This beachside hotel comes with a duo of pools and restaurants, and it’s big on activities, too.
There are 2 lagoon pools and 2 restaurants – 1 does buffets, the other is a speciality grill. You’ve also got an A to Z of activities, while in the evening there’s entertainment in the theatre.
Location-wise, this hotel hits the right spot. It’s right on a sandy beach, and it’s just a few minutes’ walk from shops and bars in the centre of Costa Caleta.

What's going wrong?
This was our fifth visit in three years, so let's start with the good news, having enjoyed things in the past. Staff were as helpful as ever, in particular Carlos in the dining room - guy is an absolute treasure with a permanent smile on his face. Cleanliness of rooms is good and availability of wifi (an issue in past) is a recent bonus. All the animation team work very hard and are a delight to know, but see later for issues. Variety of food available should cater for practically all tastes and chef Brian went out of his way to find a particular dessert for my wife - it used to be a standard feature but has disappeared for some reason? With no luck, he bought her the equivalent ice lolly from the local supermarket, much to the envy of other guests. Hotel recognised our anniversary by upgrading to a room with hot tub and that was appreciated, even though the location meant that we saw no sun at all on the patio, so used tub only once. Sadly, there are issues which need to be considered. I cannot understand how a hotel with a decent star rating can charge for use of a room safe these days. Surely, this should be offered as a free facility as a reassurance to clients? See later. Several parts of the hotel are now showing their age and refurbishment is needed. The hand drier and hair drier in the gent's toilet (in fitness room) were not working for the whole of our 3 week stay - even a cursory check by staff would have revealed that and they could have been repaired. Several floor tiles were cracked and in need of repair. The organisational abilities of the animation team must be examined, since many of the activities started late, or with equipment missing, and staff need to be trained in a common knowledge of how some games are played. Different rules/structures used by different staff, causing confusion and disagreements. Scheduled for an hour, we found one game completed in 20 minutes having been played on a "sudden death" format for no good reason - odd? The board which advertises the various activities rarely coincides with the team's schedules - why? They all seem to have it on their phones - why isn't it identical on the board? Much of the equipment is either missing (compared to last year) or defective and Barcelo should address this by spending whatever is required to return to former standards. There used to be 3 archery bows - now only 2 and one of them broke, becoming unusable, at one point. Equally, one of the air rifles had broken sights. Minor drawback if you got that one. Dining room staff are hard worked and, at busy periods, more are needed to provide the service to be expected. Please, please Barcelo, buy some small milk jugs for the breakfast setting. Using the small orange juice glasses inevitably means that spillage occurs, making a mess on the small tables. Even a 2 star hotel would have jugs which allow safe pouring. Our regular maid left for a holiday when we had only a few days left to go and, one morning, we were sat outside when 2 cleaners started working, one after the other. Annoyingly, the patio door was closed and locked, with us outside, which was surprising. However, when we came back into the room, we were astounded to find that someone had helped themselves to one of my wife's sweets from the dresser top, actually leaving the used wrapper by the side of the wash basin - not even disposing of the evidence in a bin!!! Whilst it's a small, inexpensive issue, it left an uncomfortable feeling for the remainder of our stay, when considering what might be left out on display in the room during our absence. For this reason alone, a free safe should be supplied, removing any temptation and providing reassurance for guests. I feel that standards have been allowed to slip quite substantially and will happily go elsewhere in future, but my wife loves the activities, the general ambience and the company of many regulars who return in January every year, so it will probably be interesting to see how things change, if at all, between now and next year. Great shame really - it used to be top rate and departure of previous animation team seemed to signify an overall decline in what guests can expect.More
Great family hotel
My husband and I have stayed at this hotel several times before and having enjoyed it, decided to re visit it this year instead of going to Tenerife. We stayed for 3 weeks to avoid the cold weather at home in Scotland. On our arrival at the hotel we were allocated a room. This room was on the ground floor in block 3 and was very dark and , because it had a hedge in front of the decking was very claustraphobic. We could not get a change of room that night as the hotel was full. The next day we were offered a different room on the first floor in block 1, above the reception area toilets. It was much brighter and we believed we would get more sun on the balcony on this room and besides that, that was the only room they could offer us as, being there for 3 weeks was a problem. However, we did not realise from that early morning visit to that room, that the noise from the hand driers in the toilets below would reverberate upstairs and become annoying. Not only that but at night between 10.30 and 12.00 it