Was ok

The room we were allocated to first had a broken balcony door and was dirty. We asked to change rooms which we were able to but had to pay an additional €82 for the week. The first night we went to the hotel restaurant and I wasn't offered a drink by the waiter, so had to have a few sips of my husbands beer. There was no opportunity to order a drink as there are very few waiting staff. The food is really good but very few waiting staff so difficult to order drinks sometimes and tables not cleared away after people had left. Pool was nice but only enough sun loungers for about 1/2 guests & people were putting towels on them from sunrise. Entertainment is very basic. We went out because it's rubbish. A 'disco' every night which is just a CD playing. There was a comedy night which was crap. If you want entertainment go away from the hotel. We went all inclusive but I would go B&B next time. More

Nice hotel and friendly, helpful staff

I staid in this hotel few times and was always happy with the service. Good location (walkable to Yumbo and beach), big rooms and working air-con in all rooms. Rooms in some blocks facing street and could be noisy (eg in the block near CITA), traffic can be very loud night time. Some parts of the hotel (e.g. hallways need re-decorating and carpets are quite old. Staff are all very helpful and they remember you if you are returning customer. Good thing is that there is a roof sunbathing area for nudists. The hotel could provide more sunbeds in this roof/balcony area or even to consider expanding it to another block too. Most days all sunbeds were taken after 11am and youngsters couldn't get a bed (e.g. younger population intends going to Yumbo night time and can't get up early am to get a sunbed on the roof). This means you get plenty of 60 Y old + on the roof as they can't sleep early am and rushing to reserve beds at 6-7am by placing their towels on the sunbeds). The swimming pool is big but shallow, I'd say only 120-150cm deep so you can't really swim and dive. The main pool could be deeper. Entertainment team is good and working hard all day on various activities for guests. The hotel might look more attractive to visitors if the owner/management brings more colours to it's external parts/walls. The current walls/building is in a sort of yellow colour and they could for example paint each block in a different colour. Gardens from the front side, especially across CITA needs updating and adding some climbing plants and trellis next to the fence as currently is all quite empty. Noise from the street would be reduced if more greenery is in the garden. (they could perhaps look in their sister hotel Ifa Melanoras Resort and numerous wooden trellis and plants climbing everywhere around. These plants bring a lot of colours and make it feel welcoming. Positive is that rooms are all big, very clean and evening meal is of a good quality. Breakfast are a bit poorer and food could be improved. Cakes are all mass produced and all taste same, so don't expect that you'll have a tasty cake after dinner evening time. They all (cakes) look different but taste same. Reception atsff and cleaners are all very helpful and hard working, nothing to complain. Location is also good as it's less than 10min walk to Yumbo and also 2min walk to the Dunes area so this means you would be staying nearest possible to the beach. There is still 20min walsk across sand to get you to the beach but at least you mustn't spend cash for taxi or spend aditionsl 15-20min walking to get you to this point (edge of the natural reserve/dunes). In overall, I'd reccomend Ifa Catarina as a good hotel but there are things to improve. The hotel rating of a 4 star hotel might be too high and it could be a 3 star hotel (considering that Costa Meloneras is also a 4 star hotel). I've staid in Meloneras resort last May and it looks like a palace comparing it to Catarina. So they can't/or shouldn't be in the same 4 star class. Drinks are good and staff doesn't try saving on you, so they fill your glass generously. Coffee cups are quite small and not practical /same applies to hot chocolate as you get it in a quite small cup. There are bbc and sky news available on TV (both international in English language). They could introduce a few additional TV channels in English. Plenty of channels in German. IMPORTANT: Most of outdoor seats/tables for dinner are for smokers and it's not practical because it discriminates non smokers. Very limited number of tables in the outdoor dining area for non smokers. Also, this type of hotel could provide a free wi-fi in the hotel rooms. Also no kettle for tea/coffee in the rooms (this is given only to guests if they upgrade).More

Best all inclusive

I went here with my partner and his parents joined us two days later. The hotel & staff were excellent, very clean & food choice was spot on, loads to choose from everyday. My partner lost his wallet (drunk) on the first night. He went to reception the next morning to find one if the staff had found it & handed back to his with all his money inside (over 200 euros) wow how honest. We would definitely return to this hotel.More

nice hotel- birds in cages

enjoyed our stay at the Catarina playa del ingles hotel good food snacks and drinks staff very friendly and helpful one thing spoiled it was the birds in the cages . One appears to have been dead for some weeks and there was no signs of fresh food or water and dirty its like no one attended to these birds which you should and would not expect from a hotel like thisMore

Great hotel, good food and very clean, but a pity about the smoking arrangements.

We have just spent 14 great days at the IFA Catarina in Playa del Ingles. Food was excellent, hotel was exceptionally clean and within easy walking distance of the beach. However, if you are a non-smoker, you will feel somewhat discriminated against. The restaurant has a charming al fresco eating area however approx. 36 tables, in the best positions, set aside for smokers. There are only approx. 12 for those who wish to be healthy and these tables are generally huddled up next to the walls of the hotel. When sunbeds are in use there are no non smoking areas so it's impossible to avoid smoke. Similarly, the large seating areas between the pool and bar is a smoking area so if you prefer to avoid second hand smoke you can't sit next to the water. Similar to the restaurant, the non smoking areas are under an awning next to the building. Worse, smokers sit in the few designated non smoking areas but the staff do not enforce the rules. Please Hotel Catarina, have a serious re-think your smoking policy and when complete ensure the staff enforce it.More
