In the end a good holiday, but 'standard' rooms are sub-standard! And some annoying other problems
We did have a good holiday. But there were some problems; some serious, some just annoying. As well as these, there are some other things I'd like to point out, to help people decide if this aparthotel / holiday is for them. I'm going to do the 'bad' bits first, then the good stuff. This was our fifth First Choice all inclusive holiday. ACCOMMODATION: We were initially placed in room 3108 in Block B, on the ground floor. Firstly, room was nothing like the picture / standard that appears on the First Choice website - very tired. But the fundamental problem was the room was smelly, musty and damp, and very dirty in places you couldn't see (under beds, behind sofas etc.) My in-laws (they're lovely!) were in a room next door - who's room was similarly tired and in the same damp musty condition. (The smell was masked by whatever the cleaners used on the first day - but not for long). I have a ten month old son, and notwithstanding anything else, for his health he was not staying in that room. I asked to be moved. The hotel was very full, so this was not possible immediately. However they also told me I would be charged 30 euros to move. I became very assertive with them at this point. The charge was dropped. We were moved into a room on the top floor of another block a day later, and this was fine. It doesn't matter how much or how little you pay, you expect a room that is clean, dry, not smelly, and definitely not damp. However given that both our family's rooms were musty and damp, I assume that the whole of the ground floor at least of Block B has a damp problem. If possible you might want to ensure you avoid this block / the ground floor. CONDITION OF THE HOTEL, FIXTURES, FOOTPATHS, OPEN SPACES. It's nice enough, but it feels a bit tired and in need of some maintenance and TLC in parts. However the worst thing I found was where a bin that had been anchored into the footpath with bolts had been removed. The bolts had previously been capped with screw-on caps, though these were still a trip hazard. However, someone (probably one of the kids) had managed to remove two of the caps - leaving two 1cm bare steel screw threads standing proud of the surface of the footpath. There are lots of kids running around (nearby kids disco in the evenings etc.), and if a kid's leg, knee or god forbid eye went down on one of these exposed screws, that's at least a trip to hospital and stitches right there - or worse. In fairness, I reported this to the Thompson rep and it was fixed, but not for a couple of days. And nothing like this should be allowed to go unnoticed anyway - I shouldn't have to tell them. (Apologies, I should have taken a picture of this, but I was too busy getting my family moved out of my damp smelly room). NOISE: This is a small, compact hotel / site, and not as spread out as other First Choice places I've been to. Also, the kids disco / music in the evening is provided on an outdoor stage (not an indoor room), right in the middle of the hotel complex, in the gardens. (Our initial room was immediately next to this). But wherever you are, you can always hear this (including in your room, even if you are some distance away). It is just quite a noisy hotel. At the same time, I completely get that this place is aimed at families with young children. However, if you like it quiet (or at least like to know there is somewhere you can get a bit of quiet) then this resort might not be for you. (Some readers may have been to other First Choice places where the entertainment is indoors and noise is kept to a minimum, and the accommodation is some distance away, so you can always get some peace if you want). Music usually goes on to 11 each night (kids disco first / 'entertainment' later) BUS TRANSFER: Bus driver (it was a woman, but that's by the by) transferring us from La Palma to the hotel was a nutter. Didn't seem sure of the way once off the motorway, and seemed agitated. Threw a fit at me for taking a moment to check we had all our bags before she left. But in the process, she left someone else's bag behind in the middle of the road (left with reception). However I later found out at the welcome meeting that she had taken a couple to the completely wrong hotel, and they'd had to get a taxi with a child and all their luggage to the right one. MORONS: It is an aparthotel, all humanity is there, and there are some idiots. A few rude, surly types. But the worst were (whoever you are) the people who brought six drinks in real glass glasses to the poolside, then left the empty glasses by the bin(!) next to the pool for someone to come and collect. (I took them back to the bar). What is wrong with you? Morons. And now the good bits! FOOD - As other reviewers have said, generally very good, sometimes excellent. Lots of variety, spanish style, other cuisines, etc. Always some kind of paella on the go. And if you like Pork, you are laughing (many, nice ways with pork).Only literally one or two dishes through the fortnight that weren't up to much,. Always lots of fresh fruit and salad, and the usual