An honest review
On arrival at Isla Bonita there was a small que x2 of avoid 5 people either side. We waited there for about 35 minutes. Staff didn't apologise for the wait, however they were very polite when giving us our keys and wishing us a good stay. When we came to our room, we were expecting a modern one as it was our honeymoon and we had been told by who we had booked by that we were pushed for an upgrade. When we went to ask staff they said call our company we booked with and sort it with them. We did this, and they said they had made a note on the system directly to the hotel and to go and ask them if they have any upgrades available and they will sort it. We went to reception as asked this and they refused to let us upgrade unless we paid a lot extra per night. We were later told by guests that there are only a couple of modern rooms so please don't expect anything more than floral duvets and peach curtains. So the room. Although we were disappointed with it not being modern, the room was spacious and clean. We chose a family room, which had its own lounge and small kitchen/dining area (however there were no plates/cutlery ect, but I'm sure if we had asked at reception they would have given us some). We had a sign to clean or leave our room. Most days we said to leave it accept half way through when we wanted fresh towels and needed toilet roll. There was always hot water day and night and a hair dryer in the bathroom. I saw a recent review about hard beds, which is true... yes the beds are hard... accept the sofa bed! With this in mind, and to my dismay when I sat on it, we didn't sleep to bad on them.. regardless of being hard. But I'll be glad to get home to our own bed! Our sheets weren't changed when we asked for a room clean, I know this as there was a small amount of blood on the sheet. But again, I'm sure if i asked or left a note they would have changed them. When our room was cleaned staff didn't actually clean our bath and sinks. We had a pool view room which was nice, and there were lifts to every floor. The entertainment at night was loud and you could hear it in our room. This didn't bother us and we shut all doors to minimise it. But if you struggle with noise being ear plugs to avoid being tired. The entertainment finished by 11 though! Right.... as we are on entertainment I shall discuss this next. We barely went to any of this as we don't really drink and we find it all a bit cheesy. One night we went to bingo which was a laugh. I really wanted to watch the animal shows, but we missed the first one, which was parrots.. but we got to hold them and have photos that we could later buy (but we didn't). They were very clever and treated well. The second animal show was birds of prey. We saw the staff of the show pulling the owls face around to get it to pose for a photo which upset me as I'm a huge animal lover. So we chose not to go to the show. But when coming out of our room to get a drink, I saw the tiny little boxes that they were getting these large birds out of. This made me angry and I had to go to my room. Out of sight out of mind and there was nothing I could do. We did some aerobics in the pool which we loved! There was plenty of things on, but most of it was for kids. So great for families! Okay, food and drinks... we went all inclusive and were able to help ourselves to drinks off tap at anytime. The one night I wanted to get my wife a cheeky cocktail I regretted it. I got a mock-tail as I don't drink, and both drinks tasted like pure syrup... so sweet and un-drinkable. I went to get her an archers and tasted this and it was okay, tasted a bit different to home but expected. And I also got her a vodka...yes by this point I'm trying to get her drunk! Haha! This didn't work however as they were so generous with their spirits she couldn't take it. But to those who love a drink... they love to pour it strong! The food..... okay... well lots of complaints about the lack of variety and food being cold... the food is mostly the same everyday... the salads, cheese, breads, meat selection, pizza, burgers/hot dogs, pasta and chips. However they do offer a variety of new foods each day too... different fish, meats and rice dishes ect. The desserts vary in colour but not flavour as most of the cakes don't have any. They did vary the ice cream and have plenty of fruit on offer. We loved the breakfast menu the most. The hot plates to keep food warm so need improvement as often food was cold... and some of the meats and fish were dry and over cooked. Most food has a label, but some of it didn't and when I asked chefs what fish it was they didn't understand me at all. There was a BBQ 3 nights a week that you book onto which was very nice. Like a 3 course meal. The restaurant staff were amazing! Polite, helpful and very good at taking your plates and cleaning tables ready for the next person. The hotel in general was okay. The pools were kept clean and staff were seen every night cleaning the water and pool areas. The main stage area was kept clean and tidy always. Nice little shop on site, bit pricey but that's imports for you! Great onsite kiosk for trips out. Can do your laundry on site. Lifts to every level. Cheeky secret adult roof top sun lounge..!!! The area itself..... we booked to go on a uno boat trip through the hotel which was amazing.. 