For a hotel with a view, the Cala d’Or gets top marks. Built on a hillside overlooking Puerto Rico, you’re on top of all the action without being swamped by it. The bird’s eye setting does mean steps, though – there are 200 in total. If you don’t fancy the walk there are plenty of taxis waiting to take you to the top for a small fee - expect to pay between two and three euros.
Pool-wise, it’s a little on the small side - but there’s still plenty of room to bag yourself a sunny spot by the water. And while the Cala d’Or is mainly self-catering, you’ll find snacks and drinks available at the pool bar. If you want to venture a little further afield, the beach isn’t far – fifteen-minutes on foot, or five in a cab.
Inside, the rooms are pretty basic, but clean and well-equipped. We’re talking fresh-white walls, open-plan kitchens and private balconies. Plus, full-sized ovens, microwaves, kettles and toasters come as standard.
Last but not least, the entertainment programme goes down a storm. Whether it’s a quiz by the pool you’re after, or a magic show to keep the kids’ happy, you’re likely to find it here.
