great holiday

The staff are really friendly and helpful at all times. The room was adequate, the only problem with it was, that it was in the shade all day.The plus side to this is it was very peaceful as all the noise is poolside. The food was plentyful with huge salad and fruit section, these happen to be my own personal preference. The hot food selection was a little more limited. The big drawback at breakfast was that all the plates were cold even for eggs and bacon, I managed to find a microwave to heat up my breakfast plate. Playa Del Ingles is mainly a German resort, that includes the hotel. The surrounding area of shops and bars seemed to be just German clientele, with very little English spoken. The hotel pool area was filled up with towels on sunbeds before 8am, there were no people out there till after 10am or even later, plus there was a shortage of sunbeds and mattresses. This is a large hotel and needs more sunbathing facilities for the amount of people it is catering for. The nightly entertainment looked quite good, but we only managed to see one nights worth as again not enough seats for all the customers. There are beautiful gardens pools and walkways in the grounds with gardeners busy all day long keeping it all looking really good. The beach is a distance off, with a hike across sand dunes, thats why people stay in the hotels grounds. I wouldnt choose this area of Gran canaria again for a holiday, there are much nicer holiday resorts nearby.More

Well impressed. Couldn't help us enough!!!!!

Well, I cant praise the staff enough. We were given a room on the bottom floor on arrival. No view, requested to to moved. No room available until the following lunch time. We got a room with a pool view. Absolutely no problem at all for the reception staff to help us. The 3 staff I have spoken to on reception are very helpful. Thank you for making our visit a very enjoyable one. Room and food are great. You can see the work being carried out to improve the interior. Not a problem to us. We come to Gran Canaria to enjoy the sunshine, not to look at the carpets.More

Good Hotel

This is a good little Hotel , good location easy to walk to lots of restaurants nearby and the sand dunes , either a free bus to the beach or really cheap to get a taxi . The pool was freezing ! But we still braved it most days , sun up over pool area from about 10.45 in Jan and stayed til 6 . Usual good selection of food in the buffet , room clean and large , free wifi in the lounge bar . You do have to pay for pool towels and the safe but as long as you know in advance its no big deal . More

Nothing outstanding, but fine

My boyfriend and I spent a week over the New Year’s Eve in IFA Catarina. The first impression was not very positive. We had paid for All Inclusive, but one of the first information we got at the check-in was that if we wanted to take part in New Year’s Eve celebration, we had to pay 30 EUR/person extra (see more below). Moreover, we got a room with a quite small double-bed on the ground floor towards the street which was quite noisy. And the last drop was when my boyfriend was forbidden to enter the dining room for dinner as he wore half-long trousers and that’s against hotel rules for dinner. We tried to argue with the staff that we were there the first evening, we did not know that, and after 12 hours travelling we really didn't want to return through the whole hotel back to our room to change (as mentioned in some previous reviews, the hotel has 6 blocks and it can take pretty long time to walk to your room if you live in the furthest block). But the staff insisted and my boyfriend had to go and change. So my first recommendation: Check the hotel policies for dinner to avoid such unpleasant surprise at the entrance into the dining room! And one more advice: Do not forget both room cards with you for breakfast and dinner, otherwise you will not be allowed to enter! The cards are checked at the entrance. Another unpleasant surprise appeared when borrowing a pool towel. I can understand to pay 5 EUR deposit and maybe I can even understand a fee for changing the towel, but to pay 5 EUR deposit + 5 EUR renting fee + 1 EUR every time when you change the towel – that was surprising for all-inclusive hotel. So my third recommendation: Bring your pool towel with you or buy it in the hotel shop for 9 EUR. You pay just little bit more but you will have at least a nice souvenir. But I must also admit that the first impression has changed and at the end we were satisfied with our stay. After advice from our travel agent, we had asked for a room change, and we got absolutely great room just above the reception with a huge balcony (even with sun beds) into the garden/pool area. The room had 2 single beds (but not very comfortable mattresses), sofa, sofa table, writing table with a chair, a fridge, wardrobes, TV. Bathroom had a bathtub with shower, wash-basin with large mirror and hair-dryer (very old-fashioned one, but functioning). The food was typical All Inclusive food – great variety (hot meals, soups, salads, desserts), you can certainly chose, but nothing really outstanding. New Year’s Eve food was very good, though! Generally, we expected more sea food but there were evenings with sea foods. Wines, beer or sangria included in all-inclusive were nice. Maybe one more thing we did not like – one day we decided to go for a whole day trip and wanted to make some sandwiches with us. We asked the staff at breakfast if we could do so (there was information everywhere that it’s forbidden to take food out of the dining room or you have to pay 1 EUR for a piece of fruit). The waiter called the main restaurant manager who told us (in very bad English) that it was not possible, that we should have asked a day before and ordered that at the reception. Unfortunately, we did not know that so we stayed without lunch... (well, we bought some food on the way…). Maybe hotel could inform about a possibility of making lunch packages in their hotel info brochures. Regarding the New Year Eve’s celebration, it turned that we could go for dinner 18:00-20:00 and then have drinks in pool or main bar as all-inclusive guests for free, or pay 30 EUR/person and have access to buffet 20:30-1:00 in the main dining room, including drinks and some special entertainment. We decided for the first option, and had fun, actually. Even at the pool area, there was entertainment program, the hotel provided grapes (Spanish New Year’s Eve tradition) and champagne bottles for the midnight, and even some party kit for everyone. The DJ played dancing music and it was fun! The pool area was quite tiny, but we always found some empty sun beds. The pool was cold. The garden was well-maintained with palms, providing a really nice place for relaxation. The whole pool area and garden is well-against-wind protected so even it was quite windy and therefore cold outside, here it was ok to lay and take a sunbath. On the hotel roof, there is also nudist sunbathing area with a great view over the famous Maspalomas dunes.More