seemed like they replaced the beer barrels on a hydraulic lift underneath our room for the bar, so the noise was quite loud until the early hours of the morning. we didn`t want to ask for another room again and move belongings yet again. Anyway we had been told there was a problem with a room rented for 3 weeks! We got used to the noise although we didn`t think the room should ever have been used as a renting room, more like it should have been a courtesy room for those on late departures. You would think that committing to stay in the hotel for 3 weeks the hotel would appreciate the business and upgrade our room. Other people had been upgraded for no reason for a week. The weather the first week was very cold and unseasonal and that was not the fault of the hotel. What I would say was there was no additional heating available through the air con or anywhere else in the hotel. Surely a hotel that caters for all year round customers should think about this. The animacion team were very friendly but the entertainment does not come anywhere near that of our past visits to the hotel when `Les MIs`, `Phantom of the Opera` and `Starlight Express`were some of the excellent shows presented .The singer Kenny Delaine was decidedly a case of love or hate! The Magician was very clever and a delight to watch. As were the female violinists. My husband found a piece of plastic in his stew one night and we were treated to a bottle of fizz (even tho we were all inclusive) and a letter of apology! The loyalty scheme the Barcelo operate applies only to those booking through the hotel website. What a shame for those from more remote places that rely on holiday companies to lay on packages and do not have the luxury of catching cheap economy airlines! This seems unfair! The Customer liason manager advised us to e mail her to tell us we were returning guests and she would see what they could do! Pretty poor when nowadays when all such information is on a computer at the touch of a button. I did succumb to a gastro bug for 24 hours. Nobody can say what caused it but I was aware that a lot of the guests were not washing their hands after the toilet. Perhaps those staff members that stand outside the dining room could offer a hand sanitising gel as well as checking for all inclusive bands or half board bands. These gels could also be a fixture on the outside of the dining room which may help with hygiene. We also saw a child take the spoon from the sprinkles for the ice cream dish and shove a spoonful in his mouth , and then return the spoon to the dish! There must be a better way! Who knows how many people were affected by a bug! There should also be far more toilets for such a large number of guests. There are really none in the area of the pool and for young and elderly this can be a problem. I would advise using your own toilet as much as you can. On the plus sides the hotel staff are generally very helpful and friendly. In our case we found Anna, Kate, Lara and Orlando all very willing to please and nothing was too much trouble. The wifi is great and we never had a problem with it. The tvs have British tv channels to keep up with soaps. The location is ideal for meandering to the harbour, shops, market, or using it as a base to explore the island. There are restaurants nearby should you tire of the hotel food. Aromas indian restaurant was great. Pieros nightclub has different entertainment every night should you not fancy the hotel show. We were allowed to keep our room on until 2pm on the day of our departure but not until 6 as requested, as the hotel was to be full for half term. 200 guests arriving with kids. Glad we were going home! Will we return? Maybe in a few years but not immediately. I just hope the standards do not slip any more in what used to be a fabulous hotel. It has been a bit of a disappointing break for us for a number of reasons. Hope you have a great time as so many do keep returning here..More
I have returned a day or two ago from this hotel. Travelled as a couple and first time to this hotel, I have to say the staff in all areas were extremely polite and helpful. The rooms were large comfortable and very clean, we booked all inclusive, I had read the reviews before travelling and was surprised at how picky some guests were. The food was variable, lots of choice from hot to cold, several guests complaining that the food could have been hotter, every night the chef cooked meat and fish in front of you and served it from the griddle, same with the breakfast eggs, and omelettes. The dining room was noisy but that was inevitable due to it being all selfservice., the staff in their were all very good. The entertainment was ok a bit hit and miss but overall entertaining, very impressed with the theatre area. The grounds were beautifully kept , and once out onto the promenade the walks were lovely, guests were taking pictures of the work they are doing on the beach with diggers etc moving sand, this work has to be done and once finished this promenade will be fantastic as will the beach, we walked every day as much as 4 to 5 miles, someone had put on trip advisor that you can walk to los Salinas to the Salt Museum which we did, thank you for that, and we caught the bus back, it took about an hour but only strolling, one criticism I was surprised about the pool towels , we have only been to hotels that supply as many changes of wet towels continuously here they charge so if you'd rather not pay take your own as some guests already had, found this a bit strange and very 70s/ but after having said that we shall return to this hotel as it was a lovely time of year to take a break, hope this review helps.More
