Rixos Sungate

First off, WOW! We had a brilliant time at this hotel. It offers a good mix of family entertainment, good choice of food and drinks and spread over a good sized area so one can escape the typical ‘all inclusive’ feel. Our two kids had an amazing time and for the price we will be happy to oblige them again! The waitresses in roller skates that serve drinks poolside are a brilliant touch. 🥂

We stayed at Sungate in Mid April 2019 at Easter Break. We are a family of 6, with 4 girls aged from 4-11. We booked through Jet2 Holidays (I have only positive things to say about Jet2 as well). This was our first time in Turkey but due to the advice of friends and the good value we decided to give it a go. The transfer from the airport was smooth and easy, we effectively had a private transfer as we were the only ones going to Sungate from our flight. It is bang on an hours journey from the airport. We checked in about 2am local time, it was quick and smooth, no issues at all...Everything was sitting waiting on us. We were offered to go for a snack in the buffet restaurant if we wished...We took this offer up and that was a nice touch after travelling from the UK. We stayed in a family suite on the 7th floor...It was massive, 2 separate rooms for the kids and adults which is nice for everyone on holiday...Drinks Minibar is included, but stay away from the snacks which are not included and are a bit pricey. The rooms were cleaned daily, everything was spotless, towels replaced etc...Overall the room was a 5/5 for us. Food- At Easter the majority of the restaurants are not open, we had to eat at the min buffet restaurant each night (except for 1 a la carte night)...The food is really fresh, plentiful and as the hotel is a bit quieter at Easter there no queues really at all...This was the same at breakfast, which again we had no complaints over the food. It isnt a gripe as such but we were not aware prior to going that so many of the restaurants and bars would be closed. Bars- gain not all of the bars were open but the ones that were open had brilliant staff, again very little waiting as hotel was no where capacity at Easter. From a UK point of view the drinks were 100%...The local beer is nice but is really the only one on offer...Other spirits were OK...I stuc to the beer and sometimes the prosecco which was nice... Kids Club- Again slight disappoint to arrive and find that the Rixy Kingdom was closed...We were not explained this prior to arrival but we didnt let it spoil the kids break...The indoor kids club was good and was really attended to by the hotel staff. The kids really liked it, they made friends with other kids from the UK which helped make their holiday. Rixos Sungate offer a free shuttle and entrance to The Land of Legends...This is an all day excursion and is superb...A brilliant bonus to guests of Sungate...Regular park entrance is about £60 so it was a great saving for us. We atually went twice in the week so that eased the issue of the Rixy Kingdom not being open. The hotel gym is superb, the equipment and trainers are excellent. Many people from the UK have mention the language barrier...We didnt really think that was a big issue...Almost all the staff can speak at least a little english and if they cant someone is always nearby who can... Yes there are a lot of Russians staying at the hotel but again I had no issue with any of the other guests attitude etc...Once at breakfast someone tried to bunk the queue in front of a kid but a quick word and it was all sorted... The property is massive, the beach is nice, the staff are excellent, the bars still gave enough choice for everything from a disco for rowdiness to the Piano Bar for quietness...That reminds me 1 night was super noisy until 3am ( some beach party thing for a conference at the hotel) it was a bit nuts but it was only 1 night... Going at Easter is a trade off from not as much being open but equally the hotel is much quieter so there are not many queues or any hassles getting served etc...I would guess in the summer with the size of the hotel that may be more of an issue... The other thing going at Easter time...It is t-shirt weather for anyone being used to the UK climate but it definitely wasnt proper sunbathing weather...It was cold enough that the pool was out of bounds... Check out was smooth Nurpul and Hande handled everything very efficiently and then we were on our way back to airport for our journey home :( Overall we had a fantastic stay, the kids really really enjoyed it and we thought everything in the hotel was 100%

Superb hotel. Food was delicious. Rooms are lovely. The staff are very helpful, especially Hasan Aktas, the Head Waiter. Shame about the greedy Russians who think it’s acceptable to pile high dessert bowls full of Turkish delight knowing full well they weren’t going to eat it all. We will definitely be coming back in September 2020
