Join together a pair of close-to-the-beach hotels, give them an all-over facelift, and what do you get? The fresh-faced ClubHotel Riu Costa del Sol, which is good-to-go for summer 2017.
This place used to be split in two, as the Hotel Riu Costa Lago and the Hotel Riu Belplaya. But, for summer 17, they've had a top-to-bottom refurb, and have joined forces as the ClubHotel Riu Costa del Sol.
Location-wise, you couldn’t ask for much more. The beach is right over the road, through the hotel’s gardens. And although it’s at the quiet end of Torremolinos, the centre is only a five-minute cab ride away.

The club costa hotel is a lovely hotel but with a stomach bug going around that is knocking adults and children off their feet. There is 5 in our family and 3 of us have suffered with it. The manager does not seem to care except trying to keep it quiet and thomson has not said anything either we didn't know until one of us was bad within 48 hours of arriving. The bug gives you stomach cramps makes you vomit and you can not get off the toilet. One poor old man went past us in the entertainment area and projectile vomited everywhere it was cleaned up but people were walking through this part of the floor 5 minutes later while it was drying! Avoid this hotel if you want to stay well as thomson or the management are keeping it quiet. More
Lovely Hotel with a few teething problems.
My husband and myself stayed in this hotel after cruising for a week. I was very worried after reading the reviews regarding "The "Bug" but there was to need to worry as we had a lovely relaxing week in perfect health. Check In was for very quick and efficient and our room was ready by 2 o'clock. The room was fabulous, clean, comfy with a lovely shower room, with a massive shower. There are 3 restaurants to eat in and I would say the food was what you would expect in a Spanish all inclusive hotel, but I always enjoyed everything I ate. As far as the drinks are concerned we drank the beer and red wine which were on a self service taps and we enjoyed both of them. Smirnoff vodka is available if you request it, The 3 pools plus a baby pool were all kept immaculately clean, and I can say that the main pool facing the front of the hotel and the pool behind the Sherry bar were pleasant to swim in, there were also plenty of pool activities and plenty sun loungers so no need to get up at the crack of dawn. The Animation Team made this hotel they worked very hard entertaining both day and night, however an all inclusive hotel of this size should pay for some professional entertainers to perform in the evening as I found that although the animation team tried hard the entertainment was amateurish. I found this hotel very good, a few things should be fixed, there's no dance floor as such and the rows of chairs in the main entertainment room could be arranged in a more sociable arrangement. The sports bar didn't seem to be widely used and there seemed to be a lack of public toilets. The positive points definitely outweighed the negative points and we had a lovely week.More
We are currently staying at this hotel and every single member of my family (spread over 3 rooms so not all crammed in together) have had and are still suffering from a gastrointestinal bug. We have all eaten different food (one vegetarian) and have all become sick one by one. It's a shame as its a lovely hotel and the staff are very friendly and helpful The food is bland and not very good quality. The cocktails are dire. We stayed in a RIU in Mexico last year and it was fantastic which was the reason for choosing this hotel. Thank goodness we are only here for a week I can't wait to go home!More
Fantastic hotel ☺️
Stayed at the RIU in Torremolinos for 11 nights in June. I have stayed in many 4 star hotels but this is my first time staying in a RIU hotel. Myself and my partner visited this hotel and we are both in our mid 20s. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady at reception and we were swiftly checked in. No issues and all reception staff were very friendly. Room: the rooms are amazing. They are very spacious and modern. There is plenty of wardrobe space and lots of hangers for clothes. The TV did have a couple of English TV channels such as FOX and world news. The bathroom is also large and very modern. The rooms are extremely clean!! We stayed in room 5139. Which is the furthest block from the food etc but we was happy down there and enjoyed the walk every morning. Food: there was plenty of variety with the food. They had different stations of food such as vegetarian, fish, meat, pastas/pizzas etc. There was also a fresh meat each day such as pork, turkey, chicken, beef. They also had the usual chips, salads etc. We found the food enjoyable but as usual with all inclusive it does get repetitive. We expect this from going all inclusive on all our holidays so we always take money to eat out on some nights as this is what we enjoy. The restaurant is big and you can also sit outside and eat which is nice. I mainly ate in the main restaurant. I did try the Italian once. Drinks: there are many fizzy drinks such as sprite, coke, Diet Coke, Fanta orange and lemon. They also have slush puppies and other fruit juices. In terms of alcohol I only had the lager (cruzcampo) and the vodka which I found great. There are self service stations as well as staff serving. Pools: there are 4 swimming pools outside and 1 indoor at the spa. One pool is a children's pool, the next is small in size, then there's a slightly bigger one and then at the front of the hotel onlooking the beach they have a large pool. Only went in the two biggest pools but all pools looked great. There are sun beds around each pool and although people reserve beds this is not necessary unless you want a specific spot as there are so many. There is also a children's splash area and whilst I was there they was building a mini climbing wall for the little ones. Bars: there are bars scattered throughout the hotel. All great and very little queuing. Also stayed in the sports bar one evening which is open until 7am (also serve snacks). They do not have sky sports etc so there's no live football etc if this is what you're after from the sports bar. Spa: there was a good deal on in the spa whilst we was there. A 30 min massage each for two people for €45. It was the best massage ever. Lovely and modern inside and used the other facilities. There was also a gym which looked nice enough. Entertainment: now for the biggest thumbs up of all. The ent team worked tirelessly from day to night. There was something going on for all ages throughout the whole day. There was exercises for adults such as Zumba, ABS, salsa, aerobics etc. There was also other activities such as volleyball, water polo and darts etc. We played darts most days for fun and it was a great way to meet other guests and get involved. We was always laughing. They work straight through into the evening. They provide most of the ent and there are also live acts that come from outside of hotel. They also have the usual karaoke and dance music. My only gripe is the set up in the ent hall. It is undercover but outside which is lovely. But the chairs are in rows with a few tables in between which means there are often 1 empty seats hear and there in between people. You also feel like your really close to the person next to you. This is obviously due to the amount of people they are trying to accommodate for. Staff: all staff are extremely friendly and helpful!! Amazing. Area: the hotel is directly opposite the beach. There are plenty of shops and bars etc in a strip as you leave the hotel. We walked along the beach into Benelmedena. What a fantastic walk. Plenty to eat and drink. We also went into the centre of torremolinos which cost €8 in a taxi. We also ate at an Indian restaurant (the Kathmandu) which I would highly recommend if your thinking of eating out. We also ate at the shamrock which is a 10 min walk from the hotel. Bug: (this should not be a topic!!) I read the reviews before I came and did not let them put me off. I came prepared with anti bac gel and wipes and the meds. I used the sanitisers regularly throughout the day. Day 5 I had the bug. It lasted 6 hours. I stayed in my room for 24hrs. I was fine and it did not ruin my holiday. 3 days before we were due to return my boyfriend caught the bug. His lasted longer than mine and we returned home and he's been to see doctor today. This meant I was eating out on my own but I made many friends!! Lol I reported the sickness to rep, whilst I was reporting it there was 3 other people there reporting their partners in their room with the bug. ** i have had to mention the bug as this is an honest review BUT do not let his put you off what is an outdistancing hotel - the issue is not at this hotel alone and clearly airborne. ** Overall I had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend it. If anyone has any questions please feel free to message me.More
