Beach is worth it!
The resort is only about 14 mins from CUN, very clean, pools are small however, we never had a problem finding beach chairs or pool chairs. Bartenders are Awesome! Every meal we had was fabulous, The steak restaurant has a beautiful setting, and the Italian had good wine and delicious food. We ordered Room Service for breakfast one day and it was prompt. And the Breakfast buffet was full of any option you could think of. Room is exactly like the pictures, upgraded bath products and a cool sponge thing in the shower. No need to upgrade to the Club level as the only difference is the room view and a tote bag to use while you are there, (and a Comp ferry to the Isla Mujeras Palace). We did take the city bus ($1. per person) to the public ferry ($22. per person) over the Isla Mujeras Palace, OMG the beach was beautiful and they offered water sports (kyaking, SU Paddle boards) and they had a great outdoor brick over for made to order pizzas, and a beautiful Pier. Deff worth the trip over, kind of like a Free excursion!) We had a good trip! Only drawback is the Light for Houskeeping, if you forget to click it before you leave for the day, they don't enter your room, so no clean room and towels, when your always always in a rus to get cleand up for dinner.More
Sun Palace was quite nice
We just returned from a week at Sun Palace Cancun. The hotel was nice, not a 5 star but very well done. Our room was sizable, with a nice hot tub, a roomy shower and overlooked the beach. It was kept clean all week. The hotel had all the nice touches. Two pools, a very nice spa, a pool bar, two restaurants, concierge level help and a staff to help set up day trips that were very helpful. Our package was all inclusive with a $ 1500 allowance to use for activities that covered the entire week. The food was excellent at both restaurants and the special meals, especially the chef's dinner was outstanding. The real treat however was the staff. They work hard for tips and were pleasant at all times. Additionally there were four other Palace properties that we were able to visit easily for day trips and food and beverages were covered at all of them. That gave us more restaurants to visit than we had time to check out. We met a number of regulars that come several times a year to Sun Palace and all had great experiences to recount. One suggestion, take a serious amount of small bills with you for tips. One couple said the bring $150 in single dollars and $200 in fives. Not a bad suggestion as the staff have a very small base salary and appreciate the tips. I highly recommend the property for a visit. More
Still Basking in the Glow
Arriving at Sun Palace and seeing the smiling face of Diamond Concierge Claudia Islas made the long wait for our August 2017 return to our home away from home for our annual Birthday/Anniversary visit worthwhile. Our stay was fantastic from arrival to departure and every day was mostly filled with sunshine by Mother Nature and always by the amazing Sun Place staff. Drivers Roger and Victor provided excellent transport to and from the airport. Thanks to Pool Concierges Celic (who has since transferred to Moon Grand) and Nataly, and the Pool staff, we enjoyed many lazy days in the sun. We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings on our balcony and at the Lobby Bar followed by soothing nightly bubble baths in our jacuzzi prepared by the amazing Maxi. A few days into our stay, my husband suffered a bad cut on his hand and was well taken care of by the staff. Spa and Salon services by Manager Raphael and his staff of superior therapists provided more relaxation and pampering. We always do the Fish Spa because it is fun, but also very healthy. It is also fun to watch passers-by stop and stare. We tell them to try it. It is well worth the small room charge. We enjoyed many meals prepared for by Chefs Eduardo and Alfredo (Alamo), Antonio (La Trotto) and Eduardo (Thai). Due to a construction project by a neighboring hotel, the Thai was back on the pool deck. Chef Eduardo’s cuisine more than made up for the lack of ambiance. Our Diamond, Birthday and Anniversary Dinners by Chef Antonio were gustatory masterpieces. Sommelier Olsen provided excellent service at all the restaurants. His Tequila Tasting was entertaining and educational. You should try it. Chef’s dinner by Executive Chef Edgar Poot and Mario DeWitt was delicious and, informative. The revised Mexican dishes and Olsen’s new wine pairings were wonderful. The return of juggler Paul Ponce and his team made for exciting entertainment. Baby Turtle releases in August are frequent. We were able to enjoy the experience of helping them start their new lives at sea. So, those are some highlights. In addition to Pablo Winkler, the irreplaceable General Manager, and Claudia Islas, the extraordinary Diamond Concierge whose caring professionalism and attention to detail are the reasons we call Sun Palace “home”, the following deserve special mention: Martin Cano, Front Desk Manager, who always goes above and beyond for all guests; his staff, Supervisor Erik, Guillermo, Nancy and the night-shift team Alexis, Yesmenia, Carlos, Israel and Josshuan (who also doubles as a Concierge); Santos and Samuel, Bellmen extraordinaire; Consuelo and Salma of Public Relations; Mario DeWitt, a force of nature with boundless energy; Restaurant Managers Marthe, Ricardo, Efrain, Jose, Jorge, Gustavo and the ever-present Omar Moreno; all of their hostesses and wait staffs (especially Beatriz, Mariana, Ingrid, Fresia, Mauricio, Jose, Leslie, Mario, Carlos, Ivan, Aurelia, Javier, Roger Antonio, and Juisse. Chefs Eduardo and Alfredo (Alamo), Antonio (La Trotto - Thank you for everything!); the chefs at Steak and Thai (Eduardo); Chef Maria at the pool for my special guacamole; Chefs Alfredo (perfect waffles, omelets and churros), Alberto and Miguel for helping us with our Spanish; Breakfast servers Dalia, Angel, Gilmer (Thank you for the birthday cake), and Damian who also provide smiles and Spanish lessons; Marisole (Room Service Manager) and her wonderful staff Teodoro, Rodolfo, Victoria, Gumaro and Blanca for their excellence. All of the bartenders and Karina; Pool Concierge Nataly for her effervescent smile and can-do attitude; Pool/Beach attendants Leslie, Chantal. Jose-Daniel and Enedino, who always remember our preferences and open our water bottles; Karina and Ricardo at the Snack Bar for their smiles and hugs; Public Areas Manger Manuela, Ilyana, and their staff for all they do; Everyone in Concierge Housekeeping, especially Supervisor Neryeda, supervisor-in-training Maxi, Esperanza, and Rhobban, for those inviting bubble baths and creative room decorations, and Blanca for keeping our fridge stocked; Spa and Salon Therapists Freisy and Primavera (who has moved to Moon Grand) for the best massages and facials, and Gerta, Monica, and Nievi for mani-pedis and haircuts that last. Thank you also to receptionists Nataly, Estefania, Gael and Spa Manager Raphael Perez. Where he is limited by less than ideal facilities, he excels in staff and service – the best of all the Palace resorts. A very big Thank you to Ernestina, Assistant to Mr. Winkler for making sure he has the freedom to spend quality time with his guests and staff. Thanks also to the Entertainment Staff (Geronimo, Augusto (“Chocolate”) and Aaron for inventive Pool activities, especially paddle board yoga, and fun times at the Lobby Bar. Finally, Thank you to every one of our Sun Palace “Family” who participated in Charles’ Birthday “Card” photos and cherished memories we collected. I am sure I have missed other special people, but will be sure to thank them in person when we return in to Sun Palace, our home away from home, where consistent five-star service and food continues to be the norm, not the exception.More

Very good, not quite great, but a really good vacation spot!
Went for my husband's and my 15th anniversary trip. We wanted all-inclusive so we wouldn't have to think about much or leave the property (kind of a spur of the moment trip since our original trip to St. Thomas had to be postponed due to the hurricane). So, the location is great. About 20 minutes from the airport, so no long, hot car ride after a day of air travel. We arranged for private transportation so we wouldn't be sharing space and so it would be easier to find our ride (it's a little hectic at arrivals in that airport!) Door service and check-in was quick and easy with a refreshing green drink as we walked through the door. Our room was lovely, and we splurged for an ocean view which was really stunning. Bed was REALLY comfortable! Veranda was small, but just fine and with enough room for us to sit comfortably and watch the sunrise. Water pressure was adequate, but we were on the top floor, so likely is better down below! Food choices are good, with a buffet at breakfast that we really liked. The buffet was also usually our top choice at lunch, as well, unless we stayed on the beach or by the pool. Pool/beach food was delivered right to where you are sitting, and I was perfectly happy with the quality and choices (ceviche is very light and fresh, fish tacos very tasty as well!) In the evenings, we visited the Mexican restaurant (good, not great), the Italian restaurant (again, good but not great), and the Asian restaurant, which I think was my favorite (of course, I LOVE sushi, so that was a big draw!) Room service is available at all times, but we only did that for breakfast once, and a snack once. It was fine. Snacks at the lobby bar were good. Service was great. Everyone was friendly and professional. We LOVED the outdoor activities by the pool and on the beach - played pool and beach volleyball almost every day we were there! There were other activities as well, but we mostly just did our own thing. The pools are clean and beautiful with infinity edges overlooking the beach. The beach is clean with beautiful sand. The surf was a little rough while we were there, but really fun and well-managed by the life guards. Okay, so what keeps me from giving Sun Palace 5 stars is that it isn't actually that easy to use resort credits, which is a big draw to staying there. Food and drink is already included - and that is GREAT - but to do spa treatments, buy things in the resort stores, or go on excursions takes a lot of hoop jumping and dancing to figure out when you can do what and for how much and so on. For example, you have a limited amount you can spend on each option. Like we wanted to do a couple's massage, but only 3 types were eligible for resort credit, and to get the 80 minute massage for both of us would have gone over our limit for spa credit. The plus is that you get a card at the end of your stay with your unused credits so you can use them next time you stay at a Palace resort (if it's within one year and 2 weeks of the stay) OR you can transfer the credit to someone else. I don't know if we'll be using them ourselves, but if we do, I will have a better idea of how to use them next time. If not, hopefully I can gift them to someone!! If you have managed to read through all of this, I would give Sun Palace 4 1/2 stars if that were possible, mostly because the setting is beautiful, the service is wonderful, and the hotel itself is very clean and lovely.More
