Hermes Apartments

This is our fifth visit to Skiathos. We stayed at the Hermes beginning of September. Firstly its offputting because they take your luggage from you at the airport and it is transported by truck separately and it was delivered one hour after our arrival at the Hotel. Same on departure your luggage is taken separately to the airport. As it was it turned out ok but just a bit worrying. Our room was not good, the furniture was very dated, drawers tended to fall out of units, stained etc. Should have been skipped many years ago. There was also not enough storage space for our clothes. The kitchen was diabolical - there were two solid cooking rings that took forever to come on and that was only when you worked out how to put them on as the knobs were broken. There would not have been enough equipment if you had wanted to properly cook food, which we didnt. But there was very little and very basic, no sharp knife, chopping board etc. There were only two sockets in the kitchen which were located directly above the sink!! which meant you had to place the kettle precariously on the edge of the sink, and put the toaster on top of the freezer as there was no work surface. The freezer was noisy and had slight rust on it. Beds were ok but a bit narrow. Aircon was also very noisy and we had to pay for this. There were randon light fittings that had no actual lights attached and some light switches on the walls actually worked none of the lights. Tie backs for the curtains were hanging off the walls.Towels had at some point been white but were now grey and very hard. The furniture out on the balcony was sun damanged and the wicker broken. Table was ok and there is drying facility. You need to take care of your hotel key when out and about as it clearly states the hotel name and your room number. The pool is very clean, but unfortunately the sun beds (which are decent quality) are quite dirty. There is two sun brollies for the whole pool and both are broken. The tables around the bar area are shabby and the cushions burst. There is a double sun bed which is disgraceful - the cushions are totally burst and the wicker base is also burst and seems to accommodate cats! On the plus side the room was kept very clean and towels and sheets changed regularly. Safe in the room was free. There is a supermarked at the bottom of the drive which is handy but slightly expensive. The hotel is well located for the lovely beaches, buses and numerous lovely restaurants. Would I stay here again, definitely not, as this was not just end of season wear and tear most of this looks like years of neglect and never upgrading. You can definitely get better accommodation for your money. Skiathos is a beautiful place with lovely beaches and numerous restaurants, and a wonderful open air cinema. I would definitely recommend the resort. This hotel would be excellent if they would just spend some money and also time doing basic repair jobs. Greeks think its ok to say oh its rustic greek charm, well its not, its laziness on the part of the owners and reluctance to spend money upgrading basic items. Stayed for one week and can say it’s the most welcome we have ever felt on a holiday. The staff were amazing and the rooms clean and perfect for our needs. What makes this place stand out is the food served at their Gusto restaurant, it was amazing. Would thoroughly recommend. The hotel is placed nicely with a small supermarket practically next door and with easy access of three brilliant coves. Take the bus to Skiathos town and find the most picture perfect Greek town with something for everybody without being spoiled in any way. It was our first time to Skiathos but we are already looking for our next date to go. Much more personal and accessible than the larger kefalonia.
