Both go-getters and beach babes will love this hotel – it’s got a pair of pools for lounging by, and a bucket-load of things to do.
Sat in 30 acres of tropical gardens, the Sugar Beach Golf and Spa Resort is postcard-pretty. It’s right on a white-sand beach, and its two pools and two restaurants are pushed up against the sand.
Tennis, badminton and volleyball top the activities agenda. Plus there’s a whole host of watersports on offer, too. After dark, you’ve got the pick of a high energy disco or two laidback bars.

Good but could improve. ..
We are currently starting our 2nd week here, having chosen this following a stay at their sister hotel Long Beach last year. Unfortunately some of the negative comments I have read have not been ironed out so not sure how much feedback is actually acted upon. .. The buffet service on our first night was poor so did not give a great first impression. ..most dishes were lukewarm or cold and we had finished our food before our drinks even arrived- which were then wrong too! However, subsequent meals in Tides and Citronella have been excellent BUT booking the latter seems to be impossible. According to the guest services you can only book 48 hours ahead, yet when my husband tried to book Citronella for 2 days away, he was told it was fully booked...how could this be as it was only 8am and thus they had only just opened the booking for 48 hours away ? To add insult to injury a couple we met that evening told us that they had managed to book a number of restaurants for the duration of their trip AND where they had not, they just turned up and were given a table anyway- which we witnessed as they were sat next to us!!! Such inconsistency is beyond irritating and causes great resentment for those guests who try to do the right thing and book as instructed. The quiet pool is lovely with fab service although begs the question why it is not "adult only" like at Long Beach as it is impossible to keep children quiet. The poolside food service is unfortunately inferior to Long Beach too....limited choice and presented with cheap plastic cutlery and in plastic containers as opposed to Long Beach where the food arrives on trays with linen and proper knives and forks. However, the beach is stunning, the grounds immaculate and the staff polite and very helpful and thus is a very relaxing and pleasant place to stay. The rooms are dated though and our bathroom is pretty grotty in terms of having to clamber into a old and shabby looking bath to shower ( really? In a 5 *!!!), and paint peeling and I expected much more for the money we have paid. The evening entertainment is a bit hit and miss (again Long Beach was better and more consistent ) and the gym needs updating. So, would I come back? Maybe..BUT management needs to get a grip on it's reservation policy because for the price we have paid we expect to book to be able to book restaurants easily. More

Thank you for a memorable stay and the anniversary treatment and room decorations from Yashvin. They room service was excellent and well looked after. The view was excellent as well as the weather. Wi-fi is a good plus for us enjoying the photos and memories we made with our friends and family. More
Expected better for a 5 star
Having worked hard to be able to come and spend my money here I was left rather disappointed by the level of low service we received in various occasions. The hotel it self is very nice and looks a 5 star but at times I realised that it was more of a 4 star. We opted for half board basis as all inclusive was quite a lot more money and we are not really big drinkers!! I will come To this later in my review because it is a con if you go all inclusive. Our options for dinner were the buffet or a la carte in Citronellas Italian restaurant or the beach bar ( you get 900 RS approx £25 per head towards your bill). The buffet has a lot of options for food but the waiters need serious training. They ask if you have finished while my mouth was still full and knife and fork still in my hands. Then while talking to us about taking our drinks order a personal call arrived on the waiters mobile so she proceeded to answer it and left us standing like lemons. In two occasions the Sauvignon by the glass was not available as they finished the stock and when it was in stock landed on our table not very cold. In two occasions when something at the buffet was finished they never replaced it- time 8:45pm, buffet available till 10ish. Not a five star. Our last night we dined at Citronella Italian. We arrived, got seated straight away and again left us for a good 6-7 minutes with no even menus. When ordered drinks,I pointed out that my glass had lip stick and that’s why I moved it to the side of the table. Ordered 2 glasses of Sauvignon of which arrived warm because none left in the fridge. Head Waiter apologised and offered a better wine that is only sold by the bottle but he would compromise and open a bottle for just two glasses. As he arrived with a bottle it was probably a different one as it was already opened and not much left in the bottle, so my wife got a full glass and I got a quarter of a glass, waited and waited maybe he will be back and fill up. Well he didn’t so got his attention and mentioned I wanted a full glass, finally got it!! As soon as I mentioned service was poor we got all the attention in the world. Food was nice but spoilt by staff and very unprofessional delivery. Citronellas requires major training. Staff are very polite but at the end of the day this is not what you expect from a five star hotel. On the positive note our room maker Krishnen was exceptional, our room was spot on every day, in one occasion I wasn’t feeling great so he offered to go get me some meds, such a nice touch. The e bike guys at the pool are great. We went for a 6hr tour with Stephano with the electric mountain bikes, excellent experience and for only aprox £65 inc transfer and lunch. I’m disappointed to give you two stars but management needs to sort out the service problems as you claim you are a 5 star hotel. As I mentioned earlier don’t bother going all inclusive. When looking at the food menus and drinks a lot of it you still have to pay for. Eg. Glass of cheapest wine for half board aprox £8all inc pays £4. Pint of local Phoenix beer half board £12, all inc. £6. What is the point of paying all inclusive if you have to pay for local beer that much. A Phoenix pint in a local bar is charged at £2/£3. In my view the hotel needs a metre dee, someone with European experience to sort things out. At times can be excellent and at times poor. I really wanted to give you more stars but they are not deserved. Examples of good service please visit Lemuria Praslin 5 star in Seychelles. More

Came here on holiday with my wife for a much needed rest and was looking forward to a relaxing Spa break however the noise levels detract from the whole experience. There are weddings, corporate functions and music going on permanently. Currently sitting outside our bedroom here looking at the sunset through a group of corporate guests who have a function set up on the lawn in front of us. Totally miss sold through Virgin. This is not paradise at all rather a disgrace.More
On arrival we were made to feel very welcome and given drinks while they took our suitcases to room. As it was our honeymoon they gave us champagne in our room on first day and a meal at both restaurants on subsequent nights. Staff (other than one) were fantastic always helpful and polite. One staff member did steal my sunglasses whilst on his break but we were unable to prove this so no justice was dealt. Generally Sugar Beach was clean and tidy but many birds go in to the buffet area which although not the most hygienic situation can’t be easily stopped. Food in the two restaurants (Citronella and tides) was very nice but I wouldn’t say it is worthy of a 5 star. In the Mon Plasir is the buffet area, the food here was often lukewarm but was always very tasty (cooking for many 100’s of people isn’t easy I guess). The evening buffet is rotated between a dozen plus themes if your usual suspects in there. The beach was wonderful with all non motor activities being free. Snorkelling is done up the coast in a better location me and my wife done this a few times and it was a good experience but it being my first time snorkelling I’m unable to compare. If you go half board you have to pay for all drinks including water at all meals and by the pool side except for breakfast which is free water and juices etc. Food and drink on half board outside of meals is expensive at least double what you will pay in a fine pub/restaurant. If you do go half board I recommend you take bus to flic and flac village for about 85p or around $/€ and buy water, bear, soft drinks and snacking bits. Ok just to summarise I gave 4/5 because of lukewarm food at buffet and because of prices. I did not mark down because I was a victim of theft I will leave you to decide if hotel deserves to suffer from the actions of one staff member. More
