Hotel Barcelo Fuerteventura Thalasso Spa

This beachside hotel comes with a duo of pools and restaurants, and it’s big on activities, too.

There are 2 lagoon pools and 2 restaurants – 1 does buffets, the other is a speciality grill. You’ve also got an A to Z of activities, while in the evening there’s entertainment in the theatre.

Location-wise, this hotel hits the right spot. It’s right on a sandy beach, and it’s just a few minutes’ walk from shops and bars in the centre of Costa Caleta.

Few tweaks and it would be excellent !!!!

Arrived into airport luggage arrived slowly !!!! Coach journey to hotel was about 10 mins the rep gives you a checking in form to complete for each person which you hand in on your arrival, it makes checking in quicker however our room wasn't ready had to wait another hour which is a little annoying when on a Wednesday we know everyone checks out around 10am, when we finally got our room we were in block 1 but room was lovely and clean with sun beds on patio however it was always far to windy to sit on these but prob nice in warmer weather. Hotel its self and grounds were lovely although no where outside to sit outside and shelter from the wind which was a little annoying as on the really windy days and there were plenty we had to sit inside. Swimming pool area was lovely and plenty of loungers it's really spread out and I assume if you are sat near block 3 it's a fair walk to bar area for drinks we sat near the heated pool which was fine. The outside bar area has a all inclusive section where you can get drinks and food we never had the food but used this for drinks in the day. Restaurant was ok always found something to eat in my opinion and I am a little fussy there was far too much pork and veal, I am quite careful what I eat on holiday but the food all seemed ok, as we were all inclusive I found it a little annoying that every time we entered the restaurant we had to give our room number and then take the piece of paper back after we had finished. The main bar area got busy in peak times and whilst the entertainment was on the staff waited on everyone which they seemed to do very efficiently, the drinks variety was fine although I was a little disappointed that they had proper Smirnoff vodka but only local Bacardi the proper stuff would have been nice after all they are similar prices !!!!! I also thought all inclusive should be til midnight although saying that the entertainment finishes at 10.30pm and its like a mass clear out which I found odd as it doesn't start til 9.30pm so I think considering the entertainment area is massive they could put on a bit more to entertain guests. The wifi is ok in main reception area but weak in rooms unless you upgrade but I don't go on holiday to use phone iPad etc so not a problem for me but there were many people in these areas with their gadgets. Probably the best thing about the hotel was the staff mostly all hardworking and they do work long hours but all nice and friendly so keep up the good work. Weather here like I said was very windy but we enjoyed the holiday.More

Overall, very good hotel, nicely situated on the beach. Beds super comfy. Food good, but gets a bit samey after a week, as with all hotels. If only the weather had been good it would have been an excellent week.More

very good hotel

The hotel is very well located, i.e. handy for the shops and a nice stroll along the sea front. The hotel has plenty of sunbeds so no need to reserve them but some people still do, why. There is a good selection of food on offer for both breakfast and dinner, the salads are very nice with the selection of fish. We upgraded our room for which we got our own hot tub but unfortunately the weather was to cold to use it. Overhall a very nice hotelMore

Mixed Feelings

Hotel - the hotel was huge, someone made an earlier comment about it being souless which I have to agree with. The grounds are nicely kept and the pool clean but no atmosphere at all. We were in block 3 and sometimes it felt as if we had to walk miles to get back to our room especially if we had to go back for something forgotten. The room was lovely and big enough for 2 with lots of space and the bed comfortable as anything, balcony small but usable - if our downstairs neighbor had used their hot tub we would have treated to a floor show as you could see straight down and there was no screen between them and their neighbor. Walls thin - could near our neighbors argue and snore. Staff were efficient and work very hard and this is all I can say of them - they really do need more staff on the pool bar in windy weather and at night. Entertainment was an hour all up between 9.30pm and 10,30pm in theater like seats, wait staff do bring drinks but it is quicker to go to the bar if you don't get ignored by the bar staff who tend to serve who they like first (although people waiting could have had the manners to say this person was before me which never happened to me) One waiter accused me of having my own drink as i asked for a glass of ice with my wine. Drinks are very cheap and if you get one from the pool bar to take away you its 3 times the size of the in bar drink. Animation staff were fantastic and friendliest off all the staff - make sure you ask for a program on check in ( we were not given one) or you miss out if you are not at the pool to hear them say what is on where. Breakfast needs multi tasking to eat everything at same time warm - if you put bread in toaster near bacon/egg bar then go get butter from other bread bar and coffee then go back re feed bread into toaster (to actually toast it) then get bacon eggs whatever then go back to get toast its all good. Food was plentiful and very good. Location is fantastic especially if you are older or in wheelchair as everything is flat or ramps around. Back gate takes you to beach and front of hotel either go left or straight on and lots of restaurants and bars around. If you want a relaxing holiday and don;t intend to stay in for all meals I would recommend this hotel as it is close to everything. It is not a party hotel and is very quiet,we are 46 and among the youngest there apart from couples with young children. I would not go all inclusive as the only night entertainment is an hour show (which I really enjoyed but don't expect west end shows) the lunch what I saw other people eating did not look that good and the bar is so bright it really does lack atmosphere. We ate out everyday for lunch and dinner and did not spend more than 50 euros a day each which included wine and meals. We went out for dinner, came back for the show then went back out again once or twice but it was a quiet holiday I wanted. Don't believe the no reservation of sunbeds - it happens oh and no wifi in breakfast room or bar at all - hit and miss everywhere else but reception staff did show me a different way of getting it up.More

amazing animation team

Just returned from our first ever visit to Fuerteventura and the Barceló, the hotel is literally a fifteen minute drive from the airport so a big plus when you have just endured a 4 1/2 flight, first impressions of the hotel were favourable, it is a modern spacious hotel and as such was quite busy on our arrival however there was plenty of staff available and within 10 minutes of arrival we were on our way to our room. The room was a reasonable size with a separate wash area and separate bathroom/toilet for anyone who has stayed in a premier inn the room was very similar standard, twin queen beds small table and chairs, tv, fridge and plenty of wardrobe space, balcony with chairs and footrests. "Barceló" spot the glaring mistake here "no tea making facilities" so make sure you take your own kettle (shame on you Barceló ) this is a large hotel and 90% of the rooms have a lovely outlook over the pools or sea, unfortunately we fell into the 10% that didnt and ours over looked the rear of the centro commercial next door (Barceló these rooms should be cheaper) there is wifi in and around the reception and pools but not in our room, for us the room is for sleeping in and as such didn't make any real difference. We found the food to be plentiful and very tasty and never had any problem finding something nice to eat, the area of Caleta de fuste is beautiful and very wheelchair friendly, there are lots of places to eat and a few shops to browse, the beach is beautiful golden sand with coves and dunes within easy walking reach. The thing that made the Barceló stand out for us was the entertainment, every night in the events area there would be tribute bands, variety acts or the brilliant animations team, yes they do mime but their enthusiasm is incredible, performances such as Les Miserable, Lion king and Starlight Express were extremely entertaining and we would return just to see these guys. We found all the staff to be very helpful and polite, we didn't use the spa so cant comment, would we return? absolutely and we are looking forward to it.More
