    This hotel takes the opinion that bigger is better. Its grounds cover an area the size of 12 football pitches and fit in three pools including an adults-only number, a spa and splash park for little ones.

    Kids will be in their element at this hotel. There are loads of sports to try. Then there’s the kids’ club with its bouncy castle, mini climbing wall, crazy golf and its own child-friendly eatery.

    I have made several visits to Pestana Hotels on the Algarve in the past 5 years making my reservations directly with the hotel group and on several occasions have had to complain. Up to last week I have had two reservations pending- Pestana Blue Alvor (April Stay) and Pestana Alvor Praia (Sept Stay). For Pestana Blue Alvor I had free cancellation upto 18 March (in fact Pestana website stated cancellation upto 15 April). Due to Covid 19 on 18 March I followed the directions to cancel on line, however website stated it couldnt be cancelled. I sent a contact request through the Website, but heard nothing in 48 hrs. Although I could have amended my flights to a date later in the year, intending to avoid the hotel extortionate cancellations fees I decided the best way forward was not to cancel my travel plans. Days later Pestana emailed me they were going to transfer my all inclusive booking to Alvor Praia (where bars/restaurants,pool and spa would be closed -food and drink would be a carry out service). I decided to check what flight alternatives existed for a later date (but with a break coming in September my options were limited). If Pestana website had allowed my earlier request to cancel there would have been more options. I was in the process of contacted the hotel to ask for recompense due to website failure to allow my earlier request to cancel when I received another Pestana email to say my reservation had been cancelled due to State of emergency. This would have been fine if they had of allowed my cancellation earlier when I had leeway to change my flights , but was now too late. I contacted Pestana for recompense which they refused. I have now cancelled my Sept stay with Pestana and I am seeking advice on the way forward

    I have read the reviews but we went anyway, and had the family time of our life. Bad points Grounds have evident growing pains, because we went late in season the pools was not that warm actualĺy the sea was warmer so we went to the lovely beach, reception not great help on trying to book excursions but we found great tour shop 10 minutes away and finally no coffee machine in room. But There was freebies in the fridge of our room, food was overall great and have to say loved the local vendors in the restaurant showing off local culture as that's what we love. If I wanted a english breakfast I would stay home. Entertainers great although I do think KIDS CLUB NEED DIFFERANT ENTERTAINERS. Accommodation beautiful and for me the ninjas was the heroes (house keeping) room was always clean turn down service and you could tell they where working round the clock to keep the resort clean. If I could say three thing I know its end of season but the show must go on as things was not kept to schedule and I hate not going to schedule. If the adults are allowed a heated pool then the kids should at least have a way to warm up in the lower season And for god sake put coffee machines in the room, or atleast invest in better on resort

    Arrived to be told check in wasn’t till 3 which was fine but when still wasn’t ready at 3.30 wasn’t good and were took to an alternative room Room really nice and modern although being by basket ball courts got woke up a couple of times at 7.30 by a bloke training and had constant sound of ball bouncing. Around hotel nice n clean although walked past adult pool three days in a row to having what looked like some tissue or paper on bottom of pool and it wasn’t removed at all. Previous reviews had mentioned the cutlery situation and a few days I ate ice cream off a dinner plate with a fork. The waiters at tables very friendly and hard working. Food was average strange no chips but some may see this as a good thing. Was my husbands birthday whilst there and had the lovely surprise of a cake been delivered to our room with candles. I booked for him to have a massage at the spa. The spa said could we be 15 mins early which we were but no one in reception to greet us and no chairs to sit down either. A guy was sat behind a curtain chatting to someone on his mobile phone. We stood for twenty minutes till a lady came location okay bit quiet. Had a free shuttle to local shopping area but it was awful quite run down. We went to a couple of other local villages by taxi which were much nicer Noghts were quite cold. People were walking round in jumpers and coats but was a nice break. Magic act was brilliant wouldn’t stay here again but cheap n cheerful week away
    Extremely poor customer Service

    Following a previous post regarding this hotel... we stayed as a family of 4 in July... our card was debuted twice & after endless emails and calls .. Pestana group have yet to refund almost €2200.00 !!!! We were left with no option but to see legal advise and pursue which incurs more expense. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE from a hotel group this size ... My advise to anyone using this hotel... PAY CASH

    Attractively laid out complex with small blocks. Comfortable modern rooms all with balconies and amenities including fridge, safe, hairdrier, large TV. Rooms were sometimes serviced late in day perhaps due to lack of staff. Large buffet restaurant catering for all tastes with two free bookable speciality restaurants. Complimentary drinks OK considering mostly local with well prepared cocktails. Lovely swimming pools which although unheated were warmed enough by afternoon with hot sun. Lovely for families. Transfer about 1 hour from Faro but would have been quicker if transport had used motorway (toll road). Very small on site shop. Spa.
