Villa Frantusa
in Villamagna, Tuscany
This renovated original stone farmhouse is peacefully located 15 minutes' walk from the village of Villamagna and within 20 kilometres of the hilltop towns of Volterra and 25 kilometres of San Gimignano. The villa and private swimming pool are set in the garden surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
The house is built on two levels with the ground floor taken up by a large open-plan lounge/dining room with a characteristic vaulted tiled ceiling, a kitchen, scullery, small bathroom and a laundry room accessed from the garden. Upstairs there are three well-furnished bedrooms, two doubles, one twin and a shower room/WC.
This idyllically positioned villa boasts fantastic views over fields, vineyards and olive groves from the pool and rearside of the villa and although it is in the same grounds as the Villa Frantusina it has its own separate entrance, private pool and garden.

But this peaceful location doesn’t equal out on a limb. It’s just 15-minutes’ walk to Boliqueime, or the same again driving to Albufeira.
Built on the site of an old ‘quinta’, or vineyard, the villa is surrounded by greenery. Add this to its apricot-coloured walls, roomy sun terraces and large private pool, and you’ve got quite a spot. Talking of the pool, it’s cleverly designed around a large carob tree – so you won’t need a parasol if you’re after a bit of shade between dips.
In terms of size, the villa is really spacious. Downstairs, there’s an open-plan living/dining area with comfy sofas and large sliding doors leading out to a patio terrace. You’ll find a built-in barbecue here if you fancy a bit of al fresco dining.
Bedroom-wise, the Villa Limao comfortably sleeps eight. You’ll find two bedrooms downstairs, while the master suite – complete with its own adjoining sitting room and sun terrace - gets its own floor above. In terms of décor, the bedrooms have fresh white walls and crisp bed linen.

Wander up the paved drive, under a stone archway and you’ll find yourself in front of this big white villa. And soon enough you’ll come to the pool, a smart oblong affair framed by a roomy sun terrace. There’s also a raised veranda with a dining table and chairs, and a barbecue, too, so it’s perfect for al fresco family time.
Take a look inside and you’ll see the owners have really lavished attention on the property. Downstairs, there’s an open-plan dining-come-living room. It’s light and airy and comes accessorised with comfy sofas and a plasma TV with home cinema set-up. What’s more, it’s got a DVD player and a games console, so there’s plenty to keep the family entertained. Upstairs, meanwhile, you’ll find typically Mediterranean bedrooms with whitewashed walls, muslin curtains and chunky wooden beds. The master bedroom comes with an en suite featuring a whirlpool bath. What’s more, all the bedrooms have doors opening on to a big balcony.
Lastly, another reason to pick this place is the location. It’s just a five-minute walk from the soft sands of Argaka beach. Plus, for those days when you don’t want to cook, there’s a restaurant and bar nearby.

You’ll find this villa in a peaceful spot above the village of St Lucia. It’s quite out of the way, so it’s ideal if you’re looking to escape from it all. The nearest mini-market is in Kercem, a 7 minute drive or 25 minute walk away. Restaurants and more shops, meanwhile, can be found a little further afield in Victoria – about 15 minutes in the car.
The villa itself has a traditional feel, with spacious living areas that have been well kitted out. Exposed stone walls, a vaulted ceiling in the dining room, and plenty of chunky pine furniture give it a rustic, homely feel. Plus it’s got creature comforts like a TV, a CD player and a microwave.
The bedrooms, too, have been well thought out. There’s a mix of double and twin rooms, so it’s perfect if you’re planning a trip as a large group or with extended family. Style-wise, they’ve got a classic country cottage feel. One of the doubles, for instance, has a beamed ceiling, a bed dressed in a patchwork quilt, and wooden bedside tables topped with wrought-iron lamps.
Lastly, there’s the outside space – and there’s no shortage of it. The main spot is out by the pool, which has spa-esque water jets. Beside it, you’ve got a dining area, a barbecue and a handful of sunbeds. But for the best views, head to the roof terrace.
