    With a pool, two bars and impressive views, the Hotel Britannia Excelsior has everything for a Lake Como holiday.

    This budget-friendly hotel is simple but comfortable. There's a pool deck lined with loads of sunloungers, umbrellas and a cocktail bar. Standard rooms are cosy, and guests can upgrade to a room with a lake-view balcony.

    Overlooking Lake Como, this hotel offers quick access to the waterfront. In addition to the main pool, there's a lido pool only a few minutes away, and it's close to the hamlet of Cadenabbia – where you'll find gelato places, scenic views and palatial villas.

    In addition to the rooftop pizzeria*, there's a buffet restaurant here that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner – and the lido's à la carte spot* offers a discount to hotel guests. For something a little different, there's a Brazilian restaurant*, too.

    Please be aware that the lido pool and bar are open throughout the day and evening to hotel customers and to the public, with live music most evenings. Opening times for the lido, lido restaurant and lakeview lounge are flexible and can be subject to weather conditions.

    Just so you know, a tourist tax is payable locally in cash. This is approximately €1 per person, per night.

    Please note that safety standards around balconies, railings and public walkways are different in Italy and may be lower or have ornamental features that you wouldn’t see in the UK or Ireland.

    Cold buffet breakfast with additional hot options from 8-9am. 4-course buffet lunch or packed lunch. 4-course buffet evening meal with a choice of menu. Unlimited non-branded beer, house wine, local spirits, soft drinks, tea and coffee in the main bar (9am - 11.45pm). Non-branded beer, house wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee in the Lido and Sunset bar (until 6.30pm). Snacks at set times.

    I came to visit Lake Como with my Nan last year. The views were absolutely stunning, we had a twin room with a balcony which was shared with other rooms. My nan had paid extra euros to get a view of the lake which we had, but would of preferred our own balcony, as on the third night there was toilet paper all over the patio on the balcony, and it was right next to the outdoor seating area of the restaurant. The room was big enough and the beds were comfy, although half way through our stay the air conditioning started leaking but we soon cleaned it up. The pool was brilliant and clean, the bar was excellent too! The restaurants food was tasty, although the menu repeated a few times. Every night the desert was the same, either ice cream, fruit or this jelly sponge. Waiters were helpful. Overall I found that our stay was what you would expect at a 3 star hotel. Was good but had a few downsides.

    Yes the hotel is showing its age in places but as it is right on the Lake,it not only has great views but is well situated for visiting the surrounding area. The food is good with a large choice of both hot and cold dishes.The Hotel is situated opposite the famous Bellagio which is a must see.
    Terrible Hotel. Don’t let the photos of the pool fool you, it’s disgusting!

    This hotel has got to be up there with one of the worst I have ever stayed in. How we ended up on this side of Lake Como, I don’t know. Not enough research from us!! This hotel is an all inclusive. The food is terrible, the wine almost not drinkable. The pool area is dirty and the staff rude and unhelpful. When we arrived they didn’t even have a room for us and we were sent to a another hotel for the first night. Turns out, this one was better than the one we booked but who knew. Anyway we arrive at the hotel Brittania on the second night and the staff are just as unhelpful. We go to our room (not bad) but there is no hot water. When we reported this there was nothing they could do as they were fully booked. So cold showers it is. We go down for dinner, the dining room is at capacity, you couldn’t hear yourself speak for the noise, the staff here are also rude and their food and cutlery handling is less than hygienic! The tables were dirty, placemats stained and the buffet food very ordinary. We went to bed that night and decided to leave first thing next morning which is what we did. We didn’t even have breakfast before catching the bus into Como. We ended up staying at a beautiful little hotel, half the price and twice as nice. Do not stay in Cadenabbia - there is absolutely nothing there. Suggest you stay in Lake Como, Bellagio or Verenna.

    The hotel is a bit dated but has some fabulous decor/fixtures and fittings. my room was adequate as a base, balcony with fabulous views over the lake. Room cleaning basic and despite leaving sign to have room made up, sheets never changed in 10 days !! The dining room was huge and crowded which meant crowds for the buffet, the food was nice but catered for an English palate with a very tiny pasta/pizza counter. As italy has fabulous food it would be nice to see this in the hotel. The bar area is way too small for number of guests using it. All on the ground staff are a credit to the hotel. nothing to do here at all out of season. a point to mention is the supermarket round the corner, stocks all you might need.

    We stayed all inclusive and had a lovely week here. The food is lovely, with plenty of choices and you can eat as much as you want. The restaurant was clean and the staff very nice. There was a good choice of included drinks - all the times I've been to Italy I've never had aperol spritz before! The room was small and the view was of the building next door - so not great. However, it was very clean and we didn't stop in the room much during the day.