junk food is available for the kids. DRINK: Familiar all inclusive non-branded spirits are perfectly fine, as is the 'wine on tap'. Beer is Estrella, which is nice. You can have branded stuff if you are prepared to pay. LOCATION: Stunning, with fantastic view of mountains all around. and there is a bus stop outside with either Port de Pollenca 10 mins one way, or Aludia 20 mins the other, running every 15 mins early until late. NB there isn't a proper 'beach' at the hotel, though there is a shingle beach that me and my son enjoyed visiting to watch the kite surfers and other stuff go by on. (proper beaches at Pollenca and Aludia). Transfer was about an hour from La Palma airport, that's ok. POOLS: Nice, especially the deep 'quiet pool' behind one of the apartment blocks. I didn't have any problems with the pools, surfaces etc. Small but fun splashpark for little kids next to the kids club. STAFF: Restaurant / bar staff were all very nice and helpful, good with children etc. REP: I cannot fault the First Choice rep (Adam) who did his best for us in resolving the accommodation problems and does a good job. (All the fault with the condition of the first rooms we had lies with the hotel). WI-FI: It works, wherever you are in the hotel as much as i could find. Despite the niggles, we may actually consider returning to this hotel, as the food and our (second) accommodation were good, and I'd like to see more of the area (than you can with a ten month old!). But I'll want to book my specific room in advance, and be satisfied that the maintenance of the place is up to scratch (because my son will be running around next year). I will just say again, this place is aimed at families inc. / esp. those with young children, so if you are looking for peace and quiet, it may not be for you. I am giving this aparthotel 3 stars ('average') as I don't think it warrants 4 (very good) - because it's good, but not very good. And I was not impressed at all with our initial acccommodation. And with this being our fifth First Choice holiday, and the previous 4 were all excellent, with good accommodation, you don't expect to return again to the 'trusted brand' and find a damp smelly room. The reviews through this year (and being able to book a specific room) will determine whether we rebook for next year.More

Had a studio room with great views from balcony that was clean and spacious with fridge and air con. cleaning staff worked hard to maintain cleanliness and where very friendly. the bar staff where great and easy to talk to if you had any questions about what you could have to drink being all inclusive. On the whole from check in to check out we found this hotel very good and all the staff were lovely and friendly. The food was good as I am a bit of a picky eater I always found something I could have and the restaurant staff worked very hard to clear tables and replenish food on offer . The two pool areas where very relaxing and no problems getting sunbeds even after 10am and also has a kids pool area as well .small supermarket on site open from 9 until 5 everyday. The night time entertainment was pretty poor but we weren't to bothered as we had a very relaxing holiday we would recommend this hotel and hope to return again in September if price is rightMore

My husband and I Visited in June with our 6 year old. We were also traving with friends and their little one however we didn't book at the same time. We emailed the hotel a week before requesting rooms near to our friends and when we arrived this had been taken care of. The service was excellent, the staff couldn't do enough to help. The whole complex was clean and facilities all good. The food was good, plenty of choice and suited a fussy child. Rooms were big and had everything we needed, However the beds were not very comfortable! Entertainment was ok, enough to keep the kids busy. All very family orientated, even late on as most guests had their chores up till late. A short bus ride to pollensa centre or to Alcudia, both worth the ride out. Would definitely visit againMore
Fantastic family Holiday
Just come back from a 11 night stay. The Hotel was fantastic food (for an all inclusive resort) was top notch. The 1 bedroom apartments were a good size enough for four. The hotel staff are fantastic, Waiters Alex and Tony the head bar man could not do anough for you. We found out later in the first week that you could buy bottles of wine for around 4euros great if you get sick of the AI wine. The entertainment for the Kids were great Capt Connar and Hannah montaina kept my girls up dancing there still asking to go back. The First choice Kids Club was great too but we only used it twice due to us having one girl 3 and the other 1 it would have ment spliting them up. The only problem was the main pool my girls both got blisters and cuts from the floor in the pool we had to buy water shoes for them. The Rep said that she had had a lot of guests with the same problem it was somthing to do with the grouting in the pool. Its well worth a bus ride to both the towns near by or a walk (not easy with two children) We would return thanks for a great holiday.More
