Seaside Hotel Sandy Beach

As the name suggests, this place is right by the beach. It’s also got a rather stylish pool.

This chic hotel is 2-minutes' from the beach and the centre of Playa del Ingles. There’s a first-rate buffet restaurant, 3 bars and all sorts of sports, from scuba diving to tennis.

The main pool is heated so it’s good for year-round swimming. And 6 nights a week, live entertainment is put on including dancing, cabaret and live shows.

Pleasant stay with a few little niggles

Stayed at this hotel with family (8 of us in total) and on the whole this was a pleasant stay. Before we arrived, we emailed the hotel requesting adjoining rooms and this was granted to us and we had 3 rooms next to each other on the 2nd floor - 2 of which we're adjoining which really helped when getting the kids ready! When we arrived the reception staff we're helpful and the porter was more than keen to handle all our luggage and bring it to our rooms and as we arrived late, there were plates of cold food in our rooms for us. Positives: - the pool area is nice and clean and the lifeguards are very friendly and we're always interacting with my children - the quality of the food is good, decent selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner and varied theme nights too - some of the staff are very friendly and would make a fuss of the kids - kids club animation team worked hard to make the activities enjoyable and kids loved being rewarded with t- shirts when they won their events - rooms were always clean and have sky tv in them, also our room had a separate area for luggage which was very helpful - free wi-fi all over the hotel - large games area with table tennis, French boules, pool table, football table, air hockey and darts is great for kids and adults. The astro turf tennis court is great too and has 2 small sized football goals on there. Negatives (niggles) Sun bed situation - you will need to get up early if you want to get a sun bed near the children's pool. I queued for an hour every day to ensure that we got one but it is very competitive out there!!! The lifeguards will not allow anyone onto the pool area until it had all been cleaned and all staff have moved away, then they wave you on ( but be aware there are 6 different queues all around the pool, so even if your at the front of your queue, you still need to be quick!! One morning I went for a bed on the front row near the pool and had a German woman throw her towels at me as these were beds she usually took!! Also be aware of Germans ignoring the queues and just wandering up to the top - on a couple of occasions I told them to go back to the end of the queue and on one occasion one of them pretended not to speak English and ignored me, but then was later speaking English - so be strong if you want a decent bed!! Pool bar service - the lady who works in the pool bar regularly is excellent but there is one male worker in particular who ignores English people and will always server Germans first, this happened to us on a number of occasions and we had to wait sometimes up to 20 minutes to get served, and on one occasion he told me I had ordered too many drinks, even though I only ordered 4 for the family! Restaurant - you are certainly favoured if you are German and wish to sit outside, there is lots of smoking taking place on the outside tables which you have to walk through to get your meal. Also noticed that you don't get a spoon with your cutlery and only one set of knife and fork if sat inside but a full set if sat outside. Also there is a limited selection for children and no small cutlery or cups for them. Finally, be aware of of the serving spoons on the buffet dishes, these can become really hot and on a couple of occasions made it unbearable to touch! Evening entertainment - bit hit and miss, the evening entertainment area is quite small, so if you want a chair with a view I suggest you getting there about 9:30 as come 10:00 when it starts, there are no seats left. Some of the acts are good but some nights it's poor - karaoke and quiz nights in particular - and the karaoke was not kid friendly as songs with explicit lyrics were being sung! The hotel is in a good location and within 5 minutes your either on the beach, at the yumbo shopping centre or the kasbah shopping centre and we enjoyed being able to walk out at night before having our evening meal. This was a really nice holiday which was enjoyed by all, and if the niggles could be improved, it would certainly improve the experience.More

