4th stay, never disappointed
Just returned from a two week break, great hotel, decent food (although like most all inclusive's it can be a bit repetitive, but they do try hard to have different dishes each day) the snack bar by the pool is perfect, a great mixture here. At evening dinner I would highly recommend soup for starters as each day there are a choice of two which are really tasty. No complaints regarding quality of the food. Bar service and drinks are perfect and straight from the bottle - not watered down. Perfect for families or couples, kids and adult entertainment is outstanding compared to 5 star hotels I have stayed in. Francois is the entertainment manager and he really makes everyone's holiday to be honest, he is very funny and liked by all. (I did hear that he was leaving which would be a great loss for the hotel). Advice; pay for the air con as you will need it, visit the cita centre which is left out of the hotel and right on the first round about, the shops in here are so much cheaper than every where else, whether it's general shopping/or beers to keep in the room. Upstairs on the first floor at cita you will find Senzes massage centre which is the best massage centre on the island, well worth a booking and so so cheap. Make use of the free bottled water available from 11am - 11pm at the pool bar, a few bottles are always handy in the room. After the bar closes at 11pm jump in a taxi ( outside RIO on the right) and head to Yumbo, (3 euros in a cab) go straight to the first floor where you will find sparkles show bar, always top entertainment until about 2am. We stayed here for a week in March to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were sent a bottle of cava on ice to our room. The room was large, clean and comfortable and the hotel in a very good location. We used the coach to the beach on several occasions. The staff were excellent and very friendly and although the food wasn't the best we have had there was so much on offer we never went hungry. The English were in the minority but we did not find this a problem. All in all we had an enjoyable week.More

We stayed in IFA CATARINA in February! We are a couple that travel a lot, age ca 55. We will never recommend this hotel to anyone. Bad cleaning, housekeeping. Crowdie, all sunbeds occupied before 08oo in the morning, and the pool bar staff was so slow that we went outside hotel for refreshments, we was waiting and waiting... Unfriendly staff cleaning rooms (if they cleaned). Food we did not try, when we saw the rest, we went out for meals, even breakfast. The only positive was the roof, where you could sun bath nude... NOT RECOMENDED FOR ANYONE USED TO TRAVEL.More

A very enjoyable holiday!
My boyfriend and I have just returned from a two week stay at Ifa Catarina and overal, we rate the hotel as very good and would definitely recommend to others. We travelled through Thomson/ First choice and our rep was name Dobrin. He was a very friendly and informative man happy to help and show us the hot spots on the map; places we wouldn't have discovered on our own so it's worth speaking to your rep, especially if you're like us and would rather skip the rep's welcome meeting in order to seek your first bit of holiday sun! There is a convenience store opposite the hotel called Press QR International. We found this shop to be much cheaper than the Spar stores down the road. The entertainment team at the Hotel consisted of three 20 something's: Srbo, Christina and Yanna who all worked so very hard to ensure all ages were kept entertained from morning till night. The standard activities took place daily apart from a Sunday including Aqua gym, Darts, Table tennis etc. The team weren't overbearing or pushy to get you to join in which was a welcome change from other hotels. In the evening they presented the Mini disco for the children followed by the Adult entertainment. During our stay we saw a Parrot show, Knife throwing, Bingo and Casino night and a Music quiz are just a few to name. My boyfriend and I are in our early 20's but every night there were all ages to be seen enjoying what was on offer. The team tried their very best with the material they had. It was very endearing to see Yanna one day, sat under a climbing frame playing snap with a minor. Music played throughout the day around the pool area with songs for all ages. Be warned however, if you didn't know the words to every Abba song before you're stay, you sure will by the end, just a little tedious! The food was delicious and a wide variety and choice daily. The waiters/ waitresses in the dinning room were so very efficient and polite, the moment you sat at a table you would be approached to ask your drinks order. They were just as prompt at taking used plates from the table. It is to be noted however, they do impose a strict policy of trousers to be warn at dinner by the males. The bar staff were just as friendly and efficient as the waiting staff and all dress very presentable. One of the bar staff even remembered our evening drinks orders which added that personal touch. The pool bar is open from 11am and all inclusive guests have the use until 11pm. We had to make sure that we took enough bottled water the night before every morning because it was such a long time to wait til 11.00 am to have water for the first time in the day. There is a snack bar around the pool area, where we managed to get a sunbed everyday, which opens 11.30-13.30 serving foods such as hot dogs, chips, pizza etc. Between 15.00-17.00 the Zuma bar opens offering ice creams in a range of flavours and slush puppies, also included in the all inclusive package and freshly made waffles for â¬2.00. Inside the hotel is a bar called Maddison which is the only place in the hotel where you can connect to the free wifi, other than this you can purchase wifi connection for â¬2.00 per day. Depending where you sit in this bar however, is to if your wifi actually connects or not which can be slightly frustrating, out of 14 days, my phone connected to wifi on just three of them. This was disappointing as I've stayed in 3 star hotels before which have offered a strong wifi signal throughout the building. The only football played on a projector in Maddison is German football, this was slightly frustrating as it meant we had to walk to a British bar down the road to watch any English games. Even though the hotel was largely dominated by German guests, this aspect wasn't catered for all nationalities. A massage therapy centre is located within the hotel as well as a fish pedicure spa and a small shop. There is a tennis coach named Gregg on site. My boyfriend played 1 hour's tennis with him for the fee of â¬33.00. My boyfriend said in terms of a tennis lesson in England, the price was about right. Tennis courts are also available for guests to hire. A games room was located by the pool bar with table tennis, air hockey and a grab machine. There are a few shops on the street as you turn left out of the hotel, also there is the beach which is in a 10 minute walking distance and a little further on there are bars, restaurants and souvenir shops to be found on the beach front's edge. If you take a taxi for around â¬6.00 to where the lighthouse is on the island, a wonderful strip stands with more 'upmarket' bars where the cocktails are priced around â¬7, where they were so delicious, we thought they were worth the money. It is a beautiful strip to watch the sunset from. A bus stop is just a two minute walk from the hotel taking you to a variety of destinations including the two main attractions on the island- Aqua Land and Palmitos Park. You can buy a combined ticket saving you money on both parks from your rep. The area of Playa del Ingles was fairly quiet and relaxed but this was probably due to start of season. Our room was large and clean, a pleasant place to sleep for two weeks. We were provided with shower gel, hand soap and shower caps. However, our room was 3 long corridors away with the lift only taking you up a flight of stairs so was hardly worth it. It was such a long walk to and from the room, I can't imagine the struggle for an elderly person if they were placed in this room. Using our pedometer one day the step count one way from our room to the pool was near 500 steps! Upon our departure, we were slightly disappointed to wait nearly 20 minutes to just check out. An influx of new arrivals descended but only 2 out of 4 computer points were staffed. Overal we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Catarina. It was clean, well presented and accommodating. We have left knowing the words to all the Spanish holiday songs and a boasting tan to reflect the glorious weather the island offers!More

Middle of the Road!!
Stayed there last year. Clean hotel but basic, nothing had the 'wow' factor. The food was good, plenty of choice. The drinks had more water then the pool. I mean even the coke was watered down, one night I had 6 double whiskeys just to 'get there'. One main bar next to the pool, though be prepared to queue for at-least 10 minutes. The only compensation was that the staff there are really hard working. My biggest gripe was the entertainment one night they put on a show for the kids & family, their version of The rocky horror picture show !!! (not my 1st choice for entertainment for kids). Kids (aged 3-15) were seated in the front row one of the characters used the mother F$%£"& swear word twice. I mean who produced this show Jimmy Savile !!!! They do some nice alcohol free cocktails.More
