Overall reasonable holiday
IFA Catarina is situated on the doorstep of Gran Canarias beautiful Maspalomas sand dunes which is a must see! It is also on the doorstep on playa del Ingles gay strip so you must be open minded to all sexualities as IFA Catarina is a popular choice. The hotel has had a modern refurbishment and rooms are of a great quality and are spacious, clean with air con. No fridge though which would have been ideal for bottled water and after sun lotion. Staff are generally friendly and accommodating however the odd daytime cleaners in the general areas who made you feel that you were an inconvenience to their cleaning put a slant on the general feeling. The bar staff made up for this though who were always positive and served with a smile. Mealtimes were over complicated for the all inclusive customer... If you were all inclusive then you were given a wristband to wear which is the usual done thing. Here though at dinner you had a wristband, then you had to provide your room card too where you were given a piece of paper to sit down with.... Then you had your dinner drink order written on the piece of paper where you then had to hand the piece of paper in on your exit! A simple wristband would have been sufficient for the all inclusive customer in my opinion! Drinks in the evening was another odd situation as you could only ask for 2 drinks at a time so a family of 4 would need 2 members to go up. This was to save queuing time apparently, however the table service slowed the bar serving process up entirely! They should lose the table service and use these staff behind the bar serving... that way there would be little queuing! The animation team work hard to entertain all ages with the majority of the team speaking 4-5 different languages fluently. However the programme is very dated and the evening miming dance displays are something that can only be described as an entertainment model taken from the 70's. The food is what you expect from an all inclusive hotel with the chefs doing their very best to cater with the budget they have to work with. There is a variety to choose from however it's the same variety everyday so don't expect any themed nights here. The last thing to add is the way the hotel is situated, the pool area and sun loungers are cut in so you have to wait until around 11:00 for the sun to climb over the top of the hotel. By 15:00 the sun is disappearing again over the landscape so you will have to move several times throughout the day to get a days sunbathing. The pool is advertised as 2 pools where it is technically 1 with a pool hut in the middle of it. It is dirty so don't swallow too much of the pool water. Don't take any balls or inflatables either as these will be prohibited under the strict guard of the lifeguards. This is for health and safety reasons apparently but it's allowed when the animation team want to use them! Ohh swimming in the pool under the influence of alcohol during a foam party is allowed though so not all bad. A good week away on the whole with guaranteed good weather here in the Canary Islands so a week is a good time here.More

Great hotel very clean, great pool area to relaxes around. Gardens are the best I have seen. We have been twice to the hotel once in November and the in August, and we have to say great for family's in Aug and Adults in November. We did notice a massive difference in the quality of the food and the layout of it in August. we food it a lot better in November. Could do with a little more choice in August of food 2 week of nearly the same every day we did end up going out to eat. Also if you have a nut allergy as I have the ice cream area will not be for you as it was al over the other flavours and spoons mixed water not good really and the food area did have lots of cross contamination of food with nuts. It does state ask a member of staff if not sure and on more than one occasion the staff could not answer or did not understand if any in at all so limited the choice of food I had to eat. have to say food looked very nice could have been a little hotter and a little more allergy info on cards. well run dinning areas the staff over all are fine. In the evening around the bar area must say we go a chair and table once in 14 days so defiantly could do with more and only on bar large queue all the time in August and not enough waiter service 2 drinks at a time means all had to go so very big queues. two bars left shut not sure why but in the end we ended up just going out so for the two weeks all inc we paid for it was not worth it for us as we had to go out to eat because of mixed food with nuts all over and large wait at the bars. so as all inc not for us here next time. I would go again to the ifa Catarina but not all inc. its close to the dunes, beach and cita shopping area.More

Overall a nice hotel...
Just returned from a week stay in this hotel. The hotel was clean and the pool areas were immaculate too. Plenty of sunbeds but word of advice, if you want beds around the pool you will need to get up early to reserve these as by half 8 they are all gone. Me and my friend alternated the chore of getting up to reserve beds at 7.45! There is plenty of space within the pools as there are so many options. Considering we travelled in the summer holidays there was not a lot children either allowing a relaxing dip in the pool- the cold fountain is a must when the temperatures heat up! The restaurant always has plenty of variety at every meal although deserts are not great. The pool snack bar is limited and it takes a while to get used to the timings as they open and close throughout the day. Drinks on all inclusive were okay although the cocktails were out of a machine and were full of syrup despite a cocktail bar being advertised in the first choice brochure, so a little disappointed. They also stop all inclusive drinks at 11pm which is too early, but you can order 2 drinks per person so just stock up! Entertainment was good and the animation team were always full of energy making it enjoyable, the dj every night was good too, playing up to date tunes! The rooms are spacious and clean, although they did not offer a fridge for hire in the rooms instead we had a mini bar which took ages to work despite having a medical need for a fridge - we were not impressed that facilities for medical conditions were not available. Another thing that we didn't like about this hotel was that even though specific smoking areas were provided and no smoking signs displayed guests still smoked wherever they wanted to which is not a nice experience if you are a non-smoker or suffer with asthma, this was also happening on the sunbeds. Unfortunately you are close to other guests as there isn't much space to move the sunbed, we found some people to be terribly selfish and inconsiderate when smoking. Overall a pleasant stay at the IFA Catarina despite the problems. A wonderful location close to the beautiful sand dunes too ! More

Stayed at the Catarina 6 times 5 times half board and once all inclusive Modern large rooms with all amenities And large balcony Beautiful garden and very quiet at night Also have live terai meant if that's your thing Close to shops and night life The restaurant is show cooking with plenty of choice and you can sit inside or outside Loads of areas to sunbathe and not just round the pool , sometimes an issue with towels being put down early but apart from that a great hotel More
