Sunny Beach has a great choice of restaurants to suit all pockets, from fast food chains to traditional Bulgarian.

Get your taste buds ready for a drop of vino because Bulgaria is famous for its wine production, with the east coast known for its whites like Dimyat, Muscat Ottonel, Uni Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.

If you’re relaxing in a waterfront eaterie, nothing beats a Shopska salad, made from tomatoes, cucumber, onion and feta cheese, while other traditional dishes include the cheese pie, banitsa, stuffed vine leaves called sarmi, and the meat and vegetable stew, kavarma.

Other popular dishes to try on your holiday in Bulgaria include kababche, spicy grilled sausages, but if you want something familiar on holiday, there are plenty of fast food outlets, as well as restaurants serving up everything from Italian to Chinese.

Evening Flavour

Sunny Beach is a large developing resort area with great nightlife for all areas, whether you be young and lively or a family on holiday. Sunny Beach is one of the best party places to shake your body, with nightclubs and discos pumping out the tunes. There’s a great choice of bars, restaurants and casinos too, to see you through to the small hours.

Sunny Beach is by far the largest and livliest resort on the Black Sea coast, with a great choice of bars, clubs and restuaurants guaranteed to keep the hardest party goer happy all week!

If you want a permanent reminder of your holiday in Bulgaria, take your spare Bulgarian Lev to Nessebar, where you can buy paintings of the pretty town from the artists themselves. If you’d rather spend your money decorating yourself, check out the leather goods and jewellery on sale.

Dates for the Diary

In late August, the International Folklore Festival hits Bourgas, with shows at the Maritime Park’s Summer Theatre.

May-October sees the arrival of the Varna Summer International Festival, showcasing ballet, opera, choral and jazz music, with performances held at Primorsko Park’s open-air theatre.

For the Family

• A hit on the family-front, the shallow waters and soft sands of Sunny Beach are perfect for toe-dipping and castle-crafting. There are tons of family friendly restaurants in the resort centre, too.

• Get up close with the creepy crawlies and reptiles at Terrarium Varna.

• Shoot down the slides and raft along the crazy rivers at Sunny Beach’s Aquapark and Nessebar’s Aqua Paradise – the biggest waterpark in Bulgaria.

• For a traditional trip the whole family will love, head to the village of Bata where fire dancing, folklore shows and live music take centre stage.

• Give fishing a go on a boat tour of the Nessebar Peninsula.