3 hours, food on board, unlimited drinks all in the cost. Also get to see dolphins and whales and can jump off the boat into the water. We also went to loro park.... which is a zoo. This was so good! Especially the dolphin and whale shows! We loved them... we also went to Siam park which was really good.... such a great day there! The busses from the hotel itself was a bit of a nightmare... people herding around like sheep not sure what bus is theres. There were so many people outside and so many busses that it all got a bit much for most people as they were just showing every driver there ticket to be told yes or no. Some free busses to places too which was good! The shops and beach are close by. And you get men trying to sell you all sorts at the beach. I ended up with a €8 pineapple because he just cut it and put it down in front of me so be careful and learn to sternly say no before taking a trip down there as some of them were so pushy. Great variety of bars, restaurants and shops that sell all the sunny bits you need. I think that's most of the bits people will wish to know. I've tried to be as honest as I can and I hope this helps anyone wishing to come and stay here. Overall the stay was good. I think we paid a little over what we got but it wasn't a bad place to stay for a week. Looking forward to going home for food though! More
When you get off the coach this is the hotel that everyone thinks 'THANK GOD WE'RE NOT AT THAT ONE' Mmmmmm 4 star - NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS!!! Don't get me wrong the hotel was clean (ish) and staff were very good and the food was also very good. However - it is VERY VERY dated. In the review it says there is a gym - if you class a weights machine that is rusty, 2 bikes (also rusty) with NO chains, and a treadmill that didn't work - even plugging it in you took your life into your own hands......then yes it has a gym - unfortunately it is not fit for use. Also the food around the pool was disappointing. There were literally a few very small sandwiches and maybe the odd pastry - no chips, no burgers, no pizza, no toasted sandwiches, no ice creams, no salads............. We went to look in a few hotels nearby that were also 4* - these were a million times better. The Isla Bonita is a 2-3* at bestMore
Arrived to the hotel at 2300, quick check in process and was shown to a cold buffet as the all inclusive stops at 2300. Staff at reception very friendly and helpful. Room was next to pool. Room had a sitting room, small kitchen area with fridge, bathroom and bedroom. Room was spotlessly clean. And cleaned everyday. Pool areas there is three in total are all kept immaculate, always busy but always got a lounger. Bars at pools. And snacks served there throughout day. Snacks maybe could do with some improvement. Entertainment was different each night, parrot show, Elton John, dancing etc. Bar staff very friendly and helpful. Food was good, plenty choice. A fish, a couple meats and pasta burgers and pizza. Lots of salads and breads and a lovely selection of puddings. Close to beach about 10 min walk, a 5 min walks to shops. A main pickup point for most tours. Would definitely return here again. Had a lovely stay. Don't see why so many people have written such terrible reviews. More
Don’t stay here
I went with my disabled husband, the slope up to the hotel was too steep and the corridors were quite narrow also no disabled toilets. The air conditioning in the room was worth having and when we told reception he just said it wasn’t good in the hotel. The evening entertainment was rubbish, the girls couldn’t mime on time and giggled there way through, seem very high school is, kids disco was 30mins but rubbish also. The beds are rock hard, pool was as cold as ice even though temperatures was over 29 degrees in the sun, it is very dated and run down as pictures people have posted are true. Plus side there’s no rubbish lying around, there is a good selection of food but the heat lamps need turning up as food was cold. We only saw 3 cockroaches, one small one in the restraint, one large dead one in the open air corridor and one ran over the open air stage. The tourist information/tour seller is English and very informative and friendly. There is one shop and it sells most things. Don’t go there for the gym, as the equipment it all broken and very old. I will not be staying there again, but Tenerife as an island is friendly helpful and very clean.More
PLEASE DO NOT BE PUT OFF BY BAD REVIEWS.
Me, my husband and two son's, 11 and 15 have just come back from a weeks holiday here. I was really nervous after reading such bad reviews. I really don't know what people want!!! We arrived to very friendly reception! Our room was 403B. Pool view. Lovely, big and Clean! The food was great. My husband loved all the different options. Me and the kids are more fussy but we had something to eat every day. Every meal had something for everyone no matter how fussy they are!!!! We used pool B. (Pool A looked lovely but a bit quiet for us with the kids). We saw it got cleaned Every day and the area itself was well looked after. The entertainment round pool B was great. Something 2/3 times a day. The entertainment team were brilliant. Only thing I could moan about would be better snacks. The pool bar had beer, pop and hot drinks. For other drinks you had to go to the main bar. 1 min walk which I had to go to and was no problem at all. The onsite shop sells most needed things and is well priced. Bar staff at main bar are great. Know what you drink after the 2nd or 3rd time of ordering. All staff including cleaners were really friendly and polite! Again the entertainment at night was really good. Michael Jackson, bird show and others or the entertainment team all very good. The entertainment team put a lot of effort in and the theme song will be stuck in your head for a few weeks (kou kou move) :-) I just wanted to reassure families with children to not be put off by all the really bad reviews. It's a great family hotel and kids and adults will love it. If my 15 year old son can anyone can!! Do not listen to negative people who complain about the silliest of things. More
