Charming and rustic

A charming and rustic villa in a peaceful rural location, well equipped with good size pool and private garden. Only 15 mins walk to centre of Cuitadella, a lovely town, 5 mins drive from several supermarkets. If you want 5* luxury this is not the place for you. If you want peace and quiet in a typically Spanish house give it a try. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

The dead wasps in the pool & horrible flys & ants in the villa. We're not the worse pest.At 9.30am in the first week the owner burst in.My wife was sitting in her under clothes. When I came out the man was standing staring at my wife.I said what the ...Then they both started cutting grass & water. They left after about an hour. In the second week. They burst in again this time the woman was staring in the villa window. To end it we got a phone call from TUI. Saying we had to been out the villa on our leaving day at 9.00am .Or the owners will phone the police. My wife & l are both disabled. We paid £3300.for this holiday. What a pure waste of money.

Previous reviews describe the villa extremely accurately. Here’s some practical info. The villa is situated nowhere near where TUI indicates in its description. A car is essential, but you can walk it into the centre of Ciutadella within 20 mins. You could also walk to Lidl’s in about 15 mins. Essential for supply’s & by far the cheapest place to shop. The villa is large enough for 4, plenty of outside space, with 3 separate seating areas. The pool is of a size where you can actually have a decent swim. The electric gate is broke, so is opened by hand. Not an issue, but just a warning regarding security. We had a couple of power cuts. The fuse box next to the front door tripped - easy to reset. No Wi-fi? Obviously more of a concern for the kids. The TV worked well, but only Sky news & Disney Channels available in English. Just a warning regarding the hot water supply. Don’t let your 16 yr old stand in the shower for 10 mins, as there’ll be none left until it reheats. The Washing machine is archaic. It does a cycle, but refuses to spin at any speed. Air conditioning is great, if a little confusing. Hard to know which setting to use, but we got there eventually. The fly’s weren’t much of a problem. There’s a huge stock of spray under the sink. All in all, a great place to stay.

Myself and my husband stayed at this villa for one week with our 6 year old granddaughter. The villa is situated towards the end of a track and whilst it is quite out of the way, there are supermarkets within a 5 min drive, including Lidl, Mercadona and Dia. There is also a better supermarket called Diskont in Ciutadella. A car is necessary whilst staying here; it is around 1.5 miles to the centre of Ciutadella town. The villa is a traditional design with two bedrooms; one double and one twin, a shared bathroom with a good shower over the bath, and a comfortable living area with two sofas and a chair, a small table and a flat screen TV. There is a key safe available. The kitchen is a reasonable size containing a kitchen table, fridge freezer, cooker with gas hob and electric oven, a microwave, and toaster. It is well appointed with plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils and good quality pans provided. There are two air con units, tho we didn’t try them out. There are two outside areas – one by the kitchen, which catches the sun in the morning, containing a plastic table and chairs, plus a wooden bench table in the BBQ area. There is an outside toilet in this area, which also houses a washing machine and there are two washing lines with pegs. The BBQ area is good, with a tap and sink and a stone built BBQ with chimney. The larger outside area at the front of the house has room to park a car and a small pool. The garden is peaceful and private with grassy areas and lots of plants and trees, including plenty of shaded spots. There is also a table and chairs at the front of the house and four sun loungers in the garden. No beach towels provided and no WiFi. There are good safe, sandy beaches with crystal clear water a little drive away. We booked through Thomson/Tui and the rep at the airport said we could go straight to the villa. However, we got there around 12 noon and it was clear the villa had not been serviced since the last people stayed. Unhelpfully, the Thomson info manual had the pages listing the local Thomson rep contact details removed from the manual, so we had to call the main Thomson 24/7 helpline, who made enquiries and informed us the cleaners weren’t due until later – they came about 2 o’clock. Contrary to previous reviews, there is no grocery welcome pack (I think that may have been when it was part of the “Simply Travel” range, which is no more) or complimentary toiletries. The cleaners left just half a toilet roll in the main bathroom and nothing in the outside loo! Half way through the week (Wednesday) the cleaners came again but all they did was change the towels, leaving a pile of clean towels in the living room. They did no cleaning, didn’t empty the bins or change the bed linen. You have to empty the bins yourself by finding a communal bin on the side of the road somewhere – no spare bin liners are provided either. All in all however, we had an enjoyable and comfortable stay and were generally very pleased with the villa ... except for one thing – we were rather plagued with flies – there were always several buzzing around in every room and outside; horrid and very annoying, and we used loads of fly spray, but at least there were a couple of fly swatters provided, which were in constant use. We couldn’t determine any reason for this problem, except for maybe the plants attracted them, we just don’t know. We did not suffer with any mosquitoes around (this was early October). Whilst we loved the villa itself, the fly issue may prevent us from returning tbh. However, we would certainly return to Menorca, as it is a beautiful island. Finally, the road name for the villa is ‘Paraje Magraňas’, sat nav co-ords N40° 00.667, E03° 50.705 – don’t rely on where Thomson plant their drop-pin on the map on their website; they just plonk it anywhere in the area (although you are of course given written directions at the airport).
A slice of paradise

Firstly this Villa has no WiFi. Not a problem at all if you want a total break from it all as we did. There are plenty of wifi zones all around the island. To get to these it's a must to have a car as you are 10 minutes away from Cuitadella the nearest town. We stayed here for 2 weeks. 2 adults and 2 children and it was the best holiday we have ever had. This villa has it all, everything you could possibly need including travel cot and high chair, ironing board and iron, coffee maker, microwave, dvd player, cd player, even a small collection of books that people have left behind when they've finished them. Both outdoor and indoor loos and a washing machine, there are even pegs for the washing line. There are complimentary shampoo and shower gels and a kitchen pack for your arrival. Towels are provided and changed throughout your stay and the cleaners do a basic clean a couple of times a week, and the pool man comes 3 times a week. The shower has amazing pressure but don't drink the water, use bottled it tastes better. The air conditioning works really well and kept it comfortable at night. There is so much outdoor seating you will be spoilt for choice and the pool is amazing especially at night with the lights on. I loved sitting there at dusk watching the bats flying over, and if you sit still and listen the Gecko's will sing to you whilst they hunt. If you choose to stay in this amazing little villa you won't regret it at all. It is so quiet private and peaceful here as long as you don't mind the sounds and sights of nature around you. We will be booking again next year, I wouldn't dream of not returning.
