Lovely hotel/staff - not quite 5 star though
After reading quite a few reviews about the hotel before departing, I kept an open mind as I've found some people complain about the silliest of things. The hotel was lovely, and spotless, the grounds were immaculate and there were staff maintaining and cleaning throughout our stay. Yes there was a lot of seaweed on the beach most days, and some people complained, but there is nothing the hotel can do, and they did their utmost to keep it clear every single day. Staff around the hotel were very nice, always saying hello and "Excellente" which made us laugh. We upgraded to Preferred Club, and I'm glad that we did. The extras you get I think are worth it. You get your own section of private beach with staff that come round to get you drinks. You also get to have breakfast and lunch in the Seaside Grill which is really lovely. Could not fault the food or staff there and they were always lovely to our son. I'm not sure the room was worth the upgrade (we were in block 5), the room was very nice and the maids cleaned the room everyday and left flowers which was lovely. If I had to pick something with the room it would be the shower, the grouting was appalling - but again, its not worth moaning about something so small, especially as the rest of the room was perfectly fine. Please note - with Preferred Club you do get "nibbles" in your room, but you must request these at the Preferred Club reception, you do not automatically get these in your room as you would expect, we didn't work that out until 3 days later! We spent most days at the Preferred Club beach as it is lovely, and we would walk round to the main pools as they were only a minutes walk away. We found the best pool to be the main pool with the swim up bar, mainly because this was the only pool with some shadding - lunchtime onwards all the other pools, including the Preferred Club pool were very warm with no shaded areas at all - I think management need to look into this, as families with children need shaded areas (even adults need them!). The restaurants were all lovely, apart from the Asian restaurant - unfortunately my thai curry was burnt, and there was no Thai taste to it at all, very disappointing, and I noticed another guest had left their meal too for the same reason. I can't comment on the French restaurant as were couldn't go there as we have a child (adults only). I loved the Cafe, having my coffee every day was wonderful, and I also got to try out other drinks. The cakes there were also fabulous, I would recommend the banana bread! The World Cafe was excellent, seafood and steaks cooked to your liking, plus our son loved the pasta and pizza bars. The reason I can not give the hotel a 5 star rating is because: the music at the main pool was loud, but that was okay you would expect this, but then the entertainment area was close by, and they had their music blarring, it was like they were in competition with each other - at times it felt like we were on an 18-30's club hotel with two areas competing for attention, not a 5 star resort in my mind. Plus on Saturday's the hotel has a "beach party", which is fine, but instead of holding this somewhere central or away from the rooms, it was unfortunately right outside our block of rooms, and when you have children, and even if you don't - the last thing i want to hear in the evening is "boom boom boom" and people yelling. Finally, if you wanted sunbeds in a particular area you needed to get up early to save them - some people were getting up at 5.30/6am, to make sure they had beds around the pools. The staff were happy to move beds around if you needed more, but I guess you just had to go where there was space which might not be where you wanted. All in all, a nice hotel and truly wonderful staff, but not quite 5 star.More
We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the hotel and had a great time. The visit was the family holiday, so we had 2 rooms in the Preferred Club. (This is worth the extra you pay). From the point of arrival at the resort, we got off the coach and everything was done for us. We sat having a drink whilst the bags went up to the rooms in one of the air conditioned bars you get access too. I read a couple of reviews and had some concerns over the rooms. I am pretty fussy about things, I can assure you the rooms we had in block 1 on the 3rd floor are as described and fine. Clean, tidy, well maintained, everything in working order etc... The food is very good, lots of choice and cooked the way you want it. We used all of the Restaurants and I cant say that we had a poor experience. One comment would be some of the restaurants required you to wear long trousers. (Pants for the US readers!!) This is a bit over the top, but I guess it does mean that standards are maintained. I feel tailored shorts would be OK We like the beach rather than the pool, and this was OK, particuarly after the seaweed problem was resoved. THe hotel worked really hard to keep the beach clear. The other aspect of the beach was the service we got from Felix, who was timely and couldnt do enough for you. Really made the use of the beach enjoyable. From a value for money perspective and quality of service, it is difficult to fault. I will certainly use an AM Leisure resort againMore

Already wanting to come back!
