2nd visit

Last year we stayed at Sandy Beach for one week and liked it so much that we returned for two weeks, and upgraded our room, this year. From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the friendly and helpful reception staff you are made to feel like a valued customer. We contacted the hotel in advance and asked if it would be possible to have a room near one of the 3 naturist terraces as we made good use of them last year. We were delighted to find that our room could not have been nearer and, once again, we made good use of these facilities and loved the improvements made in this area since we were last there. The robes and slippers provided came in very useful and we loved the bowl of fresh fruit waiting for us in our room. The espresso maker was an added bonus but, as we also wanted to make the odd cup of tea, a kettle and mugs was put in our room within a short time of us requesting it. The beds were very comfortable and I especially liked the memory foam pillow as I have similar at home. The whole place is spotlessly clean. The pool, although not big, is nice to use and the pool man is very obliging in finding you a sun lounger, pads etc. We also liked the fact that people were not allowed to reserve sun loungers before 9am although there were some very sad people queuing up every morning from around 8.30am. No matter what time of day we arrived at the pool the hard working pool man always found a couple of loungers for us. The service at the pool bar can be a little slow but you aren't going to die of thirst for having to wait a little while and the staff there do their best to serve as fast as possible. The food is good and there is plenty of choice even for the most picky eater and the waiting staff are, mostly, on top of serving drinks, clearing tables etc in the quickest time. Almost all of the staff seem to be able to switch between several languages at the drop of a hat which is more than you can say about hotels in the UK where, these days, you are lucky if they can even actually speak English. Congratulations must especially go to the waiter in the entertainment lounge who works his socks off trying to keep everyone supplied with drinks, particularly in the half hour before the 11pm drinks curfew for the all-inclusive guests. The guests here do seem to be mostly German with British visitors being the second most prolific, but we did meet some French and Swedish couples whilst we were there. The hotel is perfectly placed for a 5 minute stroll to the beach or a 10 minute stroll to the Yumbo centre with its bars, shops, clubs, restaurants and to catch a local bus. We've been to Gran Canaria 5 times and stayed at Sandy Beach for the last 2 visits. Now we wouldn't stay anywhere else. In our opinion the best hotel in Playa del InglesMore

Great hotel with brilliant food

Just returned from two weeks at the Sandy Beach in Playa del Ingles Five star food but only four star service - in places. To be fair, I can see that the hotel wants to provide you with all the relaxation you need on holiday but the waiter service in the restaurant areas was a bit "hit and miss", especially on the first week of our holiday. This improved on the second week, as far as I could see joining in with the return of the manageress. A black coated waiter took your order and left two slips on the table: one, a receipt; and the other, an order to be picked up by a member of staff wearing a yellow waistcoat. If you did not "catch their eye" you could have been left waiting. On a number of occasions, friends met whilst on holiday mentioned getting their drinks towards the end of their meal, especially if placed at the back of the terrace - and this was not indicative of any nationality. . Plates were cleared and tables were set very quickly by the yellow waistcoated friendly staff. The actual pool bar was where a fault lay. You could be left "mid-order", ie order being placed and awaited, when a 'tipping' holidaymaker was given preferential treatment and you were left waiting. I believe this was expressed in a former review. A formal complaint at the time was taken seriously by an under-manager. The girls at breakfast time remembered if you wanted tea or coffee brought to the table. The bar service at the restaurant bar and in the saloon bar was excellent and friendly staff remembered your drinks. The nightly entertainment could have been better. As said, the food was five star: steaks and other meat grilled before you; a carvery area; fish freshly cooked; any number of other hot dishes on a nation inspired nightly rota (Swiss night, Austrian night, Canary night etc); lovely cooked vegetables; many different pasta dishes; fresh salads; desserts galore - you name it, they had it. The chefs were working hard continuously. You could not fault the food at all.. Smoking and non-smoking tables were far too close together if eating outside. It was not widely made known that you could eat in a non-smoking area inside. The maid service was excellent. Clean towels every day and bed linen changed regularly. We travelled with Jet 2 and after a very nice welcome by the hotel were placed on Floor One which did not have a view at all, looking out onto a busy and loud road but we were only in our room to shower and change and sleep so this was not a problem for us. We met other people who had complained and the management had changed their rooms without a problem. Our room, overall, was large and our bathroom had a walk in shower and the force of water was great. A small kettle along with two mugs was in every room and you left your order of tea or coffee with Reception and it was placed in your room for the next morning. There was a flat screen TV which had many channels. (This developed a fault while we were there and on Reception being contacted it was looked at more or less right away. It was more a service fault rather than an appliance fault and we couldn't get Sky news but we did have BBC news and other channels.) The first two floors were the original hotel, I think, and other floors had been added on. The remaining rooms looked out onto the pool which I thought was a little small for such a large hotel, but the water temperature was just right. Tile work was going on around the pool and on the smoking section of the sun lounging terrace whilst we were there. Mattresses are brought to your sunbed every time you leave down your pool towel and the towels are provided daily for a deposit of €10 per person and your money is refunded on production of your receipt at checkout. The safe costs €2 per day. We managed to keep our room until pick up at 6pm as it was not being used straight away and were not charged for this privilege. It is the hotel's policy not to charge you if the room is available - and this was a first for us, so top marks there! There are shower rooms available with clean towels if you have a late pickup and are unable to keep on your room after checking out time of 12 noon. We had a lovely holiday.More

