We booked this hotel as part of a late booking package with First Choice as it was a good price to a place we wanted to visit. On arrival in Split we were met by the Rep, Lesley, who was welcoming and informative. After around half an hour on a coach to the harbour in Split she told us the ferry was in an hour so we could have a walk around and get a drink as our luggage would be looked after until we were ready to get onboard. Boarding the ferry was an easy short walk up the ramp then a small escalator to the middle deck where there were plenty of seats with tables, a cafe and toilets. The upper open air deck was accessed by stairs. As we were travelling with friends we took turns to look after luggage and go upstairs to enjoy the stunning scenery. On disembarking the ferry we got straight on a coach which arrived at the Bluesun hotels around 45 mins later. On our return this process was shorter as we had no wait for the ferry to Split. We did meet some guests who had paid extra for private transfers, but this is not necessary as it is not any quicker. All our transfers went smoothly as the weather was good but we did speak to a couple later in the week who had problems due to thundery weather on their arrival day. Check-in was easy and there was a porter service if you required assistance with suitcases as some rooms are up a number of steps. The rooms are in 2 storey blocks around the grounds of the hotel. Our room was in block 8 which was easily accessible to the pool, restaurant and reception. The whole hotel was very clean and the cleaning crew were constantly working to keep it this way. The beds were very comfortable and there was a mini fridge and air conditioning in the room. A small but adequate hairdrier was on the wall near the bathroom mirror and there were mini toiletries and frequent towel changes. A free room safe was located in the small wardrobe. We were given a password for free wifi and this was good throughout the hotel. The pool area also had an outdoor entertainment stage and a bar, which was the only place to get drinks other than at mealtimes in the restaurant. The sunbeds are hard plastic and very uncomfortable, so we bought lilos to solve this. We enjoyed the food as there was a good choice and all very tasty. At breakfast there was lots of fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, cold cuts and cheeses, pastries, croissants,a wide choice of bread/buns, eggs and hot dog style sausages. Lunch and dinner had one hot counter with pizza, pasta & risotto dishes and the opposite counter with meat, fish, chicken, potatoes, rice and veg. The cold counters had lovely salads, cold meats, fish, bread, cakes, ice cream and fruit. The restaurant was constantly busy but we always found a table. Used plates were cleared away quickly. Drinks were on a self service basis at mealtimes. The wine wasn't the best we've had but drinkable and draught beer and soft drinks were good. There are lots of tennis courts, a gym, French boules courts, table tennis and free bikes which you can borrow twice a week. The animation team were mainly French and they only announced activities in French until 2 Croatian girls, who couldn't talk French, joined them, so then some English, Croat and German was used too, which is only right in an international hotel. Don't go expecting good entertainment as it is all very amateurish. The location of the hotel is excellent as it's only around a 10 minute walk along a wide promenade to the beautiful town of Bol where there are lovely cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, market stalls, ice cream parlour, currency exchanges and boat trips (21 eu to Hvar). Around 10 minutes the opposite way is Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) beach which is a pebbly large beach. There is also a smaller beach closer to the hotel. The other Bluesun hotels (Elaphusa and Borak) are close to the Bonaca. Some staff here, when we were having drinks, said the Bonaca is going to undergo a major rebuild into a 4 star hotel over this winter. We had a great time and loved the scenery but probably won't revisit here as there are other places we want to see.More
Hotel is very nice, clean and accommodating. Food is very good and has a wide selection. The main problem with this hotel is that ALL the entertainment is in French and they do not repeat it in English. All announcements of daytime activities are in French so your unaware of what's going on. The animation team are quite good though and try to involve you individually. Some are better than others. The evening entertainment is not great either it mainly consists of the staff getting people up to dance to what I can only describe as the French version of Y M C A. The most amusing/ mad thing is the all inclusive cocktail menu. This consisted of drinks like diesel which is beer and coke, mis mas, which is wine and Fanta and Monaco which is beer and lemonade. If you fancy a non alcoholic cocktail you can get a lovely glass of big apple, which is apple juice and water........ yeah the drinks aren't great. However everything else is nice the island is lovely and the beach is very scenic. More
Great family hotel
We stayed one week with First Choice in August 2017. Firstly, weather was great, our stay was during the European heatwave but being on the island really made it bearable. The hotel is in a great location, halfway between Bol town and Zlatni rat, on the walkway are ice-cream stands, trampolining, little beaches and kiosks, lovely. FAMILY ROOM: This was excellently designed, two bedrooms plus a sofa bed in the living room so teenager could have his own space at night. Well-designed terrace which felt private. Beds were changed twice in the week. Lots of cupboards so you could put everything away and feel tidy. Good air-conditioning which we retreated to during the hot lunchtime! POOL/ANIMATION: The pool is okay, a bit on the small side, although the lazy river and central whirlpool is fun. NB the pool is all at depth 1.40m, so non-swimmers will struggle, needing supervision or inflatables. The kids pool is only for babies, very shallow. The animation is all in French as others have mentioned, this didn't bother us, you could join in with the dances and Aquafit by following visually. The animation crew were not intrusive during the day. The towel change was a bit random, sometimes they were there and sometimes the room was just unlocked, but it was worth paying the towel deposit. There were two table tennis tables indoors (nice and cool) and the gym had kettlebells and water. FOOD: Good choice of hot and cold, lots of salads and kids stuff like pizza, we found the potato dishes particularly tasty! There is free bike hire which you can do every day if you want, however they don't provide locks which makes it a bit limited on where you can go - bring your own locks! I feel I should mention that on the First Choice package, there is a lengthy transfer via public ferry to Brac island, it involved a long wait at the harbour and you had to carry your suitcases up the stairs on the ferry and look after them yourself. This could be tricky for someone with limited mobility or small children. Also Lesley the Thomson rep is really helpful and reliable! All in all a great holiday.More
How things change
We returned to this all inclusive hotel this year after previously visiting in 2015. The rooms, food and most staff are as before, excellent. The wine did not appear to be as good as previous. However the major change was an influx of French visitors. This has changed how the entertainment and kids club operate. Apart from a couple of announcements all the entertainment was in French, including all the notices, even the notices in the kids club. Only one Croation member of the entertainment team made the effort to talk to us, she was also very good with our grandchildren. Previous in line with most hotels 3 or 4 languages were used.More

Good location, nice staff
We spent 9 nights in August 2017. Good location - about 500 meters from the beginning of the famous beach. Accommodation is good. Animation is mostly in French. Food - good choice, but could be more fresh fruits. You have to pay extra fro good coffee and all-inclusive wine is undrinkable. Though it worth paying extra for good local.More
