On Aghios Georgios South holidays, all fingers point to the beach. It's a real natural beauty, and a member of the Blue Flag club, too.

Authentic flavour

Paint a picture in your head of a textbook Greek village, and this place won’t be far off. It happily slips into the stereotypical mould, with thatched-roof tavernas dotted along the waterfront and cute, family-run hotels filtering back through town. For a change from the nailed-on peace and quiet, history-stuffed Corfu Town’s an hour’s drive away.

Blemish-free sands

There are only two Blue Flag beaches in the south of Corfu, and this place has got its hands on one of them. It’s the dictionary definition of secluded, with sands that are backed by nothing but dunes and natural scenery. Swimming’s plucked out of the top drawer, too, with waters that feel like you’re taking a dip in a pool. There’s another sweep to write home about a short stroll away, towards the neighbouring village of Chalikounas.

Out-of-the-way setting

The scenery in these parts is something a bit special. Korission Lagoon’s the major attraction – this huge body of water’s tucked just inland from the beach, with Corfu’s hilltops on their tip-toes in the distance. The fringe is brushed with juniper bushes and cedar trees, and it’s so close to the seafront in places that there’s nothing but a thread of sand between lake and sea.
