Spring Hotel Bitacora

The Spring Hotel Bitacora is a family favourite thanks to its A-star location and pool scene. Plus, it’s only minutes away from the shops, bars and restaurants of Playa de las Americas.

The Spring Hotel Bitacora’s main selling point is its location – the hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the beach and only a bit further from central Playa de las Americas.

Families have it made at this hotel. A new adventure playground opened its doors in 2013, and there are two pools and a buffet restaurant.

A Pleasant Stay

Arrived back home on Saturday after a very pleasant eleven day stay at this hotel. We were on the second floor and our room overlooked the street at the front of the hotel. We had not paid for a pool view so were quite content with what we were given. The room was quite spacious and contained a safe and a mini-bar/fridge. We were half board so had to pay for both of these. The fridge cost 1 euro a day to hire plus a 10 euro deposit which was refunded when the key was handed back in. The charge for the safe was 2 euros per day. Pool towels were for hire for 1 euro per towel then another euro each time you wanted to change it. If you don’t have one already I advise you to apply for a Spring Hotel loyalty card. You can apply for one via the internet. This entitles you to 15% discount on drinks in the restaurant and bar which will make quite a difference to your final bill as the drinks are quite expensive. It also gives you free wi-fi in your room. Wifi is free in the reception area with or without the card. There are lots English channels on the television. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from the sea and nicely placed between Los Cristianos and Adeje for nice long walks in either direction. The food was excellent with a good choice and variety. I found the hotel staff to be friendly, efficient and helpful. We watched the evening entertainment on several nights. Some of it was very good indeed (don’t miss the magician) and some not so good but that is generally the case with hotel entertainment. I had made the mistake of booking on half-term week and the hotel was packed. We arrived on the Tuesday and it was virtually impossible to get a sun-bed in the mornings until the following Saturday when some people went home. Despite the fact that the hotel states that sun-beds cannot be reserved we found that by nine o’clock in the morning they were nearly all covered in towels and some even remained empty for most of the morning which was rather annoying. There are two pools one of which was heated and was quite comfortable to swim in. All in all we had a lovely holiday. Other than nothing being done about the reserving of sun beds I only have one other gripe and that was the cost of a small bottle of water in the restaurant, 1.80 euros for a 330ml bottle that just about filled two small glasses. Even in the airport a 500ml bottle only costs 1.20 euros! This is a family hotel so if you prefer a quieter holiday choose the sister hotel to this one just over the road, The Vulcano which is equally as nice. My thanks to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.More

Helpful tips

We've been coming here every year or so for about 15 years so rather than repeat the good reports I'll try to give some hints. Room- as high as possible to see the sea. If you email the hotel to ask you will get a non committal reply but we usually get a fifth floor or above. Reception- friendly, good English, patiently respond to no doubt, the same questions daily. Helpful with wifi problems. Restaurant- buffet style, good variety of food, international including British. Plates cleared quickly by cheerful staff looked over by efficient charming maître d. Plenty of room if you go further back. Pool bar- annoying that snack bar closed at lunchtime so one has to use the restaurant and, if on AI eat too much! Pool area- plenty of sun beds and umbrellas but doesn't stop the dawn raiders with towels bagging their favourite spot! Pool- a little cooler than before, but still fine. Position- on the edge of Las Americas, with classy shops and a half hour walk to Los Christianos. Restaurants- plenty all round. Supermarket opposite and, rather incongruesly , a parade of British pubs about five minutes walk away. Plenty of other supermarkets and cheaper shops nearby. Transport- five minutes from bus stop, access to all parts of the island. However, taxis are so cheap. 6 euros to Los Christianos, including tip, same to centre of Las Americas. About 22euros to the airport which is reasonable considering that many tour companies charge for transfers and you don't have to go round and wait at other hotels on the way! Scams- one may possibly expect counterfeit tablets/ iPads to be sold in the main shopping street but to be shown a counterfeit Currys catalogue with the item at three times the price is going too far! NEVER BUY ON IMPULSE. CHECK TRIP ADVISER! Look forward to returning.More

Another great stay

Yet another great stay Food as always fabulous, good service at check-in and in the dining room, Very busy on the evening in bar area, again a special mention to Mohammed , lovely with everyone... You never don't see this guy not smile, he really is an asset to this hotel! Entertainment good, we hit the shows well this visit , catching the Beatles, enigma, queen and a good flamenco/Bollywood dance show as well as the Eagles tribute doing a mix of 60's-80's music, all good shows. Never used the pool this holiday as out and about but it looked really busy, Visited for a special birthday, and I had e.mailed ahead the hotel mentioning and with a request, after how often we haven visited this hotel I don't expect the royal treatment but maybe a bottle/some fruit in the room or something would have been a nice welcoming touch,More

Very Good Hotel - would be 'excellent' if pool was warmer

We stayed here during the Feb half term and thought the hotel was really good. We stayed Half Board and the food was excellent, the kids club and staff were really good and the family room was comfortable and clean. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful and the whole area was spotlessly clean. Also, there were plenty of sun loungers which is good given it was a busy half term week. My only gripe was that the pool could be warmer. You could not really stay in it for very long. They have two pools and one is heated but frankly they should turn the heating up a bit! We had great weather during the week too so it was a shame that the pool was not so welcoming. Overall though a very good and well run hotel.More

Nice hotel, great for kids

Bitacora is a nice, clean hotel, we enjoyed our stay. There are more stylish and modern hotels in Tenerife, but we got a good value for our money. Our room was a good size, there was the inevitable waterdamage in the bathroom, but I'm yet to see a hotel room in the Canary islands without one. Pool area was nice, we allways found sunbeds. Our children, five and nine years of age, really loved the playground. I have three suggestions for the hotel, the first is that you really should serve real coffee, not just nescafe. This was the only reason I missed home. I do like it when i get a pot of coffee to my table at breakfast. Second is that the restaurant is quite noisy. Could there be a way to organize the handeling of dishes outside of the restaurant? The third suggestion is for the animation team. My children liked the mini disco, but because they don't speak english or spanish they had trouble understanding when the minidisco ended. Especially after giving out prizes, nice for those who won, boring for those who didn't participate and sad for those who lost, it would be nice to end the mini disco with doing something together, a song, a rime or even one more shout. (BTW kids are enjoying themselves even when they are not shouting) mini disco was a lot of fun, but then just faded away rather than ended with a bang.More
