A real let down
Just arrived home and we work hard for 12 months to have paid for what we thought was a 4 star premium hotel this is no way that! Splash pool bar closes for 3 hours in the day the entertainment although the guys try hard was shocking worst I have ever seen rooms weren't to a 4 star standard by any means food was not good especially at lunch times! We had young lads fighting and in the pool at 1.30am in the morning! Asked for a morning wake up call never happened I could go on this place needs a re-vamp big style I think it could be lovely but needs sorting out when you look at the prices in the 6 weeks id be mortified still paying what we did is hard but changes need to be made! We all played bingo every night then suddenly it stopped no explanation I did get to the bottom of this but something I would not want to comment on! The only thing I can say that got us through it was our friends and the kids club reps they are amazing and working really hard so hats off to them!! I really hope these comments not just by me but others make a difference so other people don't get stung!!More
Returned home this morning. Hotel in good location between Puerto Pollensa & Alcudia. both lovely resorts with nice beaches. alcudia the more lively of the 2. both resorts easily accessible via bus/taxi. last buses were approx 9pm but taxis were cheap enough. an evening visit to the old town of Alcudia is a must. we were in block 6 (blocks on 3 levels) overlooking the sea. facilities are close together. 2 large pools & 2 splash pools. Next to childrens club a splash pool with slides. plenty of loungers for use with permanent umbrellas. Hotel looks exactly as pictured but there are small things that need to be improved for the hotels 4* rating, considering the price we paid this either needs to be lowered or the hotel brought upto required standard. 1 bed apartments are of ample size - I travelled with my husband, 21yr old daughter & 17yr old son - good points - spacious rooms, a tv with numerous channels if required, good enough facilities for self catering, nice balcony with airer, 2 large wardrobes, beds made/towel change daily, sofas double as 2 single beds. improvements needed - little more cleaning reqd - cobwebs in corners, lack of fan in windowless bathroom, beds hard, only one set of keys issued & welded onto 1 keyring - 1 key for door & 1key for electricity - this was a nuisance unable to charge phones/ipods unless overnight so plenty of adapters needed. bathroom needed new sealants as this had gone mouldy - should have been done before start of season. outside maintenance was good - gardens kept neat, pools were lovely & were clean around the area & not slippery & water samples taken daily. inside bar & restaurant also clean & tidy. the staff worked hard & were very polite & accommodating despite the long hours worked & the heat. tables inside & out were kept clean at all times. the food - it was ok cannot say it was great or poor. plenty of fruit/salad/ bread/cereal/ice cream. more variety required - fish/pasta/tomato based sauce/burgers were the staples with a few other mains thrown in. although never went hungry by the end of the week we were ready for a change & found ourselves looking at menus from other establishments (costly). in the evening pizza was served til 10.30 at outside bar only other things were in the main bar were cones of crisps & cheese & ham sandwiches - so again more variety required for a full all inclusive. bar did serve 4 different cocktails & again the staff were fab. childrens evening entertainment I cannot comment on & I only caught the end of an elvis tribute one evening. I don't think its amazing but we as a family are not ones for the entertainment anyway. the anamacion staff tried hard - one man out of the 2 was learning the ropes & they were improving daily with routines & the way they conducted the day games by the end of the week you could tell that both them & the holiday makers were feeling more positive I believe they will keep improving & they were both lovely. the gym was ok but geared more towards females with very light weights, a running machine, a cross trainer, & a bike. My son was really disappointed as there was no weights machine lol. table tennis you paid a deposit for alongside paying â¬1 each to play crazy golf with a â¬5 dep. Games room downstairs by the gym & pool tables. a football court. bouncy castle. Paid â¬15 for weekly use of WiFi but only one of us could use it at any one time & only available in the lobby - this really needs to looked at - this would put off another visit for my children to what otherwise is a lovely hotel. One issue to be looked at is communication between hotels and airport. Costly mobile phone call had to be made to the travel company with uk emergency number where the gentleman was extremely helpful finding out why our bus hadn't collected us for a journey back to the airport. The airport was aware of the issue bit didn't see the need to inform us. I did ask reception if I could use