You Won't Be Disappointed!

I travelled to the Sandy Beach on the 6 Oct accompanied by my wife, daughter and her baby and grown up Son. On arrival at reception we were greeted by a lovely young lady on reception with a beautiful smile and very friendly welcome. For me the staff here we're exceptional in their friendly approach to guests and we're professional and very efficient in making our stay pleasant. The rooms we had were excellent having been recently refurbished. Some work on rooms appears to be ongoing with very little effect on our stay. Rooms include for me the necessary kettle and facility for tea/coffee, fridge and a very good Shower. The restaurant tends to get busy and if you have a large party, it can be difficult sometimes getting seated. The staff make every effort to seat you quickly and efficiently. The quality of the food for me was excellent and I was never disappointed by what was on offer. You can experience different international cuisine and still get your English breakfast. Again the waiters/waitresses and maître D's were outstanding and very pleasant. The pool is excellent and is maintained by the pool man who succeeds in holding off the masses seeking to reserve beds by placing towels prior to 8.45. A very good system not to everyone's liking. In summary this hotel is excellent. It's reputation will stand on the professionalism and friendly approach of its staff which was outstanding. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.More

wow what a great hotel

Just returned from a week at the sandy beach, what a great hotel nothing too much trouble for the staff (especially if you tip them). The food was top notch, I could not fault it. Met some really nice people there who I hope will remain friends for a long time. A lot of Germans at the hotel who come back again and again and the food catered for everyone. We would definitely go back there.More

Great Hotel

Just returned from a weeks stay. Very good hotel. Location excellent. A few minutes to the fantastic beach, (through the restaurant and down the back stairs). Here you will also find bars, restaurants and shops. Two sunbeds and an umbrella cost 7.50 euros. You can walk all the way round to Meloneras, about an hours walk. Just be aware there is a huge naturist part to go past, but it really isn't a big deal. The Yumbo Centre is also only a five minute walk. Here you will find a casino, shops, restaurants, bars etc. Now back to the hotel. Having stayed at their sister hotel in Lanzarote in May, I can honestly say that the excellent standard of food and service was exactly the same. The variety is amazing and of a high standard. Anyone who moans about the food is just a moaner!!! My thanks and compliments to all the kitchen staff who work tirelessly to put on an excellent spread every meal time. Thanks and compliments to all the other staff, who work so hard, are so helpful and polite and who cannot do enough to help. Particular thanks to Paco in the evening for being an excellent barman, and to Jose the evening waiter, who not only kept us topped up at every opportunity, but was always smiling and joking and seemed to really enjoy his job. Special thanks to Eva Karg, who honoured my request for a higher room as we had been given a ground floor room at the previous hotel. We were given room 712, which had an excellent view of the pool. Again, the lovely touch of a bottle of Cava left in our room on our anniversary. This hotel really goes that extra mile. The rooms are a good size, with a separate dressing area, with plenty of storage for your clothes etc. The rooms are being re-furbished at the moment. My only little gripe is the fact that smoking is allowed during mealtimes on the terrace, and is very hard to get away from, although there are a few non-smoking tables. Other than that, another excellent stay at a Seaside hotel.More
