A great 14 nights holiday....

We have just returned from Ialyssos Bay Hotel last night...(16th-30th August) absolutely devastated to leave. The Hotel is conveniently located just 2 mins from the beach, which is pebbles, but a great breeze down there and lovely for a cooling dip. Shops and bard a short walk away and Pattys Bats beautifully located on the beach, luxurious and worth a late night drink for the ambience of the place. I cant really fault anything, the food is absolutely outstanding, varied, plenty of choice, fresh and tasty, I defy you not to find something you like. The soup is also fantastic and def worth your first course. Also the breakfast offers a huge variety and even porridge in a big urn, all creamy and worth a bowl full! The waiting staff are friendly and constantly working to provide clean tables, we never had to wait. The rooms are clean and of a good size, we were on the 2nd floor right behind the stage area, but by 11pm the noise has died down, we never had a problem sleeping or found any of the evening entertainment noise to be a problem for us. The entertainment staff were brilliant...a bonded, relaxed team who knew exactly how to help your holiday along.... Dan, Caroline, Kristen and Jelle.... brilliant, shame Dan had to go back to the UK for our 2nd week as we found his wit a special quality and contagious. Our 7 year old Jack loved all of them and they never got bored with him hanging off of them or following them around, tears on departure all round. Pool bar staff also great, especially Arthur's Austin Powers moves at quiz night. George the gentle but firm lifeguard, his English was limited but took his job seriously and the no jumping/no diving rule was there for a reason if anyone took time out to speak to George they would find him extremely polite and a lovely guy. Reception...brilliant, nothing too much trouble, the cleaners polite and helpful and Reuben our Holiday Rep always about to help. We wont go back as the world is a big place, but for those that haven't been its definitely worth the investment of your time and money.More

Lovely Holiday! Highly Recommended!

I’ve never written a review for a hotel / holiday before but felt that after my recent experience I had to! We had a GREAT time! My wife and I stayed at Ialyssos Bay from 12 to 26 August 2014. We’re both in our 50s and wanted a relaxing, stress relieving break, in the sunshine, with the option of a bit of fun and adventure if we wanted. At Ialyssos Bay we got just that! I won’t repeat the previous positive reviews as we agree with all of the good things said about this hotel. We would however like to add a few points of our own, based upon our personal experience which I say now was excellent! All of the Ialyssos Bay staff were most friendly from initial check in onwards. They always greeted us with a “hello” and a smile! A special thank you in particular to the buffet maitre de in the morning “Julia” and in the evening “Sophia” for always taking time to greet us when we arrived and making us feel so special! The food at Ialyssos Bay was varied, plentiful and always of the correct temperature. Most evenings there were two different fish and three different meat dishes, loads of vegetables, salads galore and sweets to die for! Food was continually replenished, even if a dish ran out and there was only ten minutes of the dining session left to go! We never had a problem in getting a sunbed although if you want a “prime position” around the pool you wouldn’t get one much after nine o’clock. Despite this there are loads of grassed areas with trees for shade away from the pool area and we got sunbeds in these areas at any time of the day. This suited us as we found the August sun too much for us and needed a bit of shade. Some days we went down onto the beach, about two minutes’ walk from reception, where there was always a most welcome breeze. There was a 6 or 8 Euros charge for two sunbeds and a parasol but we found this good value. There’s no hassle from beach sellers either! There are two bars, one in the main building and at the pool. There was never a problem in long waits to be served or in others pushing in front of you. All inclusive drinks are available from 10am until 12 midnight. The main bar’s open till 2am but after midnight you have to pay. Bill’s the barman in the main bar, doesn’t smile much but once you get to know him he’s sound! Arthur is the evening pool barman and he never stops smiling! Wait till you see him dance to “Austin Powers!” The Thomson’s Entertainment Reps were absolutely fantastic and made our holiday! The team leader was Dan, ably supported by Caroline, Jelle and Christin. Dan has vast experience, a great singing voice and is an accomplished all round entertainer! Caroline is always smiling, a great dancer and takes time to come over to you to chat to ensure that everything is ok. Jelle is from Belgium and is mad, but in the nicest possible way! Christin is German, very athletic, very friendly and is also always smiling! Daytime activities start at 11.00 until 14.00 and then again from 15.00 until around 16.30. We didn’t get involved as it was “far too strenuous for us” and the reps never hassled us to take part. We did get involved in the evening activities! Came last in the Mr & Mrs Competition, despite being together for thirty years and to make matters worse the winners were a Swedish couple who’d been together for three years and weren’t even married! Other evening activities included a karaoke, quizzes, a reps dance show and for two evenings each week outside entertainers come in. We saw Latin and Greek dancing and were encouraged to have a go ourselves for half an hour at the end of the show! The reps created a really friendly atmosphere and we ended up joining a quiz team with a German family one night and having a bit of a dance with a couple from Finland another night! Ialyssos Bay suited my wife and me. It had a “bit of everything” but most importantly for us it gave us a lovely, relaxing, stress free, happy holiday. I don’t think it would really suit groups of young people looking for “late night dancing” but in saying this Rhodes town is a 15 Euro taxi ride away, 3 Euros on the bus, and the local town, twenty minutes’ walk away, has a dance bar called “The Boat” and a couple of sports bars. The question is would we return? It’s a big world out there! We found the Greek people very friendly, the weather superb, prices reasonable, Ialyssos Bay great! The Thomson’s Entertainment Reps were the “icing on the cake.” I WOULD and probably WILL return! I highly recommend this hotel and genuinely hope to bump into the Thomson’s reps: Dan, Caroline, Jelle and Christin again sometime!More

