Most of our houses around Frigiliana enjoy wonderful views, but Cortijo El Comendaor can lay claim to one of the best, with an almost 360° panorama over the grey-green olive groves to the sea. To the front of the house is a large terrace, half shaded throughout the year, with a magnificent dining table topped with hand-painted azulejo tiles as its centrepiece.
The owners, Maria-Carmen and her husband, have thoughtfully provided a built-in barbecue, but should the idea of preparing a meal seem too onerous, even with such a delightful view to enjoy, there is a restaurant about 300m across the road which serves drinks and meals. Hidden behind the house is a swimming pool and a further raised terrace area for enjoying an aperitif of sweet Virgen de Málaga wine as the sun drops over the mountains.
Inside, the Cortijo has been completely renovated in a traditional but luxurious style. It still retains the feel of a Spanish farmhouse but now features beamed ceilings, beautiful floors with mosaic detail and solid wooden features, such as doors and furniture. The front door locks as if it could have come straight from the Alhambra Palace. The kitchen has been completely modernised and now has stone surfaces, a new fridge/freezer, dishwasher and state of the art electric hob and oven. All bedrooms now have fitted wardrobes. The main bathroom has a whirlpool bath and is decorated with mosaic stone work. This Cortijo has to be seen to be believed.