their landline and for some information but the man wouldn't allow & was quite rude to us - the ONLY staff member throughout the hotel that needed some help with his customer service skills in the end after requesting the attendance of the manager we finally got some help. He was very nice and did what he could in fairness. a few young teenagers decided 1 evening to throw chairs into the pool & started a fight over a game of football for which the police attended at the pool area - for this I blame the parents - they were unapologetic & not the hotel as they were not happy with the situation but maybe if security cameras or a guard were in place (although shouldn't have to may I add) perhaps they would have been deterred from being unruly. but like I said this was not the fault of the hotel. I would return to this hotel and I would recommend it as I feel they have got the majority of things right but as it stands I would give this hotel 3* + which I'm very reluctant to do so but if the minor niggles could be address then it would fully deserve its 4*More

Another happy family holiday
I reviewed Club del Sol last year in August 2013. We travelled earlier this year (July 5th to 19th) and found the hotel not quite as busy and the weather not as hot as last year, both positive things. I set out a number of areas of criticism last year: Non availability of fresh fruit as breakfast Choice of food at lunch Bus transfer from airport. All of these issues have improved greatly. Plenty of fruit at breakfast. We felt the food improved variety wise and it appears Thompson has stopped outsourcing bus transfers which meant a shorter travel time from the airport for us. The First Choice kids club was outstanding this year and the staff in general were brilliant as always. We requested a room in the quiet block (Block 5) directly with the hotel and were given a ground floor room which was great. Ironically by the end of the holiday we were wondering was it too quiet but both our kids (8yrs boy and 4yrs girl) loved the pool there. We hardly spent any time in the splash pool and only visited the main pool occasionally. Evening meals were really good as stated and even better than last year. There were also Mexican and oriental nights which were great. The bar staff (tony and co.) are real gents as ever. The entertainers definitely were not as good as Rachel and Alex last year and from talking to others most feel this is an area the complex could greatly improve on. While there were plenty of activities during the day, when there were no visiting professional shows at night, the entertainment was fairly dire. Even the kids mini disco lacked a bit. The First Choice reps were very helpful and would highly recommend the half day Robinsons Boat Trip. Yes there are queues sometimes for lunch but so what! You are on holiday. Sit and relax and the queue would normally die down in 5-10 mins. Arguably the food at lunch is somewhat repetitive but I certainly felt it was an improvement on last year. Even if all inclusive I would recommend budgeting for 2-3 meals out and a lunch or two over a fortnight just for something different. There are some great restaurants in the town. Cleanliness of the apts was excellent as ever. Areas of improvement? Wifi was poor and evening entertainment. Overall very happy and likely to be returning next year as many guests do.More

Not 4* as advertised
We were unsure of the hotel before we arrived but were reassured because it was a 4* premier hotel but our fears were confirmed! We arrived late afternoon and checked in. There were three of us staying in an apartment so we asked for an extra key - something that you'd think was quite normal - but it seemed an alien concept to the reception manager who then told me we would be given the 'emergency' key so would have to give it back in if we all left the hotel at any point. When the air conditioning wasn't working one day, I reported this to reception and when the maintenance guy went to the apartment he found the extra key and handed it tow reception. We were then quizzed (rudely) by the guy on reception who couldn't understand why we had an extra key!!! Seems like such a trivial thing but clearly not to the hotel staff. Bad points - food was very basic and repetitive - lunch was at the pool bar and there was always a queue...not sure why because the food wasn't very appetising at all! There was nothing for vegetarians and when another guest asked why this was but the staff just looked at each other and said nothing. - no lifts so luggage has to be carried up multiple sets of stairs - food at the bar in the evening consisted of white bread cheese sandwiches and a 'cone' of crisps Good points -plenty of pools and plenty of sun loungers - location was great, lots of places to walk to and get the bus to further afield - majority of staff were very friendly and helpful - rooms were cleaned regularly This hotel is fine if you're expecting a 3* hotel but don't be expecting anything more. Great location to explore the island. More
