This place gets glowing reviews, and it’s easy to see why. It’s home to six pools, including one for games and activities, another that puts the focus firmly on chilling out, and two that are just for kids. Throw in a trio of snack bars and poolside waiter service, and you’ve got a pretty impressive set-up. As for dining, there’s a buffet plus four speciality restaurants, including a Japanese place where you can watch your dinner being cooked on a huge teppanyaki plate. The icing on the cake? A beachfront address – the sand lies just beyond the hotel’s well-groomed gardens.

I was extremely surprised and happy with this resort. The resort itself was clean, easy to move around and had a great beach and pool area. The staff were the best I've every had serve me. They were always polite, available whenever needed and great to talk to. I was very surprised with the food. I have always been told that Cuba is great but don't expect the food to have any flavor. While some dishes weren't overly flavorful, the majority was very good. I did not go for the Ala-Carte this time because the buffet was good. One of my travelling buddies did not want to go to Cuba originally, but now wants to return there. I could go on forever, but mainly want to say that I would go back there in a heartbeat.More

Wow what a great resort !
I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was at this resort ! I was on a girlfriend trip Feb 22-Mar 1 2014 . This resort is spotless and the staff bent over backwards for us. I may never go back to Mexico again ! I have been to several all-inclusive resorts but never to Cuba before. I went with lower expectations and I was pleasantly surprised . This is a big resort and offers something for everybody . The drinks were amazing in comparison to Mexico, we especially loved the mojitos and the cappuchinos in the lobby and even down at the snack bar. I can't say enough about the entertainment staff at the beach and pool (star friends) who really go out of their way . A special shout out to "50 cent", "Johnny Walker", "Coffee", "Sexy Nancy", and "Celine Dion" also to "Denzel and Maurane " in the main buffet. We ate most breakfasts and lunches down by the beach because the coffee did suck at the main buffet . We ate at the main buffet for most nights and can't really complain, the food was not bland as I expected and the service was wonderful. We went to 2 a la cartes Italian and Japanese .... the Japanese was amazing and fun and very recommended ! The Italian was actually horrible ( my only major complaint about the whole week) If a manager reads this please do something about that awful menu and get a chef that knows what italian is or tell him to grab some pasta from the main buffet that is actually good !! There was always great entertainment around the lobby at night plus something at the theatre and also a disco from 11- 2 am for those needing some nightlife . There was a 24 hour bar service plus snacks down at the snack bar which I hd never encountered at other resorts. The beach and pools at this resort were amazing ! I was also happy that it wasn't necessary to reserve a chair at 7 am like at other places I had been ! I would recommend this resort for families, couples, and adults young and old !More

My husband and I stayed at Laguna Azul from February 22-March 1, 2014. We enjoyed this resort very much. It is rated a 5 star but I think that might be over stating it a little but it is a solid 4 star. This was our first visit to Cuba but we have been to other 5 star all inclusives in other countries and are very familiar with how things should and shouldn't be done. I would like to say that if you are looking for things to be as they are at home then that is where you should stay. Nothing will meet your standards. It is common knowledge that the food in the Cuban resorts isn't fantastic but if you are reasonable you will find something to eat. As well, keep in mind that over indulging in fruity frozen drinks unfamiliar fruit and sun can bring on the same upset stomach as eating off food. This being said on with the review. Check In: We checked in about 7:45 PM and were met by very busy but pleasant front desk staff who checked us in and explained where the important things were, then we were passed off to a bellman who took us in a little two seater truck (I got to sit on the e-brake) not a very comfortable ride but it was a short one so it wasn't an issue. The room: Our room was in building 10 on the second floor. This does not give you an ocean view but at this point that really doesn't concern me much. There was a musty smell to the room (I have never been in a resort that didn't smell this way). This smell didn't go away like it has in other resorts but it wasn't unbearable either. We were excited to see that our request for 1 king size bed was honored. The room was large and very clean. The bathroom was very clean as well with extra TP and large soaker tub. This tub has a very high side so it may not be appropriate for someone with physical issues. The bed was comfortable enough that our sleep didn't suffer. The house keeping staff ensured that we didn't run short of anything and although the information in the room says the mini bar is restocked every two days ours was restocked daily. Around the resort: The grounds are very nice and well kept. The resort is easy to get around. The beach is lovely with lots of chairs and shade. From reading other reviews I see these chairs once had cushions on them these have been removed and not replaced. This made it a little tough on the behind so it would be nice if the resort reconsidered this move or chose the chairs with the mesh for softer seating. The pools are clean and well maintained with a comfortable water temperature. The main pool is very busy and rather loud so if you are looking for quiet try one of the two smaller pools. These were very quiet with only 6-10 people there at any given time. Food: As I said before, resort food in Cuba is known for not being very exciting. For dinner the buffet had a fair number of choices with a different main meat served every night. There are also cook while you wait fish and pork stations as well as a pizza/flat bread station and a pasta station. There was always cheese, fruit and bread if you are really picky. For breakfast and lunch we tended to go to the snack bar by the beach, it's selection was smaller than the main buffet but it was closer to the beach and the food was as good or better. Hamburgers and hot dogs are available (ask for the well done) and they have ketchup (not Heinz but close enough) and mustard. You can also get espresso, latte and cappuccino here. We only had the chance to visit two A la carte restaurants the Cuban which was good, no matter what the woman sitting beside me thought, and the Japanese which was very entertaining and very good. Night life: I can not speak to this was we were usually so tired from the day's activities we weren't up late enough to enjoy any of them but from what others said it was a good time. Overall: We were very happy with our week in the sun, ocean and sand. We got everything from this holiday that we were looking for. We did not find one rude or un-caring staff member no matter how rude the guests were (you know who you are, shame on you!). There were families staying but for the most part it was Canadian empty nesters like my husband and myself. I would not hesitate to go back to Laguna Azul.More

Another perfect vacation!
This was our second time at Laguna Azul, we went in Feb 2014 and again in Feb 2015. The staff are incredibly friendly, polite, hospitable and can't do enough for the guests. The resort is kept very clean and the beach is beautiful! The buffet has a very wide range of different foods, so it always hard to make the decision of what to eat because the choice is overwhelming!! The a-la-carte restaurants are very good, the Japanese one is by far the most entertaining. We also tried the Gourmet Restaurant which was our favorite. We have been recommending this resort to our friends and family and we will definately be going back!More

another great trip
We stayed as a couple at the Iberostar Laguna Azul from Feb. 5th to 12th 2014. As repeat guests we had a wonderful week. We arrived in Varadero very late on the Wednesday which was early morning at 3a.m. the front desk staff was amazing at that time of the morning Maydelhi was so very helpful condsidering were delayed due to a snow storm in Hamilton on. We were tired and cranky and she was wonderful. Sunwing did not send our requests but they at the front desk went over and above for us. They gave us exactly what we wanted the next day. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. I was not feeling well towards the end of the trip and again they went over and above. We would recommend this resort to everyone that would like to go to CUBA.More