Fantastic hotel and holiday!

Stayed at the Ialyssos Bay hotel between 20th Aug to 27th Aug. We arrived late, check in was quick, and there was soup and bread on offer to eat. We had a pool room, which was fine, pool area goes quiet at 11pm, so if you want to sleep before then, get a different room. The hotel is very modern and clean. Large building. The pool is a decent size but could be larger. The pool man closes the pool at 6pm which is a bit early. The pool beds do get reserved quite quickly with towels, so it is a good idea to go down to the pool at 8ish am to put your towel down. There is a snack bar with drinks and food/ fruit items during the day. Food is very nice, buffet style. So much to choose from, always fresh and delicious. Also lots of alcoholic drinks on offer. I absolutely loved the food, anyone could find something to eat. Plates are cleaned away very quickly, and people keep the tables very clean. There is free wifi all around the hotel and in the rooms, which is ace. And it is a decent speed. The rooms have air con, fridge, hair-dryer and a tv with a couple of channels. We listened to the music channel mostly. The entertainment reps are absolutely mint, such a good laugh and really try their best to entertain during the day and at the night entertainment. On the night, there is children's entertainment, followed by adult's one; such as karaoke, greek night, quizzes, latin dancers. The songs played at the hotel are so catchy and you will be singing them all day. The beach is very close, 20 seconds walk, which is ace. Its lovely and breezy there. However it is stoney so you need beach shoes to get into the water. The water is warm but shoppy. Also you need to pay for beds. Its a shame they are not free. All the staff at the hotel were lovely and very friendly. The lifeguard at the pool was a total legend, very funny to watch, took his role very seriously, but did not talk much. The main town and shops are like 5 mins walk, so the location is idea. Overall our stay was perfect and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I hope to go back next year :)More

Great Holiday

I travelled as a family for four (with a 13 and 19 year old) in late July to early August 2014 for a week. This was our first family holiday abroad and we were more than impressed. We arrived at the hotel at about 10pm and was greeted warmly by the reception staff. As it was late and after dinner hours we were offered soup in the dining area. When we got to our room, our air con wasn't working, and my dad and brother went over the reception and they insisted they would move us straight away, however after about 10 minutes our air con finally turned on and we had no problems for the rest of our stay. The buffet breakfast was plenty of choice and there is sure to be something for everyone. The snack bar was open throughout most of the day with a variety of foods and cakes, as well as ice cream for children in the afternoon. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. The entertainment staff were amazing, happy and great fun, with lots of activities for everyone throughout the day, with evening entertainment by the pool which was a good atmosphere. Water aerobics and water polo were featured each morning as well as football and other activities on the football court. The first few days there were not many sun beds but halfway through our stay 100 or so more were delivered which left more than enough sun beds for all everyone. The sun beds were spread around the area so you didn't have to be by the pool if you didn't want to be. We took a day trip into Rhodes town, which I would highly recommend, especially the old town, where all the markets are with lots of known brands for cheap. Also ate out in the town which was a nice change to the hotel restaurant, but was not necessary at all. Lunch and Dinner provided, again, lots of variety, with amazing desserts (all snack size, so could try them all!).The hotel looks as though it is out of the way but there is actually a town centre very close with supermarkets, restaurants and tourists shops, all local to the beach. The beach was stoney but that didn't matter as the view amazing! From the beach on a clear day you can see Marmaris, Turkey. I would highly recommend watching the sun set from the beach, as it is a lovely view. We went down there most evenings! On the day of our checkout we were able to have a late room and use our all inclusive up until the time we left, which we brilliant as we didn't get picked up until 8pm. So we could still have dinner and drinks up until we left. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone - the atmosphere was brilliant and made our holiday chilled and easy. Would definitely go back!More

Lovely weeks break

Clean, welcoming and friendly, hotel was smaller than we are used to and the staff work very hard. The food is fabulous, absolutely no complaints about the choice and way it was set. We wnt the busies two weeks in August and never waited for a table. Sunbeds were always available, although sometimes away from the pool. Pool area got very busy.More
