel like this hotel has potential to be a 4 star but there are a number of factors which meant that in my opinion, it does not deserve more than a 3 star rating. PS Whatever you do, don’t forget your mossi spray!! You will not escape them unless you are very very lucky!!More
