Holidays to Palm Beach bring you to the number 1 tourist destination on the island of Aruba. You get one of the world’s best beaches, malls and casinos, and loads of kid-friendly fun.
A high roller
This high-rise, high-glamour resort on Aruba’s northwest coast dishes up the kind of swish offering you’d expect from a place like Vegas. Super-sized hotels, malls, casinos – they’re all here. But unlike Sin City, it’s got a white-sand beach that would make Robinson Crusoe green with envy. No wonder Palm Beach is the island’s top tourist destination.
A star beach
Condé Nast Traveller called this one of the world’s best beaches, and it’s easy to see why. You’ve got nearly 5 kilometres of sugar-white sands dotted with the occasional divi divi tree here. These picture-book looks attract crowds, but with them come amenities – you’ve got palm-thatched bars, watersports stands and coffee shops all along the stretch.
Unlike some couples-only Caribbean resorts, Palm Beach welcomes kids arms open. And there’s plenty for them to do away from the beach. You’ve got bowling, water rides and a mega-plex cinema down at the Palm Beach Plaza mall. Then there’s a butterfly farm on the doorstep, and an ostrich farm just down the road.
Day trips to Oranjestad
Ten minutes gets you to the island’s capital, Oranjestad. There’s a real pastel-colour theme going on here with the Dutch Colonial architecture. You’ve got a clutch of museums to get round, including one in Fort Zoutman, Aruba’s oldest building. And when you get on to the shops, you’ll find that the Renaissance Mall comes up trumps for Gucci and Louis Vuitton.
