Lovely hotel but a little disappointed

We arrived and were given a glass of fizz which is a nice touch and was appreciated after a long day travelling. First impressions were good. A very friendly lady at reception who while professional was still very warm and welcoming. I had phoned prior to request a ground floor room with a view. Sadly the room was quite high ( 302) at one part the balcony is very low which meant I couldn't let my children on it. Also above the childs bed was an unlocked window with at least a 50ft drop ( we had to have the children's beds and they had the main room) we paid nearly £4000 for one week and to sleep on a child's sofa type bed wasn't great. However if you are a couple this room is perfect, the balcony/terrace is wonderful and the rooms lovely ( u have to request tea and coffee ) The food is excellent, such a wide choice and a lovely setting. Slight let down that once my chicken ( from the grill ) was very under cooked as twice was my husbands fish ( grey with juices ) all from same chef. The guy who carved the meet is lovely, in fact apart from one drinks waiter who's a miserable old man the staff are very very nice. The lady who does the eggs and the older pool guy is very warm, friendly and always had a warm smile for all. Big let down with children's entertainment. This is no reflection on the lady who does it but the fact it's well set away from the bar area with no relaxing place to enjoy a drink. Its not really a family hotel as the children were bored in the evening, most nights there were no more than six children ( probably because the parents didn't want to sit at the games area ) The entertainment was very old fashioned. We dont mind a bit of cheese but even we couldn't handle more than 20 mins, but the older Germans seemed to love it which brings me on to the next thing. I'd read here Germans are favoured but hoped it wasn't the case, sadly we found it to be. Once waiting to order a coffee four Germans arriving after mr were served before me, resulting in me ordering a gin because I was so annoyed. This happened a few times. Hotel is mainly full of Germans over 50 who have yet to learn bar or sunbed etiquette and who are not very friendly ( never retuned a smile ) Like I said the hotel is lovely, clean with very friendly staff. The food was well above average ( when cooked through ) but for us it was too quiet and found our fellow guests all quite miserable, which I understand is not the hotels fault. Also the resort is like an old peoples home. We wouldn't return but would use the hotel chain if in a different area possibly due to the food and the hotel was really spotless. Once again I can't stress how good of choice for food and very good quality More

Family Holiday

We have recently returned from a half term break. There were 9 of us including 3 children. We chose all inclusive. Firstly I'd say the cleanliness of the hotel and rooms are a very good standard. The food is buffet style every lunchtime and evening. The food is good quality and very fresh, however the buffet became a bit monotonous for us after 7 days. The wine on the all inclusive is drinkable. We chose to have G&T's and vodka and lemonade etc. As a party of 9 we were struggling to find a table to enable us to sit together. The restaurant manageress was very understanding and agreed to reserve a larger table for us on the condition we sat down by 6.40pm. As it was not normal hotel policy to reserve tables for a party of less than 10 we were extremely grateful to her. The sun bed policy I did have an issue with. Queuing at the steps waiting for the tape to be released at 9am then running along the poolside throwing your towels on sun beds I found a little undignified not to mention a stressful start to each day. There is a sign reminding guests that poolside beds are meant for families with children under 12 years. We had 2 five year olds and a 3 year old who needed constant supervision in the water. There were many older couples around the pool clearly without children who used the beds all day. There is a raised terrace area with more than enough sun beds but obviously not pool side. My running skills improved as the week went on and fortunately we managed to get beds, I would have been annoyed if we hadn't managed to as the children lived in the pool all day. Having said that about the beds I don't know of a better alternative. As we all know they will be reserved at the crack of dawn which also adds stress. But I think it's good to be aware of this particular method before arrival. Use of the safe was €3 per day but there was free reasonably good wifi covering the rooms and outside areas. Overall I would say a holiday at this hotel you are assured of clean rooms and surroundings. Fresh food and extremely friendly staff. We would return as a family as we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.More

Relaxing winter sun, friendly staff, excellent food

Just come back from 1 weeks holiday at Sandy Beach. Reception friendly and attentive, easy check in on arrival. Hotel is nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Stayed in standard room with extra bed for our daughter, very spacious, clean and has everything you need. Only thing is supply kettle, spoon, cups but no tea or coffee! Pool a lot smaller than looks online, however nice and warm water. Restaurant outside a bit cramped and not enough outdoor dining tables, indoor restaurant feels bit cheap décor, tables, lighting. Food very good lots of choice but in comparison to Jameos Playa not very well layed out serving areas so can get a bit conjested when busy. Staff friendly, especially poolside life guards and chaps who give towels, sunbed cushions nothing any trouble a true credit to hotel. Close to nice beach, very built up area but if want some all year round sun then worth visiting.More

5 Star service, 5 star food, 4*+ hotel

We returned to the Sandy beach and upon arrival we was so glad we had made this choice. We was given a glass a fizz upon arrival and checked in promptly. We had a junior suite on the 6th floor, which is more spacious that the standard rooms. The balcony had views of both the sea and the sunbathing terrace. The room itself was a good size with twin beds, a large wardrobe, bathroom with both bath and separate shower cubicle. In the lounge area there were two chairs, a coffee table, fridge, large tv and another separate area for hanging clothes, storing suitcases and an expresso machine. Just request teabags and coffee if you prefer as kettle in room aswell. We found the beds a little hard and for me a bit too short, but fairly standard for Gran Canaria. That said the pillows were nice and plump. I guess the only downsidie to this larger corner room was the aircon was located in the hall and kept the lounge area cool, but not the adjacent sleeping area. That is the only negative comment about the room. The all inclusive offering was probably the best I have ever had, you had so much choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were spoilt for choice. Omelettes were prepared fresh, as was steaks, salmon fillets. Great choice of cooked joints, salads, vegetables and a different theme every night. The food was always piping hot, which doesn't happen with a lot of buffets. Service was really efficient and having a bottle of wine with dinner each evening just added to the enjoyment. The pool bar open from 11-11, was very efficient and it was great to have drinks before and after dinner or even post a dip in the pool. The staff were always happy to help you. I guess my one gripe and this is not specific to this hotel (although the hotel could tighten up their policy) is every day certain people (I'll let you guess which nationality!) would put their towels on the terrace sunbeds (not pool area) at 8am, picking the best spots and then not returning until at least 11.30 to actually use them. In the whole week I did not see all sunbeds taken, there were always spaces. Overall a fantastic hotel, great service, great food. Good mixture of clientele and we will definately staff at the Sandy Beach next time we return to Gran Canaria.More
