When it comes to work experience, most school students opt for offices, supermarkets or retail stores. But, when 10-year-old film fanatic, Beth Ward, sent us a heart-warming letter about her passion for the big screen after visiting First Choice’s Azul Fives by Karisma in Mexico, we just couldn’t resist giving her the opportunity of a lifetime. Keep reading to find out about Beth’s story so far…
Beth Ward was given the ultimate work experience when we responded to her post-holiday letter, urging us to watch her homemade movie, Beth in Mexico, on YouTube – and it’s nothing short of fantastic.
Ten year old Beth wrote: “I really want to be a film maker, so my mam helped me make a small movie on my laptop to share with everyone. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
The youngster received a direct response from Nick Longman, Managing Director of First Choice’s parent company, TUI UK and Ireland. In his letter, Mr Longman replied: “Your video has become the talk of the office. Everyone was very impressed with all the effort that you have made – we think you’ve got real talent. It looks like you and your family had a fantastic time on your holiday and enjoyed every moment.”
In fact, we were so impressed with Beth’s holiday film that we wanted to help the youngster add some movie magic to it. So, we asked well-known actor and producer, Martin Kemp, to help take it from Beth’s YouTube channel to the box office. It was the perfect pairing, too. The two met in secret at a top London studio for an unforgettable movie making masterclass.
Beth’s enthusiasm during the production process inspired Martin to travel to the youngster’s hometown of Darlington, where he surprised her with a special premiere of her holiday movie during Barley Fields Primary School’s assembly. The red carpet was rolled out and the cinematic production unveiled, much to the delight of Beth’s teachers and classmates.
Beth said: “I’m a massive film fan and spend lots of time trying to make movies on my laptop. I decided to make a film of our holiday in Mexico, with help from my family, and thought it was good so I sent it to First Choice to see what they thought, too. I couldn’t believe it when they arranged for me to meet Martin Kemp. He’s awesome on TV and I’m still so excited I got the opportunity to work with him on my movie”.
Martin Kemp said: “We live in an age when kids can take their talents in any direction. Whether it’s a pop star, scientist, a doctor or a YouTube sensation – opportunities are there for anyone with the enthusiasm and commitment to go that extra mile. When First Choice contacted me with Beth’s letter and holiday video, I was impressed by her personality and passion. She’s only 10 years old, but really brought her holiday experience to life which takes huge imagination. It’s been an honour to help nurture her talent and I can’t wait to see where she goes next with her film making skills.”
You can watch Beth in Mexico in Vue nationwide this spring.
