With a character and charm all of its own, Lesbos is an island of fantastic sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages and ancient architecture. Keeping its Greek flavour while being a popular holiday choice, It mixes historical sightseeing and relaxing beaches, all under warm sunshine.
Visit the beautiful preserved Byzantine castle, magnificently perched overlooking Mytilini, the capital of the island.
If you're looking to spend much of your time on the beach on your Lesbos holiday, Skala Eressos is the best, with 3km of golden sand, clear water, a few watersports and seafront tavernas.
On the northern coast, you can head for Anaxos and Petra, both long sandy beaches with traditional Greek tavernas nearby.
If you're staying in the centre of the island, Skala Kalloni's one of the best places to lay your beach towel, with shallow water for a refreshing paddle; the area's thousands of migrant birds like it here too.

Greek Night
A great way to experience Greek culture, on this fun night out you'll enjoy traditional Greek food and music and can even join in dancing in the streets of Petra.
Boat Barbecue
A relaxing day spent cruising Lesbos's northern coastline, you'll soak up the sun and dock at secluded beaches for a spot of swimming and snorkelling, working up an appetite for a delicious barbecue lunch.
Said to produce the best olive oil in Greece, you'll find plenty of culinary delights on holiday in Lesbos.
It's also famous for its ouzo and for the sardines fished in from the Gulf of Kalloni, eaten raw and marinated in salt and ladotyri, a sheep and goat's milk cheese preserved in oil for a couple of years: more delicious than it sounds
Fish dishes, rustic Greek food and international menus are all available in Lesbos, with Molyvos's harbour highly recommended for its traditional tavernas and seafood restaurants.
The Greeks love to 'stuff' their food: try local favourites like Exochiko, baked pork packed with cheese and garlic, and deep-fried courgettes overflowing with cheese.
As the third largest Greek island, Lesbos isn't known for its nightlife but it is surprisingly good, with late-night music bars, traditional tavernas and discos.
You'll find the best choice in the main town, Mytilini, where you can dine in seafood tavernas before choosing a cocktail bar, lounge bar or traditional ouzeri to enjoy your holiday evening in; or visiting all three!
In Molyvos, you can be serenaded by traditional Greek guitar music as you while away the evening in harbour front bars or, if you really want to party, go dancing at Conga's Beach Club.
In Skala Eressou and Skala Kalloni, the best way to spend the evening is in relaxing tavernas and with seafront strolls.
Ceramics, jewellery, honey and the island's world-famous olive oil are popular keepsakes from your Lesbos holiday, along with mini bottles of ouzo – which you might not 'keep' as long!
All the main resorts have their choice of shops, but Molyvos is one of the best places to go, with jewellery stores, boutiques and art galleries are scattered around the cobbled streets.
In the capital, Mytilini, you'll find all types of shops lining the main street, so you can shop for clothes, souvenirs, antiques and paintings by local artists all in one go.