Stuclarke9,

Great return visit

Currently having a great time at this hotel, and for us its the first time we have ever returned to the same hotel in over 25 years !!! We had such a great time last year we just had to come back. Most of the recent reviews are very accurate, the staff, food, rooms, cleaniless, drinks, restaurant, pool bar, etc are all excellent. Yes if you want a sunbed at poolside you will need to queue a little before 9 am but I just took a book down and read for a few minutes (20 minutes) otherwise you will find sunbeds further away from the pool or after lunch some of the poolside beds become available. A mixture of nationalities here probably 50/60% German 20/25% British with rest being mainly Europeans of various nationalities. Last year we had an upper floor room with a good view of the pool but to be honest it really doesn't matter as no one spends much time in their room except to sleep ? This year we have taken a lower floor room (3rd floor) and are perfectly happy, garden view only but still same standard of room and much easier and closer to the pool and restaurant. Our standard room also included fridge, flatscreen tv, bacony, changing room, safe, phone, decent large walk in shower, cleaned daily, towels changed daily, shower gells etc changed daily. Just a little note re tv, read the TV instructions !!! and put it onto cable you will find sky movies family, BBC 1,2,3,4 I TV 1, CHANNEL 4, SKY NEWS, BBC 24 NEWS plus a few other channels. Love the new poolside bar this year much bigger and much more Seating, makes a good outside area in the evenings. The pool is very safe for the children with lifeguards on duty from 9am. A good mix of ages but only probably 10% or so young children, so enough children for my 9 year to make friends with and play without having 100's of screaming kids at it all day . Free Wi Fi worked 24/7 all over the hotel. I do not smoke and yes the majority of the restaurant is outside and people are allowed to smoke in around 50% of the seating, also around the pool but I did not find this an issue at no point did I feel any of the areas smokey and no point did I find it irritating as a non smoker. This year we booked the holiday up separately and saved loads, hotel through booking.com paid in euros when we got here (so got a great exchange rate) flights through Norwegian airways flying from Gatwick cheaper and better than the other budget flights, pre booked taxi from the airport cost no more for 3 of us than the transfer bus but took a 3rd of the time (waiting at arrivals with our name on a sign) hand luggage only no need for big suitcases, light summer clothes only. Certainly will be back next summer if not before.More

Family holiday party of 3

Stayed for 11 night holiday with our 7 year old.We arrived late at night and received a warm welcome & speedy check in at reception, our room was made up lovely and had 3 plates of food waiting and wine.We had room 727 which overlooked the pool and had a sea view. All areas of the hotel are kept very clean, our room cleaned daily, the room had a separate walk in dressing room with wardrobe and lots of hangers, a large mirror with a plug socket which meant everything could be unpacked and cases stored away meaning there's plenty of room. Now to the sunbed issue, the number of sunbeds directly at the poolside are limited however there are plenty more sunbeds on a raised sun terrace to the side of the pool & bar, the only snag is that the pool is not visible if you have sunbeds in this area which meant I couldn't sit on the sunbed and keep an eye on my 7 year old in the pool, this just meant it wasn't as relaxing a holiday as I'd wished. The pool area is cleaned daily and then opened at 9am by which time a queue for the sunbeds has formed, if you're particular about where your sunbeds are you need to rise early and join the queue. The attendants by the pool are good at assisting you to find sunbeds too. We stayed on all inclusive basis which means drinks are available until 11pm anything consumed after this time you will have to pay for at check out. The hotel was very busy but the staff always found us a lovely table at meal times and the food was good with a lot of choice. There was a theme at the evening meal i.e France meant cassoulet, potato dauphinois. There is a large salad buffet, carvary, meat & fish cooked to order and selection of veg, sides and pasta, all very nice. Staff were very helpful and very friendly any requests dealt with hast. The hotel is situated very close to the beach, exit by lift or stairs at the side of the restaurant and it's a few minutes walk to the beach. Exit through reception and take the steps to the right of the hotel takes you to the Kasbah, head left about a 10 min walk and you're at the yumbo centre. Entertainment at night was varied, comprised of a band or duo then an act at 10pm after which the band would continue, some acts we saw included flamenco dancers, a magician and an acrobatic act. There is a mini disco earlier too, activities throughout the day were very low key so you're not hassled to join in or have staff on the mic shouting at you around the pool all day which you sometimes find on all inclusive. A better than average all inclusive hotel in a good location, offering a good family holiday but not over run by kids and popular with adults too. Would be happy to return.More

Better than expected

Fantastic hotel starting with the good reception upon arrival, greeted with champagne. We was on the bottom floor (3rd) by which we had read reviews advising us not to stay on this floor however we had no problems with it at all except a couple of nights the entertainment was quite loud and there were people running around causing some noise but this wasn't a problem for us particularly. The food and drink was brilliant, we could not get enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks during the day! The lady on the reception desk was exceptionally helpful. Quite a few Germans and very little British when we arrived but few more seemed to filter in towards the end of the week. Sun beds can be a problem unless you're prepared to queue at the pool side at 8.45 ready to leap onto a sunbed! Loved our stay and would definitely return! More

Amazing hotel and service, Just full of miserable unfriendly Germans

Great hotel in a great location. The food and cocktails selection is amazinggggggggg! Great service from the staff. Its a shame that this hotel is dominated by miserable unfriendly Germans, which spoils the atmosphere. Apart from that, an excellent hotel.More
