Great hotel, even better beach.
We were staying at Sandals for a week and decided to leave a few days early. Great decision! This is one pristine beach, active enough to enjoy yourself, calm enough to not have to worry. Very little seaweed, clear water, seems you can walk out 50 yards before needing to float. Only knock, swim up bar was closed, that was literally one of the reasons we chose this place. All I ask is that you let people know before they arrive. More
Worst staff I've encountered
Hotel is a at a great location; however this is by far the worst staff I have ever encountered. My flight was delayed and I ended up getting in at 8PM. They didn't have a room ready for me after 2 hours of waiting they tried to put me a room that is not meant for any guests. Plastic covers on the showers. The bathroom was so small that the door wouldn't even open fully. I had to call my booking agent who couldn't do anything except to move me to a new hotel! This is 10PM now after a full day of travel. The staff was so rude that they made someone in my party cry. Be aware and spend your money elsewhere. Barbados is beautiful with plenty of hotel options.More
This resort was a nightmare, except for the beautiful beach...
A group of 15 stayed at this resort for a cricket competition, on arrival l asked Gregory is possible could l please have a view, sure wait an hour and a room will be ready, shown to our room with a view of the staff car park and busy road, DAME, our daughter had a rollaway bed, the mattress was covered in hard plastic, very uncomfortable, l asked for it to be removed, finally someone made a call and removed it. The resort is very noisy with no soft closes on the room doors, doors were slamming all night, our door keys had to constantly reconfigured after the 3rd day of this happening daily, my husband went down to reception told them that this isn't good enough, staff didn't care at all, my husband said should l write a letter or put it on TripAdvisor, receptionist said Trip Advisor and snatched the cards.. Next day myself and our daughter where walking to the lift , she had just come from the pool ,dried off and a cleaning as mopping the floor, she yelled at us to get out of the foyer...Omg Cricket team were having breakfast one morning we had been to the beach, we walked over to tell them we would meet in the foyer, we were then yelled at yet again by a staff member from across the breakfast room to get out we were not dressed for breakfast, we asked where the sign was to state this, she hit a small sign with her hand and walked off.. Went back to our room to shower ..couldn't get in the cards didn't work AGAIN, quick shower, omg no hot water, at this stage l rang and asked for the manager Sophie who was very nice, told her our concerns, she moved us to a penthouse suit, which was very nice of her, we got settled and l noticed water coming out from the wall, the air conditoner had blown a hose, pack up again and move rooms... The pool area and the beach are amazing, the pool bar was not open, out of 8 days twice l were asked if l would like a drink from the bar...The restaurant is not good only one open the time we were there, lots of private functions , closed the adult pool for a function... What is good is the food at the restaurants opposite the Accra, as only one restaurant was open we ate there the first night, food was cold and uneventful as the resort is Accra seemed to have a lot of staff walking around ,but only one behind each bar, lucky to have your room made up by 4pm, if we had our time again 15 people would not stayed at another resort...More
We chose this hotel because one of our adult children is in a wheelchair and it was advertised as wheelchair accessible. Our overall experience was good. We had 3 rooms and one was handicap accessible. The hotel itself was fairly accessible to the restaurants, lobby, and pool. The attendants were very helpful with getting my son a beach wheelchair and bringing him to the beach to transfer onto a lounge chair. Our rooms were not fancy but were comfortable. There was plenty of room for luggage and lounging in the room. The handicap room did not have a bench in the shower and the chair to transfer to was not stable. I would recommend renting a bench from a medical equipment company on the island for the stay if you need to be able to transfer from your chair into the shower. The pools were nice, the swim up bar was fun, and there were opportunities for nightly dinner and entertainment. The resort and the beach area were very clean. There were restaurants withing walking distance (although negotiating the sidewalks was difficult with the wheelchair). Overall a very enjoyable stay. Much of the island is difficult to negotiate with a wheelchair, but we find that to be true in many places. We did find a wonderful cab driver who provided most of our transportation.More
Great place but beware faulty aircon
Great hotel with many good points. Staff were universally friendly and efficient, from bell guys to waiting staff to maids. Lovely grounds, large pool and direct beach access. Views from sea facing rooms are wonderful, day and night when multi coloured lights are operating. Nice poolside lunch menu, flying fish burger highly recommended. Didn't try the onsite restaurants as they are many choices nearby, cheap and fine dining. Direct access from beach to South Coast boardwalk for a stroll ( not advised after dark). Decent, small local shopping centres within a short stroll along the at times quite busy road. Also beach vendors next door at back of Rockley Beach. Only downside was being checked in to a room where aircon was faulty. ( A deluxe room which was beautiful). Apparently this applied to the whole wing. Temperature was 27C in the room. When we asked to change we were told there were no spare rooms. Then when we asked to checkout and get a full refund, an upgrade room was found with super efficient aircon. All done very politely but disappointing that the hotel tried to fob us off at first. So insist on a room with working aircon. The hotel looks to have been extended over the years and the quality of aircon appears to vary widely.More
