It’s east meets west on a beach holiday to Turkey – with added sun, sand and ancient cities, of course.

A wealth of beaches

Turkey spans south-east Europe and south-west Asia, with coastlines on the Black Sea, the Aegean and the Mediterranean. So, if you’re looking for a seaside holiday destination, these shores will be right up your street. The Aegean Coast boasts the popular resorts of Bodrum, Izmir and Kusadasi. On the Turkish Riviera, between Antalya and Fethiye, you’ll find a long span of sandy beaches. Lara Beach is especially popular, with its golden swathe and top-class All Inclusive beach resorts. Finally, the Dalaman region on the south-west coast – known as the Turquoise Coast – is home to the famous Blue Lagoon. The beach here is one of the most-papped belts of sand in the country.

Outdoor life

From mountains and reefs to golf courses and diving, there are plenty of chances to get out and about in Turkey. You’ll find loads of spots to jump on a windsurfing lesson or hire a kiteboard if water sports are your thing. Plus, you can explore the seas further with a scuba diving outing – expect shipwrecks and Nemo-style reefs. For something a little less wet, look for a hang gliding or parasailing experience.

City delights

When it comes to city breaks, Istanbul is an established favourite. But Antalya is another great pick. Here you’ll find bazaars, museums and a beautiful marina to wander around. City wise, you can also visit the Roman and Greek ancient ruins at Side, or immerse yourself in classical history at Ephesus. Of course, top it all off with some local Turkish cuisine, including kebabs and kofta meatballs.
