Holidays in Spain’s largest theme park, with thrill rides, shows, a waterpark and beach club too...
White-knuckle rides. Rollercoasters. Water slides. PortAventura does adventure with style. But there’s more to this place than thrills and spills. With four themed hotels, a Beach Club and a water park to its name, PortAventura is an all-singing all-dancing affair.
The resort’s got four hotels to choose from.
There’s the look-a-like Mediterranean fishing village - Hotel Villa Mediterránea. Or the tropical paradise of Hotel Caribe with its sandy-shored pool. The Hotel El Paso has its very own pirate ship. Or let the saloons and log cabins of the Hotel Gold River transport you to the Wild West.
And if you stay in one of these hotels then your park tickets are included in the price of your holiday. So you can skip the queues and spend more time having fun.
Of course, the biggest draw is the theme park itself. In terms of rides the Dragon Khan rollercoaster is the star attraction, but there are plenty of other adrenaline-pumpers thrown into the mix. For starters there’s the Hurakan Condor that free-falls more than 100 metres and the Furius Baco that speeds from 0 to 80mph in less than 3.5 seconds.
Then there’s the fireworks, puppet shows and professional shows, where you can see everything from Can-Canning saloon girls to back-flipping Chinese acrobats.
With five themed zones under its belt, PortAventura lets you travel the world without leaving Spain. You can climb aboard a runaway train in the Far West, watch acrobats in China or ride the waves in Polynesia. Plus you can trek through the Aztec in Mexico or just relax in a traditional Mediterranean village.
As PortAventura isn’t far from the coast, it has put its stamp on the sand in the shape of a private Beach Club. It comes with a staggering seven beach-side swimming pools.
And to make getting there a doddle, the hotels even lay on a free shuttle service to the shore, so you can make the most of the Beach Club wherever you’re staying.
At PortAventura’s waterpark meanwhile, things take a Caribbean twist. The PortAventura Aquatic Park is all thatched huts and palm trees - and, as you’d expect, it’s jam-packed with slides and chutes. There’s a special section for little ones, too, with water jets, pools and a baby bungee. Plus there’s plenty of space to relax in the bars, restaurants and gardens.
