Excellent family hotel - value for money

We are a family of four (children 6yrs and 3yrs) and have just returned from a ten day stay at the Brilliant. We asked for a ground floor room with a pool view and we were not disappointed - room 19 was ten paces from the pool and loungers opposite the bar area - perfect for us. The hotel was clean and well presented, we arrived at night and found the sofa beds made up ready for us to sleep straight away . We had a one bedroom apartment - it was huge with a super king sized bed and two good sized sofa beds. Plenty of storage and hangers, air con and excellent kitchen facilities as well as a hairdryer in the bedroom. The balcony was huge with airing rail for wet clothes - all plug sockets are three pin so no need for adapters. The pool area was clean and had plenty of loungers (off peak perk !), the rep Adam was friendly and always around. The hotel is a five minute walk to the strip and about ten minutes to fig tree bay. There is a lidl opposite which is perfect for s/catering. We came for a wedding and family members who were staying in other hotels commented on how lovely our pool and apartment were compared to theirs. An excellent holiday we will definitely be back. The staff were friendly and accommodating - big thanks to monika the pool entertainer for the aqua zumba which my daughter loved. The house keeping staff came daily and gave an excellent service.More

fantastic stay.

Just returned from a 10 day stay at these apartments. We were on the first floor with balcony facing the main road. The room was large and spacious with 2 single sofa beds, dining table and kitchen area. Bedroom with huge comfy bed and loads of storage. Full size bath and shower. The rooms were cleaned everyday but we did have to ask for clean towels which werent changed for 4 days. The balcony was facing the entrance and main road, which could be pretty noisey at times, but no noisier than listening to some of the loud cockneys lying by he pool!!! The room also has a flat screen tv, you need to pay 20euros deposit for the remote control for it and my advise is dont bother as, as usual there were only a couple of english chanels! Pool area is lovely, and the food at the pool area is really nice. Ive read about smell of sewage but I can honestly say I def didnt smell it?? All the staff were lovely and I again didnt meet any grumpy staff at reception, if anything they were always helpful and had a friendly welcome. I think having travelled, all over europe that these apartments ard one of the best we have stayed in, remember you get what you pay for, and I have stayed in more expensive hotels that werent as nice as the brilliant. If you want a nice clean, large apart with everything within a 10 minute walk these are the apartments for you.More

Good not Brilliant

We came to Cyprus for our friends wedding, there was around 20 of us staying at this hotel. We had previously emailed the hotel asking for a ground floor room by the children's swimming pool (no 24) and that's exactly what we got, with bunk beds, separate bedroom and a massive balcony we was thrilled. Unfortunately our friends got 2nd floor, a huge problem if you have a double buggy that does not fit into the lift! When they went back down to reception the grumpy man at reception told them they would have to 'hoist' the buggy up the stairs!! And if they wanted to move they would have to pay an extra €30 a day for 14 days!! However as thrilled as we was our room was not all that great, after a few days we noticed a very annoying constant knocking noise that was so much louder through the night, complained to be told it was the generator for the swimming pool and can't be turned off! Seriously this annoying, constant knock knock tap knock knock tap noise was awful. We was told we could move to a smaller room! The receptionist at one stage said to my husband that we have very sensitive hearing! However our friends were in the room next door and also heard and complained about the very same noise. Also a very strong sewer smell was about, we was told its normal for this time of year. My husband woke up early for a deep sea fishing trip to find that some filthy person had been sick over their balcony straight onto ours! Hubby told same grumpy reception man at 5.45am and it was still there at 8.00 not good when I have 3 young children who soon would want to walk on that balcony. After my visit to reception (the lady on there said it was first she heard of it !) they and fair play to the cleaners scrubbed and hosed and bleached that balcony until it was spotless. But still it made me feel really nervous that it would happen again! I'm just glad I had brought the kids swimming towels in!!! That happened on our last night and I'm so glad as it made me want to go home much more. We had paid for b&b and l liked it, there is a set menu for you to choose from but ask if its not on there, I found out about 3 days before we leave that they do poached eggs! The omelettes are lovely, boiled eggs are very very boiled but the kids loved them. The Lidl over the road is brilliant, we brought all our snacks, drinks, wine & Ice lollies from there and it's so cheap. Their bakery is amazing, we had fresh baked baguettes, pizza and doughnuts all about 20p each. Yes naughty as we are we put our towels out early, only to find them not there when we woke! I had to do the walk of shame to reception to get them back lol good luck getting your bed of choice at 8.00 as the sunbeds are all gone when I went out there at that time!!! The pool area is lovely, kids pool is great and big pool is fantastic. My 16 month old loved playing in the big pool by the bar as he could sit in it, ideal for me and husband to have a quick koppernberg whilst we could happily watch him safely. Protaras strip - yes it's about 5 mins from the hotel but take note that the shortcut is a very very steep paved hill, fine going down but walking up with a pushchair was a challenge. The strip has very many restaurants and I thought most of them was very unhelpful and I felt they didn't want our business. We go to turkey and find we are very much welcomed but here it was very different. The best restaurant we found was called Modigo (don't quote me on name but its opp love boat) the food and service was amazing. Also the corn on the cob vans in the street was beautiful. Giorgio was nice and also the corner restaurant. There is a McDonald's and a Pizza Hut on the strip but they are so slow! also please please find Mr Cod (do a right outside the hotel you will find this) best fish and chips I've ever had! Seriously it's cooked to order and its mouth watering nice. Recommend the black pearl pirate ship, my husband and 5 yr old loved it and they was gone for around 6 hours lol!! Ok to sum this up, I probably wouldn't come back to Cyprus which is a shame as I have heard a lot of good reviews. This hotel is not as great as I've read and was disappointed overall. More

only one thing to say "BRILLIANT"

Hotel and Rooms very clean and quite spacious staff were fantastic really friendly and helpful food was good and to have lidl across the road was a bonus pool was great clean and plenty of beds around it, it's about 5mins walk from the strip which is ideal because if you don't want all the crowds and noise the brilliant is in a really good location would recommend the brilliant to family, friendsMore
