Binge-watching Netflix series whilst wearing your onesie. Declining any invitation that involves you leaving the house. And scrolling through last year’s holiday pics, then posting a ‘take me back’ status. These are tell-tale symptoms of the winter blues. So, if your body’s crying out for some vitamin D, we’ve got just the medicine – Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort in Belle Mare, Mauritius. Here’s why…

    It’s got a knock-out location

At first glance, you could be fooled for thinking that this hotel is in the Caribbean. And, seeing as it sits behind an endless stretch of flour-white sand and turquoise sea, we wouldn’t blame you. But, Mauritius actually lies over to the east, in the Indian Ocean. And its mish-mash of cultures gives it a real flare – a bit of French, a dash of Creole, and some Indian, thrown in for good measure. More importantly, the resort of Belle Mare – where this hotel is set – is known for having the best beach on the island.

    It’s a foodie’s paradise

If you love your grub (seriously who doesn’t?) then this is the place for you. Even if you’re sticking to a diet – or at least trying to – you can really chow down at Long Beach. Here’s the 411 – you’ve got five restaurants to pick from, so you can basically try a new one every day. Sapori Italian restaurant even has a menu designed by a Michelin-starred chef. If you prefer fewer frills though, there’s a buffet restaurant with seven open kitchens, plus a Japanese grill, if sushi’s your bag.

    There’s plenty to do

Got itchy feet? Then the climbing wall, archery range and too-many-to-count watersports options are sure to keep you busy. You could even try a game of boccia, which is similar to bowls. Plus, there’s a lap pool in the sports centre for hardcore swimmers. Wind down after activities in the adults-only infinity pool, which has in-water massage beds and first-rate views of the sea.

    The spa’s worth a mention

Take a walk in the lush gardens and you’ll find The Sea Spa tucked away. It boasts 12 treatment rooms, and offers treatments focused around Thali Sens – a special concept developed to fuel your senses. Of course, you can get the more standard options of massages and mani-pedis, as well as a list of other beauty treatments as long as your arm.

It’s great for drinks and dancing

When the sun goes down, you can raise a glass in one of the bars, where local rum-based cocktails are the speciality. There’s a new show every night on the piazza, where fun is definitely the name of the game. And, if you don’t feel like going to bed, shimmy over to the chic nightclub, Bombara, where you can throw some shapes – however good or bad – ‘til the early hours of the morning. Because holidays were made for lie-ins right?