I stayed at Dreams Palm Beach from august 1-8, 2015 and had a fantastic time. Check in was relatively seem less and quick, despite my travel agent had gotten my full name wrong. My room was ready despite getting in before 1230. The room and housekeeping staff were fantastic. They kept the room spotless, came in twice a day to make up the room and turn down the bed, always made sure I had plenty of towels. Food was good and tasty, tons of choices for a picky eater. The seaside grill was my least favorite, the steak was tough and chewy. Beach had tons of seaweed. At one point it was 3 feet high, the resort tried to keep on top of it bringing in backhoe equipment. They finally managed to keep it down by putting barriers in the water, wish they had tried it earlier! Once it improved, the water was great, nice and warm! Wait and bar staff were great, especially out on the beach. Juan Carlos was the best out on the sand, always made sure I had water or a drink . The entertainment staff was great, very friendly and engaging. Tons of activities for everyone, the shows at night and music after dinner were fun- Machine, Junior and Raybar were the best- always smiling, funny and nice to talk with. They work so hard to make the guests happy- their manager should be ecstatic to have such hard workers in them. Looking forward to coming back as soon as I can!More
Exceeded all expectations
HOLA! Yes, we heard that welcoming word from almost every employee of the resort we came in contact with - at least 95% of the staff was absolutely friendly, open engaging and truly happy to be there. The only acceptable answer to a question of how are you or how is your drinks or meals was EXCELLENTE! We just got back from a 7 night stay at the Dreams Palm Beach on August 22. Expectations are always a difficult measure to satisfy across the board since we are all different. Let me tell you about OUR experience. We upgraded to the Preferred Club which adds some creature comforts not enjoyed elsewhere. From the moment we arrived we were greeted at the entrance and escorted to a private check-in with the Club's dedicated concierge where we were served champagne. We were then escorted to our room overlooking the "adults only" pool which is a true joy to take advantage of. The pool has rafts to float on while you enjoy your poolside served drinks, soft music is playing so you can just drift away in blissful serenity. At lunch, you can order from a gourmet selection of foods that will be brought right to your lounge chair. If you like, you may eat breakfast and lunch at a private, seaside grill where beside excellent food you may order top shelf drinks and upscale premium hot drinks such as espresso and cappuccino. Preferred Club also enjoys its own private beach area with padded chaise lounges. Preferred Club also has a family pool and Jacuzzi. Other amenities of the Preferred Club are 2 private lounges where you can enjoy top shelf drinks, hot and cold snacks, TV's, games, etc. Finally there is an upgraded mini-bar service with mini-bottles of spirits and snacks such as Pringles, M&M's and Snickers brought to your room each evening. As for the rest of the Resort, well it is just as amazing! The main pools are nothing to feel bad about - they are large, some areas have lounge chairs in the water, there are fountains and best of all...there is a swim up bar! On the beach there is the Barefoot Grill where you can pick up a hamburger, hotdog, nachos, and at certain times grilled steak, pork chops and chicken. There are times where a Kabob Cart is pulled out and you can get grilled steak or chicken kabobs. Also frequently there is a peddle driven ice creme wagon that cruises the property with refreshing ice creme cones. Of the 6 A la carte specialty dinner restaurants we ate at 4 of them and all were EXCELLENTE! Italian, French, Asian and Japanese Teppanyaki all served a wonderful selection of fine dining - all accessed without reservations needed and generally no waiting for a table except at a small peak time in the middle of the evening. Speaking of evening, each night at 9:30 PM the entertainment staff either put on or sponsored a great show in the theater. There was Dominican Dance Night, a tribute to Brazil's carnival, a GREAT magic show, a comedy Western Night and a Circus night - all great evening entertainment. My wife took advantage of some Spa services and raved about the quality and attention to detail. Oh, by the way, if you like you may have some spa services especially massages performed right on the beach in these cute little huts. A comment about the beach. Someone complained of the seaweed. First of all, there is generally 1 month a year where there is a HUGE amount of seaweed coming to shore. Fact is, this resort knows how to deal with it. There is a floating barrier set up out in the water that protects the beach from most of the seaweed and what does get through is raked and picked up by the staff throughout the day. It was NEVER a problem! The water was generally crystal clear and quite inviting. Daytime activities and entertainment abound throughout the property, all you have to do it is look and listen. I especially enjoyed the ocean kayaks and the hobie kats which were available for use just for the asking. I hope some of what I have raved on about gives you a sense of just how much we loved this place. Was it perfect? Nothing is but as I mentioned at the beginning it is all about expectations and we were not ever let down. Sadly, we never left the resort because we enjoyed everything about it so much. Next time we will want to find out more about the many wonders of the area, and there will most definitely be a next time!More

The Dream Team Truly Cares about YOU.
We vacation in Punta Cana 4-5 weeks a year....in total at least 40 weeks at 15 different resorts. Dreams was excellent! We had the occasion to meet Hilario Peralta one of the senior managers at the resort the day we arrived. We explained our problem to Hilario and rather than the usual Dominican run-around, he warmly addressed and resolved the issue immediately. Hilario exceeded our expectations, significantly. Throughout our stay we observed the warm way in which all staff greeted him ( no "manager fear factor" which is common at most Dominican resorts) as he moved around the property ensuring high standards of customer service were being delivered. It was apparent to us that management had created a great working environment for the employee's and that was the reason we experienced such truly caring service by every staff member we interacted with. This differentiated Dreams Palm Beach from other resorts we have visited. We got to know Hilario during our stay and grew to respect him so much that we will be going back to Dreams Palm Beach for our next vacation for two weeks at Christmas . The a la carte restaurants are also excellent!More
