Sport Hotel Royer

If you love to ski, will put up with Austrian music blaring from all the pist restaurants, but enjoy Austrian alpine quality, then I advise both Schladming and the Sporthotel Royer. Family owned, a large, maze like hotel filled with various dining rooms, cozy bars, and real Austrian hospitality. From their efficient and friendly booking (Daniela), through check in, you'll find the rooms cozy, large, well equipt and well cleaned. The food is good to very good, and extremely accommodating if you wish to eat something off menu. Max (a young, intelligent and very eager-to-please waitor, and Doris (a lovely, 40'ish woman who is always smiling and helpful) made breakfasts and dinner so pleasant. But, this hotel is just chuck full of activities: old bowling, squash, gym, table tennis, indoor & outdoor tennis, tanning, and truly lovely sauna & steam area. They have a huge Kommunal swimming hall (there will be kids having fun!) that has it all - inclusive 5 water jets for massages that are amazing. Those water jets are worth the trip alone! Schladming hosts World Championships in alpine skiing periodically, so you can be sure that every level of ski is accommodated - while basically 'red' level. The town is small but geared for ski tourism. I like coming end of season (March) where it's not crazy busy and one can enjoy both winter snow storms and spring skiing. Do it. And do the Royer. Say hello to Richard & the gang from 'Brian from Copenhagen,' and enjoy. It's lovely, well appointed, traditional Austrian!

A party of 6 adults spent the last week of February skiing in Schladming. This hotel is located between 5-10 minutes walk of the Planai gondola so worthwhile booking a ski locker at/near the lift. The hotel has a large bar area, plenty of seating, two restaurants, spa etc and has very large, comfortable rooms. In is well run, clean, friendly and helpful staff and the food offering is excellent. During our week we had two gala dinners with a huge range of buffet food, plus we had one Tartare Rustica (fondue) in the a la carte restaurant which is included in the the dinner price if you stay for a week. In summary, this is an excellent choice of hotel - deserves at least the 4* rating.

In February we had a great stay at the Sporthotel Royer - the day started with a great breakfast, a wide range of bread, sausages, muesli, cake and croissants, yoghurt, pancakes, different kinds of fruit and vegetable juices, sparkling wine and freshly made eggs and so on. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Then we took the skiing bus and started our great day. Tired from skiing we relaxed in the spa area or went swimming in the big pool with slides for the children and tracks for swimmers. You can also enjoy a very relaxing massage. In the evening we enjoyed a great menu consisting of 4 courses (you could choose from fish, meat and vegetarian dishes) and on Tuesday a wonderful and amazing candlelight - dinner was offered. We really enjoyed our stay and can recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to experience Austrian cuisine and hospitality.
