With a beachfront setting, huge pool and serene spa, the Blau Varadero has tropical retreat written all over it.
Varadero’s white-sand beach underlines this high-rise hotel – the wooden walkway that leads through the grounds will take you to it. The waterside setting means the hotel gets fantastic sea views, too.
Tropical gardens hide a massive pool and a chic spa, while on the dining front you’ve got a triple helping of restaurants to pick between.

Lovely, relaxing holiday!
For those who want a short view, would we go back? Yes, for sure! For those who want detail, fill your boots! We had a Select room with ocean view and the view was amazing! This was one that had been redecorated and compared to the decor of the ones waiting, was a definite improvement. If you looked closely at the finish, you could find fault (gaps between the wall and wardrobe, skirting board not attached). Some minor downsides were not enough drawer storage or hangers (got more on request) and not enough easily accessible power sockets in the actual bedroom. However, these did not detract from the really, really comfortable bed and that the room and bathroom were clean, which are more important to us. Our maid was very creative with the bedding and curtains :) The food was perfectly fine, and given previous reviews this was a pre-holiday concern. We could always find some thing we wanted to eat, though if you like your food with some chilli/spice, bring your own! The food in the Mexican was not as per UK expectations, but still fine to eat, though we preferred the food in the International restaurant. Crisps from the hotel shop must have had gold flakes in them, based on the price... Excursions are more expensive compared to Turkey or Egypt, but still worth doing. Plantation/rum/cigar day, great fun! Catamaran day great fun (but don't book this trip based on the snorkelling, which was rubbish). Havana day trip half the price if you book through the hotel customer service and yes, you get to go in an old American car! The beach facing rooms do have a lovely view, but also are next to neighbouring hotel outside entertainment area which could get loud. They had an outside disco a couple of nights, which you could hear, but it didn't stop us sleeping. The hotel itself is not the quietest as it centres' around an internal atrium, so you could hear the evening entertainment through the air con vents (and we were on the 12th floor), however, it was not so bad that it stopped us sleeping (we are good sleepers!!) Tipping - there is genuinely no expectation from staff to be tipped, but it is appreciated, as is polite courtesy.... a good morning and hello goes just as far. Wifi/internet not good..... and if there is a rainy day and everyone is inside.... So why 4 not 5 stars? The little finishes in the bedroom and generally round the hotel is why we have marked it down, which may seem picky, given we would happily go back, but it is classed as 4 star and needs to earn that.More
It was the staff who work at the Blau who made our holiday, special mention to evelio, merlayne and Jenny (with a y) who's service was always 100%, with a genuine friendly welcome, they work so hard. The beach at the Blau was the best section of beach with beautiful white sand and clear blue water and great beach bar. The entertainment staff work so hard at keeping everybody happy and entertained again always smiling. There was a good selection of food in the buffet restaurants and there was always something to choose. There was also two a la carte restaurants which you needed to book in advance, unfortunately we didn't think the standard at the mexican was very good and thought it would be more popular as a Chinese as we ate some lovey Chinese food at the buffet. The maid Rosina was very good leaving us some amusing towel art. Old varadero town was about 20 minutes on the train that stopped outside the hotel but unfortunately stopped in the afternoons and the last hop on/off bus was 8pm. Taxis cost about 15cucs each way where there a few bars, music bars, restaurants and a market. The main negatives were the cost of the snacks in the hotel shop, a tube of pringles and a large bag of crisps were 11cucs so would advise to take your own stash. The other negative was the smoking in parts of the communal areas which seemed to rise to the room corridors on bad days. Loved Havana definitely worth a visit preferably an overnight stay. Would I go back to the Blau, yes definitely but would probably do more excursions as there isn't a lot to do nearby. More

We've just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at the Blau Varadero. This all inclusive adults only hotel is a must stay if your visiting Varadero. On arrival you are greeted with a welcome drink whilst checking in. All the reception staff were friendly and helpful from currency exchange to supplying a new key card after we locked ourselves out ⺠Lovely buffet restaurants for Breakfast Lunch & Dinner, nice selection of foods and themed nights were offered. We enjoyed a night in the A la carte Mexican restaurant the food was yummy and once again the service from the staff was excellent. We stayed on the 7th floor on the front of the hotel we loved to sit on the balcony in a morning and watch all the old cars travelling past. There's a local beach tour hop on hop off bus you can catch outside the hotel for 5 cuc which is great if you want to visit the town. The day and night entertainment team were great we took part in the aqua aerobics and aqua zumba during the day and the night entertainment was varied and fun to watch each night. Overall we had a wonderful stay and I wouldn't hesitate in going back, we loved the Blau ðMore
We visited this hotel 3-17 March Our room was 554 on the 5th floor It was spacious and was kept spotless by housekeeping The Hotel was dated in some areas but the pool and beach made up for this. The food was of a good standard better than I was lead to believe although it was quite repetitive. The smoking in the bar areas was a bit of a problem there was only a small area in the downstairs bar that was a no smoking area but seats were not always available. Getting out and about was quite expensive by taxi as the little train and hop on hop off bus finished quite early and a taxi could cost between 15 to 20 cuc one way. The on site shop was expensive so don't forget toiletries or sun cream And I would leave getting rum or cigars till you get to the airport as these are a fraction of the price you pay either at the resort or the cigar factory. I saw quite a bit of upgrading while we was there and think this will improve the hotel immensely. I would return but maybe in a couple of years timeMore
