Great Holiday, but a mixed review

Just returned from a 11 night holiday at the Club Del Sol with my husband and two sons, we were part of a party of 21 people..... The location of the complex isn't great, it's set on a very fast, busy road with no pavement, there is a cycle path but there are constant groups of cyclists going past. The walk to Puerto Pollensa is about 25minutes and I'm a good walker, it's around 2.5miles. The pavement starts around 10minutes into the walk. I enjoyed the walk, did it once, sometimes twice a day but I would not recommend walking with small children, it is very dangerous. The centre of Alcudia is probably about 4 miles away. There are frequent buses travelling in both directions every 15 minutes for around 1.60€ each way. Puerto Pollensa is a lovely, quiet resort with a long sandy beach, few shops, bars and restaurants. Alcudia has lots to offer, a Sunday market which is definitely worth a visit, a beautiful beach, plenty of shops etc. We enjoyed visiting both resorts. The hotel grounds are lovely, clean and well maintained. It has a lovely reception area, and the staff are so friendly. The bar / lounge area can get very cramped and busy but is very clean and comfortable. The bar staff are amazing, a credit to the hotel. They keep the tables clear and are constantly smiling and chatting. Lots of drinks to offer, soft drinks were always great (never flat and bad tasting), good selection of cocktails and alcoholic drinks, and chocolate milk for the kiddies. Evening entertainment was not great! There was a kids disco around 8.30 which was fine, but some nights there would be nothing after that. One night there was a parrot show, a reptile show, an Elvis impersonator..........the best act by far was a comedian called George, he was absolutely brilliant, had everyone in stitches! Daytime entertainment was ok. Victor the head entertainer was brilliant with the children, he left just before our holiday ended and my children were in tears. He had so much enthusiasm, such a lovely guy. My husband and children tried to participate in most activities throughout the day. Can't comment on the First Choice Kids Club as we didn't use it. Wifi was charged at 18€ for one device for a week and 6€ per for an extra device, it worked quite well and we were aware of the charge before going. There is also a charge for the safe. There are good solid table tennis tables, a games room with two pool tables and a few arcade games. The gym is clean and spacious. There are three pools, good size and clean, although they are absolutely freezing cold. They were far too cold for us to use. There is one snack bar situated by the main pool, this is the only place to get drinks during the day and the queue can get really bad. There was usually only one person serving. The main bar / lounge area opens at 5pm, so when it rained during the day or was quite chilly at times, there was no where inside to sit and had to go back to your room to shelter. The food here is lovely, probably the best food I've had at a hotel. There is so much to choose from. For breakfast there is cereals, muffins, cakes and biscuits, pancakes, waffles and full cooked bacon, sausage, egg etc. We always had lunch at the Snack bar, there was burgers, chicken burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, chips and cakes, but the restaurant is open for those who want to use it. Evening meals were fabulous, plenty of selection and always hot and cooked well. We were there for 11 nights and we didn't see the same meal twice. The restaurant is lovely and clean, again the staff are fab, very hard working, always greeted with a smile. The massive downfall for me was our room. It was awful, so bad that I stayed out for as long as I could because I couldn't bear to be in there. It was damp, musty, smelly and uncomfortable. It was very dated but I could live with that, the rest I couldn't. The beds were unbelievable hard, and creaked with every movement, with awful sheets and old tattered blankets. There was condensation running down the windows in the bedroom and the bedding and pillows were wet. We reported this at the reception but were told the hotel was full so we couldn't be moved. Our clothes soon had an awful musty smell on them and towards the end of the holiday they started to feel damp. I felt dirty every time I had to be in there. We had two afternoons when it rained and got quite chilly, and I chose to sit outside by the snack bar shivering because I couldn't face being in the room. My mum and dad were in the room next door and their room was far far worse, their clothes were wet, my mums handbag and contents were wet and the smell in there was unbearable. They complained for days and finally got moved to a studio which was much better. My 8 year old son started to feel unwell with a sore throat and cough, so both my sons moved to sleep in my parents new room. However, I don't think this is the case for all the rooms there. We were on the ground floor of block 3. Others in our party had lovely rooms, with memory foam mattresses, and they didn't end up with smelly damp clothes. The rooms were well equipped, with a kettle, toaster, hairdryer, fridge. There was a tv with a couple of English channels. Our cleaner did a fabulous job everytime, the room was always immaculately tidy and she was a wonderful happy person, made such a fuss over the children every time she saw them. All in all, we did enjoy our holiday, but we wouldn't return purely because of the room we were in. The rest of the hotel was lovely, spotlessly clean, gorgeous food and amazing staff, everyone from the cleaners, the bar staff, the restaurant and reception staff and the manager himself were wonderfully friendly. It's just unfortunate that we were so unlucky with our room. More

Happy Hol

Just returned from a family holiday at this complex. We had a lovely time. All the hotel staff are really friendly all of the time. Apartments are kept spotlessly clean by the cleaners but i feel they need updating. The one bedroom apartments are very spacious with kitchen equipment, if needed. The pools are adequate for all ages, with a fabulous splashpool, although maybe the water features could be switched off more often,as they are very noisy! The food ,in general, is good, but I would imagine, in high season, you will have to queue for a table. The bar staff were excellent, with plenty of choice of drinks for all inclusive. The entertainments team, Victor and Victoria, were amazing. So good with the children. My 3yr old grandson had a lovely time each evening in the kids disco. It was maybe a bit rowdy but it only lasted 30mins and all the children had a fabulous time. This resort is ideal for familys.More

Excellent first family holiday!

Really enjoyed our stay here, staff were very friendly and welcoming! Food was great, lots of choice.. Rooms were nothing special, but were clean and bearable! I would advise heated pools until mid season as the water was colder than the sea.. All in all was a fab first family holiday, and would recommend to friends. :-) More

Family Friendly

Just returned from 7 nights stay here with my husband and 20 month old. The hotel is set in a good location between Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia- both are easily reached by a regular bus service that charged 1.55 euros in each direction. Other than that you could walk into the port (20-30mins), however part of it is a busy main road with only a cycle path to walk along so wouldnt want to chance it with children not in a buggy or at night. The apartment we stayed in had wonderful views and everything worked properly, the only downside was that it was slightly dated and could do with refurbishing. The cleaning staff were very good and kept everything immaculate, inside and out. The other staff in the hotel were always very friendly and welcoming - even though we didnt have any problems whilst there i wouldnt have hesistated in apporaching them if needed. This is a family hotel therefore there are a lot of children and yes they run around noisily, especially before the mini disco- however there is an outside seating area and a quiet lounge away from the main bar area. As my daughter was so young there wasnt anything she could join in with during the day but loved the mini disco in the evening which tired her out perfectly. The food was very good with lots of choices each day/night, even in peak time we only had to wait a few minutes to be seated in the dining area. Overall i enjoyed staying at the Club del Sol and would recommend it as somewhere to stay.More
