Majorca stars as Mauritius in Me Before You, the new film with Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. Here’s how you can holiday with the A-list…

This summer’s big rom-com is Me Before You, the story of a lovable caregiver (Emilia Clarke – you’ll know her better as Daenerys Targaryen, the ‘Mother of Dragons’ from Game of Thrones) and a paralysed millionaire (Sam Claflin – Finnick in The Hunger Games). The pair travel to Mauritius for a romantic getaway in the film – but see that too-blue sea and those bright-white beaches? These scenes were actually filmed in Majorca. Here’s how you can get yourself a slice of their glamorous seaside escape.

Where is Me Before You filmed?

Based on the best-selling book, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, the film is part-comedy, part-weepie, and was filmed in a number of different locations – including not-quite-so-glamorous Pembrokeshire, Wales. (Just imagine seeing Daenerys and Finnick wandering around Wales – amazing.) Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke seemed far more excited about filming scenes in Majorca, as she posted a sunny snap from the set on Instagram with the caption ‘Spain there is no rain, and even less to complain… about.’ Sounds like the perfect solution to the UK’s summer washout.

Where exactly is the beach in Me Before You?

Scenes of Emilia and Sam enjoying a beach in Mauritius were actually filmed on Playa Formentor, in northern Majorca’s A-list resort Pollensa. Appropriately enough for a celeb hangout, here you’ll find a chic marina, classy restaurants and beaches so beautiful, they can stand in for Mauritus in a major Hollywood movie. Tinseltown royalty Jack Nicholson and Michael Douglas have also been spotted holidaying here. Find out how to have your own mega-star holiday in Pollensa – with all the benefits of all-inclusive – here.

What else is there to do around Pollensa?

Pollensa is only about 10km from Alcudia, a much-loved stretch of coast with a wider choice of resorts. It’s known for its cute old town, Roman ruins and Blue Flag beaches. Choose between relaxing in the shade at characterful café-hemmed plazas, or heading down to the seafront for buzzy bars and restaurants. The vibe is more laid-back here than the ‘scene’ at Pollensa, though you can still get you’re A-list on with a day trip. Find out more about holidays in Alcudia here.

Was Me Before You filmed anywhere else in Majorca?

The Me Before You film crew also shot scenes in Majorca’s capital, Palma. Like Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, the city is a rising star, thanks to its ‘something for everyone’ appeal – everything from classy cocktail bars and pumping super-clubs to grand Gothic architecture, busy flea markets and contemporary art galleries. To be in easy reach of this city action, but with plenty of beach time too, you can go all-inclusive at Palma Nova, a seaside resort just 15km down the coast. What else should I know about Majorca?

Fast facts: it’s a Balearic island, off the east coast of Spain, neighbouring Ibiza. As well as a stylish capital and celeb-loved beaches, Majorca also offers family-friendly resort towns and a legendary party scene in Magaluf. Its beauty hasn’t gone unnoticed by other film- and TV-makers – most recently, hit BBC drama The Night Manager also shot scenes in the island’s glamorous north.
